Off to DD & DS friends party this morning on my only day of rest 😩 and it just made me think who in their right mind has a kids party at this time?

Their having chips & nuggets and pizza at 11:30!!

Is this the norm or am I just not a morning person?

The party venues around me do two slots - 10:30-1:30, or 2-5pm

I much prefer the earlier one as it is a normal time for the kids to eat, and aren’t too hyped up still by bedtime

The 2-5pm slot means they have a mid afternoon snack which means they won’t eat supper but are really hungry by bedtime, and usually still bouncing off the walls towards bath time

If it’s a drop and go party I’d rather the morning, I can do anything I’d need to do and then chill in the afternoon.

TheOpenRoad · 05/12/2021 09:50

Totally normal. 10.30 really isn't early, especially as most kids will have been up for many hours already. On the plus you'll be done by lunch time. Much prefer morning parties.

Everyone? That’s a very normal time for a party.

Bunnycat101 · 05/12/2021 09:51

Most seem to be an afternoon. So many people have activities on a Saturday morning that time seems to be avoided. I’d quite like a Sunday morning party tbh- means there is a bit more time free to chill for the rest of the day especially this time of year when it’s dark early.

Bluntness100 · 05/12/2021 09:52

I think this is a great idea, gets it over and done with.

minipie · 05/12/2021 09:54

Are you really not awake by then anyway? If not, I envy you your late sleeping/quiet children.

TheSpiral · 05/12/2021 09:58

Sounds normal to me. I always preferred an earlier party, then you have the afternoon free. Kids were always up anyway.

MushMonster · 05/12/2021 09:59

Well it is better than 9:30!
I can do 10:30 on a Sunday, but 9:30 is too much for me! I would need 3 coffees!
I am still in bed LOL. December is not my favourite month to get out of bed.

NellieBertram · 05/12/2021 10:01

Venues are only going to be able to do a max of 3 slots a day though, right?
10.30-12.30, 1-3, 3.30-5.30 maybe.
Not everyone will be able to book the same slot.

Whatwouldscullydo · 05/12/2021 10:01

Sounds fine to me. Means the food is pver a more sensible time . Closer to lunch than say at 3. Theb you can make sure your kids have a proper tea and an early night as its a school tomorrow.

Amd it doesn't take it the whole day u can still go shopping or whatever in the afternoon. Much prefer it to any other time tbh

Fet2021duejuly2022 · 05/12/2021 10:02

Urgh I dread children’s birthday parties. Mines still too young thankfully

metalkprettyoneday · 05/12/2021 10:03

In my experience it’s usually 10.30 or 2pm . If you hear about another kid from the same group doing the 2pm you have to do the morning. Sometimes my daughter will go to two in one day with a break for lunch . I see it as nice child free time .

Knifeandfawkes · 05/12/2021 10:04

Totally normal and preferred by me. Would rather get it out of the way and be able to go do something than have it in the middle of the day disrupting plans.

LemonDrizzles · 05/12/2021 10:04

That is a normal time

cultkid · 05/12/2021 10:06

We went to one at 10 and I was so pleased because it didn't rob my whole day

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 05/12/2021 10:08

DD was invited to a 9am Sunday morning party when she was tiny. I politely declined.

Equally late evening parties are a pain for young children. DS went to a laser tag party when he was 5. It started at 6pm and by 7pm he was asking to go home and go to bed! Finish time was 8pm so it would've been 8.30 by the time he was bathed and in bed. Sweaty party!

rrhuth · 05/12/2021 10:08

I think it is a great time, they have the party and you still have the rest of the day to do family things.

The worst is a party at 3pm because you can't do anything much with the day and the kids are over-excited all morning!

shouldistop · 05/12/2021 10:09

Normal. I'd rather that then have the afternoon to spend as a family.
If they have a younger sibling they could be working around nap time too.

shouldistop · 05/12/2021 10:10

If you have 2 small kids, how would you be having a day of rest anyway. Am I missing a trick here Grin

mnahmnah · 05/12/2021 10:10

We went to a trampolining party at 9.00am a couple of weeks ago! Never had that before. I assumed it was cost-cutting to avoid doing a lunch, but no - hot dogs etc at 10.00!

BendingSpoons · 05/12/2021 10:10

I love early parties. We are up anyway. The children manage better going out at 9.30 and having fun, then having a quieter afternoon. Saturday lunch is usually fish fingers at 11.30 in our house! We eat mega early to fit in with DS nap.

Mumoblue · 05/12/2021 10:11

It’s fairly normal to have a kids party in the morning I think. I’d be pissed off it was starting at like 7am but 10:30 isn’t really that early.

clary · 05/12/2021 10:11

I used to love a morning party - no cutting into nap time (if 2-3yos), DC are all awake and keen (unlike at, say, 4pm) and the food is at a reasonable mealtime (ie lunch) rather than some mysterious 3.30pm meal when they have had lunch and aren't hungry yet.

Even if you are the host, it is all done and dusted and cleared away by 1pm - result.

Panacotta · 05/12/2021 10:11

Nightmare.
