What time do you lie in until?

What time do you think is an acceptable lie in time if you have young children? No plans or anything for the day but 11:30 is a bit of a piss take isn't it?
I would say 9 is a lie in, what do others think?

5am is my usual time to get up so anything after that is a lie in!

I think it depends on the age of the kids, how many of them there are and what time they get up. 1 4 year old who likes to sleep into 9 on a weekend themselves (like mine was) is very different from kids who have been up since 6!

Lottieskeeper · 28/11/2021 11:32

10 is the standard in our house. Me and DH each have a lie in day on the weekends.
It's the highlight of my week.

HarrisMcCoo · 28/11/2021 11:32

6am is a super long lie. 4yo youngest in household.

Spottybluepyjamas · 28/11/2021 11:32

We take it in turns at the weekend - on my day 'off' I normally get up at 11 once DH gets back from taking DC swimming (I'm always awake before this, but I usually get a coffee and go and read the papers in bed), and DH gets up at about 10 on his lie-in day. If we've got plans then we usually get up at about 9am

ThePants999 · 28/11/2021 11:33

If there are no plans and prior agreement, and both parents get this opportunity equally, any time is fine.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 28/11/2021 11:33

11.30 if you have young kids is a piss take, yes. Unless it's a one off. I presume it's your DP lying in until that time?

I'm an early riser so I'm never in bed past 8 on the weekends.

speakout · 28/11/2021 11:33

I dont enjoy a lie in- mornings are very precious to me. I am up at 6 to 6.30 every day.
I will go to an early yoga class, meditate, spend time giving myself a facial, a spa shower.
I adore that quiet time before everyone else is awake- it is a time for deep self nurture.

HarrisMcCoo · 28/11/2021 11:33

On the plus side, I get a lot achieved each day because I am up early. Lots done in daylight hours compared to others at this time of year.

MatildaIThink · 28/11/2021 11:33

I have a two year old and a five year old, so unless someone else is looking after them there is no concept of laying in, I will almost always be up by 07:00 and apart from once a month my husband will be up before me.

If someone else is looking after them (my mum or brother) then I might lay in until 08:00, but I am so used to waking up for seven that I struggle to sleep much past that and I see little point laying in bed awake.

mynameiscalypso · 28/11/2021 11:35

DH and I alternate at the weekends. He can get up at whatever time he wants when it's his turn to lie in (assuming we have no plans)

Kinsters · 28/11/2021 11:41

8:30am is as long as I like to lie in (unless I've had a disrupted night's sleep). Lucky that 2yo DD also likes a lie in so I'm often the one waking her up at 8:30am!

I would have to get up around 4.30am to get time to myself for a bit before they all wake up. Not happening!

That will change.
My youngest was a 4am wakener for many years.
She is 21 now and lives in her own flat- your time will come.

shouldistop · 28/11/2021 11:44

We don't really lie in unless one of us has had a late night out the night before which is rare just now. We just go to bed earlier if we're tired. Sometimes I'll have a cup of tea in bed while dh sorts the kids breakfast but I'll be up to join them by 7.30.

Penners99 · 28/11/2021 11:47

6am is a lie in for me

These threads always bring out the people who think there is some kind of moral failing in being a night owl.

LoveComesQuickly · 28/11/2021 11:48

It's all about compromise. 11.30 is late, but it would be ok if it that person really loves their lie ins and is willing to make it up to their partner by giving them an equivalent time off at some other point during the weekend.

Skyll · 28/11/2021 11:49

There’s not enough info to really say.

Booksandwine80 · 28/11/2021 11:49

@speakout

I have to say I admit our commitment-I have to peel myself from my bed every morning Blush wish I could be more productive!

Booksandwine80 · 28/11/2021 11:50

Admire your commitment that should say!

Jibberjabberhutt · 28/11/2021 11:51

8am is my lie in. Any later and I have this annoying sense of wasting the day.

🤞😂 hopefully you are right. Feels like an eternity at the moment but always get on with the day anyway. Loads to do each day.

Think it would be worse if I wasn't a natural early riser😬

Rosebud100 · 28/11/2021 11:52

We take it in turns to lie in until about 9am, we have 2 young children so any longer and it becomes a bit much! It is great having those couple of hours tho.
