Do you remember Heather Mills?

I have been watching the Beatles documentary and got to thinking about her.

She was in the papers constantly in the 2000s, I remember her being painted as an absolute con artist witch. I googled a few articles about her from the time of the divorce. They are brutal in the misogynistic tone, she’s labelled as a slag, a goer, ex prostitute, you name it.

I don’t think papers write about women in such hash terms anymore. Maybe she was a bit of a twat, whoever married Saint Paul would have suffered at that time I think.

I suppose by AIBU is are the press less misogynistic.

I read a biography of Paul McCartney recently. Supposedly all the kids hated her, and she made all sorts of demands in terms of security and preferential treatment, when Paul had always tried to live and bring his kids up in a quite a normal, quiet way

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 28/11/2021 19:39

Bloomin' heck! Remember Heather Mills? I knew a lass that worked there. She made special cotten sheets for 'ospitals till the Egyptians cornered that market. She was right mythered when she lost t'job. Works in chip shop now.

Isthatthebestyoucando · 28/11/2021 19:39

@Oblomov21

Is Beatrice still trans?
She was just before the pandemic, I saw her perform at Zedel in London. Heather was there and she gave a mention to her Mum in the audience. I don't think she is now, there's an article from this month calling her Beatrice.
Skysblue · 28/11/2021 19:40

Yabu for thinking press coverage of women is less misogynistic

Classica · 28/11/2021 19:41

This is Fiona Shackleton after Heather had chucked the jug of water over her head. I can't imagine being that angry after a settlement of £20m.

(Not the point at all, but her hair looks so much better de-pouffed.)

I believe that she is running a vegan restuarant or café, had the misfortune to be unhappily divorced from Thumbs Up Sir Paul, and it's hardly her fault she lost a leg in an accident.

@EmKayEm

😂

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 28/11/2021 19:44

Well, from some of the posts here it seems we haven't moved on very far from Y2K.

Grapewrath · 28/11/2021 19:44

She was awful. Macca is awful too though.

IcelandicCabin · 28/11/2021 19:45

I recall her giving a press conference after the settlement and moaning about it and saying it meant her daughter had to fly economy.

That's about all I remember.

YouokHun · 28/11/2021 19:47

My DSis had a child in the same school and year as Ben (formally Beatrice). When the cameras were off, on a day to day level, HM was pretty horrible to people. Other parents were required to behave in a certain deferential way to her. But not PMcC, he always pleasant and a cheery hello and no silly behaviour. I know you can’t tell someone’s entire character from day to day small interactions but it is somewhat telling. It doesn’t make the attitude of the media OK but her attitude to [the little] people is what started to get her the bad press because once you’ve pissed enough people off they will, rightly or wrongly, pass things on to the media.

Aderyn21 · 28/11/2021 19:47

The press said a lot about her which was horribly misogynistic. PM has a lot of influence and iirc did very little in the way of public condemnation of it. I judged him for that because they had a baby and letting people speak in such a way about your child's mum, when you could maybe help put a stop to it, isn't a good thing to do.

TooBigForMyBoots · 28/11/2021 19:47

I've stayed at the place where they married. Its lovely. The press are no less misogynistic than they were then.

Aderyn21 · 28/11/2021 19:48

I don't think the press has improved, they are sometimes just less overt about their misogyny now

IcelandicCabin · 28/11/2021 19:48

www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/heather-mills-wins-24m-then-chucks-298425

It is in here. She may have meant it metaphorically though, but I certainly took it literally at the time.

ScribblingPixie · 28/11/2021 19:49

A friend met her at a party when she was still married to Paul, and apparently she said in conversation that the real musical talent lay on her side of the family. Jaws hit the floor.

julieca · 28/11/2021 19:50

The press were basically arguing she should get nothing from the divorce even though she was the resident parent bringing up their child. It worked. £20 million was a very low settlement.
Paul strikes me as a misogynist.

PickAChew · 28/11/2021 19:51

She has a vegan food brand, these days.

blubberyboo · 28/11/2021 19:51

We recently stayed at Castle Leslie where they married so that was the first time I’d thought of her in years..lovely place. I have no real opinion of her really as who knows of what was reported was half true. In them days we only had the tabloids no social media so had no first hand accounts

butterpuffed · 28/11/2021 19:52

@SilentPanic

She lied so much though, and Macca's kids worried about their dad when he was with her. Also, does anyone remember the mad interview she did on This Morning where she touted rats' milk as an alternative to cows' milk?!
I remember her ex husband [previous to Paul] said she lied so much that if she said it was raining he'd go and check Grin
Smorgasborb · 28/11/2021 19:53

I once had the misfortune of slightly injuring Sir Paul in his gentleman's area. He was lovely about it but she looked like she wanted to throttle me.

Interestingly enough she gave birth about 9 months later so I reckon I was partially responsible for jiggling things around as it were.
