How much would you pay for these flowers?

AIBU to think that lovely as this bunch of flowers is, there is a certain price beyond which makes them a plain rip off? What would you have paid for this? First photo shows how it arrived from the florist - priced for 10 stems+ foliage. Jar not included. Would like to know what others think. Thank you!

@fmama

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I agree with all of you - it is an awful rip off. DH thought I was kicking up a fuss over nothing but genuinely, the sight of them is starting to enrage me. He bought it with the children's money (who were not there to choose). DC2 (10 yrs) is insisting on a refund. Shock Shock
If he used your children a money to buy them they absolutely should get a refund. It's not their fault their dad is an idiot
Saz12 · 03/12/2021 21:35

To me, £55 on any bunch of flowers is painful! It’d have to be super-memorable for that price. I’d rather DH spent “our” money on something better. Sorry OP.

Thursdaymiami · 03/12/2021 21:36

@Livpool
Oh yes! Liberties in Mayfair. I imagine they have the same overheads as Liverpool suburbs! Probs the same rent and rates, I’ll let them know, they should probably move.

fmama · 03/12/2021 21:37
Anemones are quite expensive, the longer the stem the more expensive they are. They don't flower profusely and aren't in season right now so will have been imported. Add to that the location of the flower stall and I'm not particularly surprised by the price.

Do you have a garden? If so, I'd really recommend growing your own to pick next summer. I bought a mix of colours of the Mistral anemones from farmer gracy and they were lovely. www.farmergracy.co.uk/collections/anemone-bulbs-uk
I don't really have a garden but have a few planter boxes. I would love to grow these and will definitely try. Thanks for the tip! Flowers Flowers

Complain to the Florist OP, it’s not good enough. I sent some flowers to a friend that were bloody awful when she sent me a photo, so I complained and got a refund. Let’s face it the recipient is unlikely to complain if they’ve been sent some but I felt really cheesed off, so don’t hesitate [to complain about your kids being ripped off Flowers

Thursdaymiami · 03/12/2021 21:40

Anemones with long stems are v hard to grow. You would never get them like that unless you had professional growing conditions.
I do grow them, they’re sweet and short, but nothing like these.

Emilizz34 · 03/12/2021 21:41

They would cost about £25 on Interflora and £4.99 in Aldi or Lidl

GoodnightGrandma · 03/12/2021 21:41

I wouldn’t pay anything for it, it’s very green. I expect some colour and longevity for my money.

IslaInthesun · 03/12/2021 21:42

Whaaat? He spent the kid's money on them? Did he ask them? No word of a lie I would make him give them their money back.

They're full of fillers and pretty fugly

AppleBottomedJeans · 03/12/2021 21:42

Op you don't have a flower stall problem you have a thick as mince dh problem Grin

Benjispruce5 · 03/12/2021 21:42

£10- -£15

fmama · 03/12/2021 21:43

@Livpool

£55?!

Wow

I have seen something similar for £30 including delivery in a Liverpool suburb. If you like them though and are happy , that is all that matters.

But I don't think you are

I am happy with them and I don't need a massive bouquet - these are perfect as they are - as flowers. But I didn't think that he should have had to pay this much for them, or for him to think he has to accept these prices - he could have shopped around more or asked for recommendations. I am happy but I didn't want him to waste money. Scarlet & Violet sell bouquets 3x this size for £5 more - and they did many of the Vogue parties!

Op
You sound really hard work. Someone who always has to be right. Probably loves micromanaging. Always slightly disappointed that no one else could have done a good as job as you would have.
It’s just not very nice.

Benjispruce5 · 03/12/2021 21:45

I love Aldi flowers. I often buy a few bunches and re wrap in cellophane or tissue paper making them look high end for a gift.

GetTheFlockOutOfHere · 03/12/2021 21:45

@fmama

Worth no more than a tenner. As a few posters have said, I am glad I don't live in Central London, if an average bunch of flowers like that costs £30.

Thursdaymiami · 03/12/2021 21:46

And weirdly laughing at how incompetent you think your husband is on the Internet.
Bit uncouth

Anjo2011 · 03/12/2021 21:46

They look like an interflora kind of bunch, I bet there wasn’t much change out of 50 quid

ThinWomansBrain · 03/12/2021 21:46

@Thursdaymiami

That sounds perfectly reasonable for the Liberty flower stall. I buy there often. And they are expensive because it’s liberties and Mayfair.

Sticking your nose up at a thoughtful gift because you would have paid less or done it differently it’s weirdly rude and ungracious.

Say thank you they’re beautiful, and get on with your weekend.

The stall attached to Liberty - yes, expensive - but more Soho than Mayfair? It's the wrong side of Oxford Circus.
GetTheFlockOutOfHere · 03/12/2021 21:47

What? £55 not £30 like I thought. No fucking WAY.

Cryalot2 · 03/12/2021 21:48

They are beautiful and may last .
Good flowers can be expensive.

Just enjoy them.
Dd just bought some in tesco for less than £5 . But they are not the same and you can't really compare.

Thursdaymiami · 03/12/2021 21:48

@ThinWomansBrain
I consider regent st to straddle Mayfair and soho. So perhaps just the west end.
But it’s feet’s of difference.

fmama · 03/12/2021 21:49

@forinborin

OP, I like your bouquet. Understated, yes, and maybe not all filler choices work there well, but much classier than a big bunch of roses or whatever.

It is what it is now, you can only enjoy them. Accept the inevitable. I hope they last!

Thank you Flowers Flowers I will indeed, I shall enjoy every moment with them, as they start shooting up and into full bloom, when they start to shrivel and wither, and even revel in the glorious beauty and melancholy when it is faded. I really do like it, even as I know it is quite plain and austere (like me, personally). I just wished he didn't spend so much money!

CloudyStorms · 03/12/2021 21:51

I don't really know about flowers but they will probably look nicer when they open up a bit so I'll guess £35?

BiscuitLover3679 · 03/12/2021 21:52

£10-£15 but I wouldn't be surprised if you paid a lot more
