wtf, i am in the north west, few hours back the wind picked up like nothing i have heard in years. I tis FIERCE!

Anyone else experiencing it?

It is extremely powerful and quite awe inspiring. The noise is seriously dark and creepy. Went outside and was almost taken off my feet. Trees bent double, howling, etc.

NE coast getting a hammering , we just discovered the patio doors leak on our new build so have wet towels all over

blacksax · 26/11/2021 23:48

Stansted airport is full of rather a lot of people who have ended up there instead of Manchester.

GetTheFlockOutOfHere · 26/11/2021 23:48

@S0RCHA

Central Scotland here too and it’s still wild! Roofs off houses in nearby village and trees blocking roads. Worst I’ve heard in a long time - won’t help my house is backed by woods 😰
Trees down here in The Peak District too, high winds and SNOW threatened for overnight/early tomorrow!!!
savagebaggagemaster · 26/11/2021 23:49

I'm in the Scottish Borders and the power has now gone out.
Like many others have said the noise is quite incredible.

evtheria · 26/11/2021 23:53

Also NW here and the wind was roaring earlier on. I hope people are able to stay safe, DP is out all night for work.
Remember some years back (7 or 8) there was a mad windy night? Can’t recall that being a red alert in Manchester, but a busload of us watched in horror as a man got swept off clean his feet, zoomed down Portland Street on his back and straight into a wall like something out of a ghost film. He did get up but Shock. And one of those heavy roadwork signs came flying into the top deck of the bus!

Lupinhere37 · 26/11/2021 23:54

Bristol Channel here; South Wales. The wind has suddenly become violent, although we are right on the water, so maybe catching it worse.
DB is NE coast; says it’s shocking there, with power on and off.
Stay safe everyone.

NotMyCat · 26/11/2021 23:55

Not my cat has decided he is staying here for the night. Sensible of him

I moved to the NW four days ago. I take it this isn't normal? Grin

Wind is 100% being a right unreasonable arsehole. NW here and not far from the coast/ river. The house sounds like it's going to blow away and feels like it is made of a sieve. There's the odd sporadic gust of wind that is so loud it sounds like a train hurtling past the house and I can't figure out why. Why no quieter wind trains then the loud demon train? We're all freezing cold and I've had to give in to DHs puppy eyes and put the heating on overnight despite the terror of the gas bill.

WorraLiberty · 27/11/2021 00:03

I live in the Southeast and so far unaffected but I've been watching with horror at some of the photos on FB my friends are putting up.

I feel for all of your. Strong winds and the damage they can do really scares me.

It's great to see so many of you haven't lost your sense of humour though. Parts of this thread have really made me laugh Grin

Hope you all stay safe and with as little damage to your homes as possible Thanks

Winniewonka · 27/11/2021 00:05

NW here and on high ground so we have sleet/snow as well as gale force winds. Like others have said any wheelie bin that can is making a mad dash to escape down the road. Power dipped earlier so as well as howling wind we had alarms going off for at least twenty minutes.

Er...

No, it's not Grin
I remember moving from Oxford area to near Bolton and how bloody cold I was!

Can anyone in Manchester advise re the airport ?
Has it closed ?
I see some mention of stanstead from a post

Supposed to be flying out tomorrow

PyongyangKipperbang · 27/11/2021 00:12

I am doing an online quiz on zoom and someone just said "Ah its not as bad as Storm Bawbag....we lost trampolines!" and I would have had no idea without this thread. I actually checked which site I was on :o:o

Normando91 · 27/11/2021 00:16

NE here. My bedrooms up in the loft and sounds like the roofs going to be ripped off any moment. Also live on top of a big hill and been hit like crazy with snow!!

Nope it’s definitely not closed but flights can’t land currently, it will be back to normal in a few hours don’t worry. Just expect a few delays tomorrow as it’s backing up now with loads of flights
Nat6999 · 27/11/2021 00:26

It is blowing like mad in Sheffield & has snowed, we are in the highest area of the city. Ds has a train trip booked on Monday night on the Caledonian sleeper & he is wondering if it will be cancelled.

QuestionableMouse · 27/11/2021 00:32

Got a lot worse here in the last half hour or so. The wind is howling and the rain/sleet is torrential. Something went bang outside a minute ago. Really hoping it wasn't something hitting the car 😣

MercedesBenz · 27/11/2021 00:34

@CharlotteRose90
Ohh thank u for the info
Been googling like mad but couldn’t see anything
Fingers crossed for a flight tomorrow but safety first
Thank you

Not sure now whether I posted this comment in this thread or the parallel one but the authorities do not close airports on the UK for high winds, it’s down to the crews assessment of conditions as to whether they can land or not….FWIW it does appear as the wind has changed direction and possibly reduced in strength that flights have started to land again at Manchester, so that has saves some disruption.

Possible problem for the AM is if crews and aircraft that have diverted tonight end up still out of position in the AM (the crew might go “out of hours” having diverted and so will be stuck wherever they’ve ended up, along with the aircraft and passengers) so there might be a little disruption to some flights in the AM, but hopefully not too widespread.

Good luck.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 27/11/2021 00:38

Something just went across the roof, sounded metallic.

ErrolTheDragon · 27/11/2021 00:42

I felt mean putting my 15yo dog out into the garden for his bedtime wee just now... he didn't seem bothered, did his usual amble around and drink from the pond.
I don't think it's as bad here (lancashire) as the north east, but it's a very noisy wind for sure.

hayley013 · 27/11/2021 00:43

We're north east and the wind is never been this bad

KloppsTeeth · 27/11/2021 00:44

Midlands here. Wind sounds dreadful. Heard someone yelling, looked out the window to see 3 blokes chasing a trampoline down the road.

Stay safe everyone.
