Off to DD & DS friends party this morning on my only day of rest 😩 and it just made me think who in their right mind has a kids party at this time?

Their having chips & nuggets and pizza at 11:30!!

Is this the norm or am I just not a morning person?

Um loads of people. The vast majority of parties ds went to in nursery and reception started at this kind of time and then they had lunch after. Don't see anything odd about this at all.

FlowerTink · 05/12/2021 10:13

I love a morning party, frees up the rest of the day

LUCCCY · 05/12/2021 10:13

'Morning person' Hmm 10:30 is nearly dinner time!

Teaandcakeordeath83 · 05/12/2021 10:13

I'd rather early parties. We only get one day together as a family due to weekend working so sodding 2-4 parties mean we can't organise days out because the party takes the middle of the day up. Out of the last 6 weekends we've lost 4 of them to parties.

AnnaSW1 · 05/12/2021 10:14

It seems normal to me too.

ThePoisonousMushroom · 05/12/2021 10:14

Sounds entirely normal to me. 10.30 surely isn’t that early? Most kids don’t lie in at weekends!

QuicklyNowThen · 05/12/2021 10:14

Might be the venue or entertainers are busy ds bday party soon could only get an earlier slot as could not get any entertainment for after 12 everyone booked as near Xmas

Teaandcakeordeath83 · 05/12/2021 10:14

Oh. And my kids are all pathologically allergic to sleep. A lie in here is anything past 7am (rare).

I never understand the kids parties at 3-5! Dinner time for kids under 4 is around 5 so you have to rush home with tired kids for dinner/bath time.

I had my kids party at 10-11.30! Perfect time for us al can be home for lunch time!

How old are your kids? Mine are up from 6 every day anyway!

itsgettingwierd · 05/12/2021 10:15

At teenage age I worked in soft play centre. We had first party at 10am on a Sunday (10-12) and that involved food at 11.30am. No kid ever minded pizza and chips at that time!

We also had private parties from 6-8pm which would have meant a late night MN standard for some Sunday evening.

Again - no kid ever complained Grin

Summerfun54321 · 05/12/2021 10:15

My kids have already been up for hours at that time and it leaves the rest of the day free to do stuff. It’s a perfect time for a party IMO.

Baconking · 05/12/2021 10:15

I much prefer an early party otherwise you are waiting around all day to leave (is it time yet? on repeat) and can't go anywhere else in case you don't get back in time.

The worst is 2-4pm as they eat at 3 which is neither lunch or dinner

Sidneysussex · 05/12/2021 10:16

I like early parties. Gets it over with and gives the children time to calm down afterwards. Also who get a lie in when they have young children?

Benjispruce5 · 05/12/2021 10:17

Don’t you drop them off? Kids don’t care what time it is and you get two hours of free time.

HestersSamplerofCarrots · 05/12/2021 10:17

Normal

TheVanguardSix · 05/12/2021 10:18

So glad to be done with this aspect of raising kids!
My youngest is 7 and gets invited to maybe 2 parties a year:
This is due to a combination of several kids in the class from families who don't host birthday parties/celebrate birthdays for religious reasons and well, nobody inviting my DS, to be honest! It is what it is. He's absolutely fine with it.
My older two were (in their primary school days) social butterflies and every weekend was filled with birthdays. I don't miss it. And neither does my bank account.
And although a 10:30 start may be the norm, it ain't right! Grin

ViceLikeBlip · 05/12/2021 10:18

Most primary kids have lunch between 11.45-12.15 at school anyway 🤷‍♀️

Loads of benefits of morning parties- don't have to deal with an over-excited birthday child all day, more convenient for anyone who has a little one who needs a nap, leaves the rest of the day free. And far fewer tears at morning parties in my experience...

Usually they have food at the party!

Though I never fed my kids at 5.

EllieSattler · 05/12/2021 10:19

@Aroundtheworldin80moves

Whatever time they chose it won't suit everyone.

We have one in a couple of weeks, on a school night, 6.15-8.15pm. Youngest kids are 6.

I wouldn't go to that. DS would be utterly demonic by 8pm; getting him into bed at 9pm would ruin our whole week.
ClintBartonsWife · 05/12/2021 10:20

That is the standard kids party time round here Confused. I've been to loads pre Covid (whole class parties are VERY popular here) and can probably count on one hand the parties that are held in the afternoon.

Surely if you have kids young enough that need your supervision at a party you're awake long before then anyway?

wonkylegs · 05/12/2021 10:21

That's pretty normal we've got one at 9am next weekend which unfortunately means that due to parties, scout fairs and other kids stuff I won't be back in the house until 7pm and not one activity will be for me 😫

DeeperDownTheRabbitHole · 05/12/2021 10:23

Best time to have a party. 2+ hours to get things done and it doesn't impact the whole day waiting for the party. This wastes a precious day IMO. Love an early party.

Thinking2041 · 05/12/2021 10:23

For younger children mornings usually are much better.
Kids generally are better behaved/ less prone to melt downs in the mornings. By the afternoons they’re tired etc
For a child who wakes up at 6/7am waiting until 3.30 for their party is a long time to wait. Morning is better for managing excitement too

Plus most parents are easily out of bed by 7/8am anyway

ThePoisonousMushroom · 05/12/2021 10:23

My 8 year old went to a 10am party at Clip ‘n’ Climb last Sunday. It was perfect… up, breakfast, dressed and out the door. Home in time for the usual Sunday afternoon spellings/homework/bath/chill out ready for school.
