AIBU?

Mcdonalds breakfast

Aibu that you can't beat a McDonald's breakfast? Especially after a 13 hour night shift when you snuggle in bed and it's frosty and cold outside on a winters morning.
I know they are terribly unhealthy but a sausage and egg mcmuffin.. Yum!!
Aibu?

McDonald’s breakfast is one of those things that really really splits MNers. It’s either food of the gods or disgusting, greasy crap and they’d rather have organic avo with feta and sourdough

I find it distinctly average….

@GetTheFlockOutOfHere

I see the majority - almost 7 out of 10 posters think YANBU *@jd88123* but it didn't take long for the snide, condescending, rude, obnoxious, demeaning comments (about McDonalds,) to come out from a few posters. Despite the fact their food is no more 'crap' or 'bad' or 'unhealthy' than most places. You never see Burger King, Nandos, KFC, Costa, Starbucks, or any other eateries getting the same flak.

It's the same with the rubbish. When a new Maccies is opening, people moan about how all the waste and rubbish will be strewn in laybys and on grass banks and in hedges etc. No-one ever moans like this about anywhere else.

The snobbery around Maccies is pathetic. Also, having known 5 different people who have worked there over the years, I can tell you that their health and hygiene standards are impeccable. Better than most. So bore off with the libellous snobbery.

Mumsnet never fails to deliver does it? When a thread pops up like this, a raft of people come on it looking down their nose at things deemed 'only for the common!' Wink

WTF? I don't like their pathetic excuse for "breakfast" - that's all.
I wouldn't even consider going to KFC, Nandos, Costa etc for breakfast.

Of all the Fast Food litter around here, Macdonalds is by far the most prevalent since you mention it.

Not liking their breakfasts isn't "libellous snobbery" - why do you need to be so sneering just because people have a different view - how about some respect for someone else's opinion?

Don't mind an occasional McDonald’s - but cannot stand their breakfasts.

@FaoinDrualus

The McDonalds breakfast menu here in Switzerland DOES NOT HAVE Sausage McMuffins OR Hash Browns. They have Pain au Chocolate and Croissants.
WHO would want to go to McDs for a Pain au Chocolate?! It's ridiculous!

But can you get BEER? I loved that about our German one - BEER with your Maccies ! (imagine the pearl clutching here!)

A salty sausage and egg McMuffin, hash brown dunked in barbecue sauce, Tropicana and a cappuccino on the side is ALL I CAN THINK ABOUT.

I think there’s some reverse snobbery going on here. The AIBU was ‘that you can't beat a McDonald's breakfast?’. Some people, including me, said they preferred the farm shop cafe (and Frankie and Benny’s)…that’s ok surely? Anyway, I used to work at McDonalds and I can vouch that the whole kitchen was stripped out every night, cleaned, sanitised and air dried. It was the most hygienic place I’ve ever worked at. But in my opinion, their hash browns are a bit hit or miss. I live next to a farm shop. Most of the time I have breakfast in my kitchen, but as a treat we go next door. I certainly haven’t got enough time on my hands to polish my tiara and diamond encrusted shoes to go there everyday though.

I’ve never had one. I last ate a McDonald’s years ago and i was so thirsty after it. Aftertaste was grim. Prefer a sausage bap with sausages from the butcher down the road. Kids aint keen on the breakfast but they enjoy nuggets.

@AdmiralCain I admire your desire to protect your random McDonald's manager friend from the scrutiny of random strangers. You don't mind if I retain the right to take your tired old anecdote about the indestructible McDonald's burger with a pinch of random salt, do you?

Full disclosure: It's a McDonald's quarterpounder with cheese for me. I have never had a McDonald's Egg McMuffin or any other McDonald's breakfast item. This is purely because there wasn't one near my office.

When feeling fragile in the morning I would fortify myself at a little artisan eaterie in South London with an L.A. Melt. It was stuffed with wafer thin turkey, crispy bacon and emmental in a toasted ciabatta. Delicious and I think it was the magical low-fat properties of the turkey that made me feel so much more human within 30 minutes.

@Electriq

Im gluten and dairy free... Mcdonalds don't cater for me 🤦🏽‍♀️ so YABU 😂

Where there's a will, there's a way. And once you've got the stuff in, there's no need to good trekking across town at stupid o'clock in the morning.

GF Hashbrowns.

GF muffin. Possibly the weakest link, but if you toast them, they do.

Bacon or GF sausages (take out of skin and squish down to cook as a patty).

Fried egg.

Non dairy cheese.

Bucket of black coffee.

All sorted.

If I'm honest, while I love a sausage and egg McMuffin with a hash brown, I'm a purist about their tea. Too strong even with loads of those slightly below par milk sachets.

Clearly I'm more of a tea snob than a food snob. My husband gets rather vexed by my hunt for fresh milk to make my hotel bedroom cup of tea as I really dislike the UHT cartons.

I'm in Italy and we have beer - I used to have it as part of my McMenu as a reward for braving McD's on a Saturday. Grin They've given up on the egg mcmuffins though - maybe I was the only person ordering them.

Why would someone who's never had a McDonald's open a thread about McDonald's breakfast. Just to say they've never had one?
I digress, you're all unreasonable for having the sausage mcmuffin when there's a bacon option. I sometimes get one as a post-gym treat on a weekend morning.

I've voted YABU because I had a Mcd's breakfast once and it was revolting, I now have a quarter pounder with cheese, at whatever hour of the day, if we're stopping there.

Exactly this. It's just pathetic snobbery.

The snobbery, hatred, and vitriol (from some) towards Maccies - and people who eat it - is often rife on these threads. Why even come on here if you hate Maccies and its food? Do you seriously think anyone gives a shit about your opinions? ... Just bore off eh? Go on, run along....... Wink
@AdmiralCain You might loathe all of the high street eateries, but it's a fact that McDonalds gets more hate and vitriol and snobbery overall, than any other similar eatery.
May I pour vitriol on your use of the nonsense word “eatery”?

Yanbu! My choice is usually bacon and egg, plus an extra hash brown (so 2 in total). I hate it when hash browns taste too oniony but theirs are delicious!

I went out to get sausage and egg McMuffin doublers yesterday whilst DH cooked some black pudding and potato scones to add to them. They were immense.

I'm the opposite! Always swap the vile stringy bacon out for the glorious sausage patty!

On the rare occasion I have one now, I swap the egg out of the muffin for extra sausage 😋

Leon are brilliant for breakfast

I used to work near one, and their pots with egg and nam hock were to die for.
Chunky toast dripping with butter as a side.

Also love the veggie breakfast with haloumi
