How much would you pay for these flowers?

AIBU to think that lovely as this bunch of flowers is, there is a certain price beyond which makes them a plain rip off? What would you have paid for this? First photo shows how it arrived from the florist - priced for 10 stems+ foliage. Jar not included. Would like to know what others think. Thank you!

HelloDulling
Central London florist? £45?
£45 including delivery? How much would you expect the delivery charge to be? Thanks!“

Jeez, glad we no longer live in London.
They’re just not worth receiving,

Your last line - savage but necessary. I will show it to the husband and children. Even Central London florists are not always such rip-offs, I can think of a couple of places that would do a much better version of this for half the price. They saw my husband coming - he doesn't look rich, it's the look of cluelessness and utter desperation - £55 from a roadside stall (ok, the road happens to be Gt Marlborough St - the one outside Liberty's). They're so stupidly expensive - forgot whatever natural beauty and poetry flowers represent - I'm starting to get intensely annoyed just looking at them. Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry

£55 ShockShockShock

PooWillyNameChange · 03/12/2021 21:12

That's outrageous but is it really worth bringing up with him? Maybe ask for specifics next time, or suggest a more reasonable online retailer in passing once this bunch has died? Maybe he's more robust than my DH but I wouldn't want to make him feel told off for trying to do a nice thing.

Mum2jenny · 03/12/2021 21:12

£25

IncompleteSenten · 03/12/2021 21:12

£55?!
Bloody hell Shock

He was ripped off. I am sorry but they are shite. I'd have thought a tenner, tops.

MiniCooperLover · 03/12/2021 21:13

Did they at least come delivered in the vase/jam jar? That's a lot of foliage for £5( 😱

IncompleteSenten · 03/12/2021 21:13

I agree with pp that saying anything will just make him feel bad though.

fmama · 03/12/2021 21:14

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I agree with all of you - it is an awful rip off. DH thought I was kicking up a fuss over nothing but genuinely, the sight of them is starting to enrage me. He bought it with the children's money (who were not there to choose). DC2 (10 yrs) is insisting on a refund. Shock Shock

NOPE! Just clear cellophane, twine and two sheets of thick paper. No ribbon even, although no amount of ribbon will help.

I don't think I could hand over £55 for any bouquet?! £40 would be my absolute max.

LucentBlade · 03/12/2021 21:18

Reminds me of the Harry Enfield , they saw them coming sketches.

He was ripped off.

Thursdaymiami · 03/12/2021 21:18

That sounds perfectly reasonable for the Liberty flower stall. I buy there often. And they are expensive because it’s liberties and Mayfair.

Sticking your nose up at a thoughtful gift because you would have paid less or done it differently it’s weirdly rude and ungracious.

Say thank you they’re beautiful, and get on with your weekend.

IncompleteSenten · 03/12/2021 21:18

There's not a small pack of drugs hidden in there is there? Disguised as plant food?
A flower cover for dodgy dealing and your husband had no clue and now you've got flowers sitting in coke water 😁😁

LosingTheWill2 · 03/12/2021 21:18

They look like long stem white roses, so I would imagine they would be quite expensive. Not £55 though!

IncompleteSenten · 03/12/2021 21:19

I'm joking btw, in case anyone thinks I'm being serious despite the smilie faces

It's not his first time. He needs the harsh but effective lesson of a Mumsnet AIBU. He was so hopeless, and I was so upset at him wasting money - I made him a list of local florists (who will all be very reasonable in terms of pricing) and the sort of flowers I like - but he lost that, and didn't want to research. He and both my DCs all need to learn that they must never pay this sort of money for something like this!

I think you’ve got bigger problems in your marriage than a bunch of flowers

godmum56 · 03/12/2021 21:22

are they anemones? If so they are well out of season which will put the price up

LizziesTwin · 03/12/2021 21:22

Isn’t that Wild at Heart? They are beautiful but too expensive for me.

Carpetsareforflying · 03/12/2021 21:22

FIFTY FIVE WHOLE GREAT BRITISH POUNDS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

get some rooting powder on the fuckers!

They'd better live forcuntinever for that price!

HelloDulling · 03/12/2021 21:22

That’s not a roadside flower stall, it’s a florist shop inside Liberty, with some flowers displayed outside the main door. One of the most expensive places to buy flowers in town. Wildly over-priced, but hardly a surprise.

Paperyfish · 03/12/2021 21:22

I worked at at florist in Marylebone a few years back ( 15 or so) anemones would have been about £1.50 a stem. You have 10 so £15.00, then foliage and wrap would be £5 more so £ 20.00. However, assume prices increased since then. Say £25? Am shocked at £55!

SplodgeWaddler · 03/12/2021 21:23

Max £6 in Lidl

Sexnotgender · 03/12/2021 21:23

£55😱 wow they saw him coming.

Your children definitely deserve a refund.
