How much would you pay for these flowers?

AIBU to think that lovely as this bunch of flowers is, there is a certain price beyond which makes them a plain rip off? What would you have paid for this? First photo shows how it arrived from the florist - priced for 10 stems+ foliage. Jar not included. Would like to know what others think. Thank you!

Oh OP Sad They saw him coming didn't they. We've all made the odd mistake, I once paid £50 for a metal dragonfly. Don't be too hard on him, he tried to do a nice thing.

Riverlee · 03/12/2021 21:25

£55! I would have assumed around £25 from a florist, and £15 from a supermarket..

fmama · 03/12/2021 21:25

@Thursdaymiami

That sounds perfectly reasonable for the Liberty flower stall. I buy there often. And they are expensive because it’s liberties and Mayfair.

Sticking your nose up at a thoughtful gift because you would have paid less or done it differently it’s weirdly rude and ungracious.

Say thank you they’re beautiful, and get on with your weekend.

I don't think I stuck my nose at them, I am very fond of anemones, and I did say I like them very much and also that they're beautiful. I thanked DH and DC but I am also very upset that they spent so much money. It's simply too expensive for what it is. Or maybe IABU, and I have completely lost touch with how much a florist's time and a bouquet costs these days? Flowerbx (which is expensive enough) is £85 for 50 stems, including the lavish packaging and next day delivery. I had several Wild at Heart bouquets before - they were slightly more expensive £65-80 but they were MASSIVE - cannot get through the door sized bouquets. Not this little posy?

All the people who think they could buy anemones from Aldi in December does actually make me laugh

Indoctro · 03/12/2021 21:26

Anymore than £10 and i would be annoyed if it was me

fmama · 03/12/2021 21:26

@Thursdaymiami

I think you’ve got bigger problems in your marriage than a bunch of flowers
LTB? Wink

@fmama
So no one apart from us on here know you’re upset and you think they were too much money? They all think you’re super happy.

Well that’s okay mumsnet is here for the odd rant

BouncyMonk · 03/12/2021 21:28

£55 quid for a bunch of hedge. Bloody Nora!

fmama · 03/12/2021 21:28

@IncompleteSenten

There's not a small pack of drugs hidden in there is there? Disguised as plant food? A flower cover for dodgy dealing and your husband had no clue and now you've got flowers sitting in coke water 😁😁
If only! Grin Grin Grin So many things he could have bought for £55 inside the shop... the whole shop is wonderful. But he got these - I do love them, before anyone thinks I'm being ungrateful. But at what price?

ichundich · 03/12/2021 21:29

No more than £8.

3luckystars · 03/12/2021 21:29

€15

I love flowers but have started to hate bunches of them in the house now! I hate just watching them die and giving me another job of dumping them. I hate the smell and wondering where to put them. I hope I never get another bunch of flowers as long as I live. I love flowers outside though, growing.

They were a total rip off but let it go, a few drinks would cost about that and you have nothing at all left after that. Just enjoy them and ask him to never buy them again!!

Tinsellittis · 03/12/2021 21:30

I hope you haven’t paid a lot, they’re a bit nondescript.

MilduraS · 03/12/2021 21:30

Anemones are quite expensive, the longer the stem the more expensive they are. They don't flower profusely and aren't in season right now so will have been imported. Add to that the location of the flower stall and I'm not particularly surprised by the price.

Do you have a garden? If so, I'd really recommend growing your own to pick next summer. I bought a mix of colours of the Mistral anemones from farmer gracy and they were lovely. www.farmergracy.co.uk/collections/anemone-bulbs-uk

EishetChayil · 03/12/2021 21:30

£55!!!

forinborin · 03/12/2021 21:30

OP, I like your bouquet. Understated, yes, and maybe not all filler choices work there well, but much classier than a big bunch of roses or whatever.

It is what it is now, you can only enjoy them. Accept the inevitable. I hope they last!

Now there's value added! Off to order.

BritWifeInUSA · 03/12/2021 21:31

Places like that are the “oh shit! I forgot to get her something for her birthday!” places, hence the high prices. You go there when you’ve just realized you’re about to go home empty-handed on her birthday and you grab anything you can find and pay whatever it costs just before you jump in the Tube or bus. Planning gives better options and pricing.

Tee20x · 03/12/2021 21:31

Nah they look crap and I know nothing about flowers. Looks like the leftovers from a supermarket batch that no one wanted in my eyes.

Roystonv · 03/12/2021 21:31

Knowing where he got them from then I am not surprised; you are paying for the location/name/cachet but yes could have paid less if he had planned better/listened to you!

Xmasprrssiehelp · 03/12/2021 21:32

I just ordered a neighbour some flowers due to an awful accident that happened between us and my dog, which I feel terrible about.

These could be those flowers! I paid £30 for plus £7 next day delivery - which is a lot for us at the moment.

I complained to the the florist and have been fully refunded. I was so embarrassed when she sent the thank you text and panicked thinking she thought my apology wasn’t sincere, because the flowered where so shit.

I now don’t know what to do with the refund as she obvs doesn’t know I complained and haven’t actually spent money on her apology present..

you think liberties is a shop you go to when you think “oh shit I’ve got nothing, better get some flowers”
Hahaha

Get a bottle of wine.

ThinWomansBrain · 03/12/2021 21:34

I always like lots of foilage with flowers - I mostly go to the flower market at Columbia Road; a bunch of foilage inevitably costs about the same as the flowers.
A mixed boquet of mixed flowers and foilage will typically cost double the amount of buying them separately.

Livpool · 03/12/2021 21:34

£55?!

Wow

I have seen something similar for £30 including delivery in a Liverpool suburb. If you like them though and are happy , that is all that matters.

But I don't think you are
