AIBU to be so upset my child has to wear rainbow laces to play rugby?

Just as the title says.

My child came home today and says they have been given a set of rainbow laces for thier rugby boots for the game at the weekend. To show that they are inclusive.

I'm very very upset and angry that I am now being forced to confront this issue.

I have no objection to showing solidarity for gay and lesbian people. It is precisely for this reason I object to being strong armed into rainbow compliance by Stonewall who grow more homophobic by the day.

What can I do? Should I just get over it, conform and keep quiet? I don't want to make my child appear as though they 'hate the gays' when it's in fact the total opposite.

@EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn you said (with reference to the term "sexual racist") - "It’s a very new term - Stonewall coined it quite recently for lesbians who refuse to consider transwomen in their dating pool."

This piqued my interest so I did some research. In the interests of clarity and precision, what actually happened was this:

"Stonewall’s chief executive Nancy Kelley wrote to the editorial director of BBC News to denounce Lowbridge’s work in an apparent attempt to get her piece stopped.
In her email, Kelley suggested that the BBC article would end up being ‘transphobic’ because it represented trans women as ‘sexual predators’, which was a ‘central anti-trans argument’.
She further complained that the ‘highly toxic’ cotton ceiling issue was ‘analogous to issues like sexual racism’."

So 'sexual racism' was used by Stonewall's chief executive as an analogy, not as a straight descriptor of lesbians rejecting transwomen as sexual partners.

(Obvs still total rubbish - lesbianism appears to be the only sexual preference not permitted in these ultra-permissive times.)

Is it a school team? Politics should not be foisted on your child. I’m sure there is a law about that

I think you need to find out the reason for this, as the motivation could have been nothing to do with support for Stonewall. Perhaps contacting the school governors to let them know that supporting LGBT children and adults does not equate to Stonewall.

Yes, you’re absolutely right. And perhaps I should be phrasing it as ‘Stonewall’s CEO compared lesbianism to sexual racism.’
