wtf, i am in the north west, few hours back the wind picked up like nothing i have heard in years. I tis FIERCE!

Anyone else experiencing it?

It is extremely powerful and quite awe inspiring. The noise is seriously dark and creepy. Went outside and was almost taken off my feet. Trees bent double, howling, etc.

@HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend

that's terrible

I hope you will be blocking their numbers

KurtWildesChristmasNamechange · 28/11/2021 09:56

The world is silent and frozen in my corner of West Yorkshire. I've surveyed the damage and it's taken the fences at the bottom of the garden, and a piece of fall pipe. I'll consider that lucky after some of the things I've been reading about damage!

@HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend I'm so. SO sorry you were treat like what. Absolute scum.

MajorNeville · 28/11/2021 11:00

@HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend
I once worked in a mobile network call centre, back in the days they were very new, we had a customer call saying they couldn't use their mobile, I explained their local mast was out of service due to high winds but as soon as the wind dropped and engineer would be up fixing it. They then ranted for over an hour, apparently their very urgent call was worthy of an engineer risking almost certain death, the fact he could've used the landline he was calling me on was an unreasonable ask. Some people are just beyond hope.

Sorry you've had a shitty weekend!

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 28/11/2021 11:22

[quote hidinginthegarden]@EmbarrassingHadrosaurus I use the phrase hoolie a lot. I thought it was mental levels of wind. Am I wrong? Does it mean snow?
I'm on the south coast. Was up in the night and the wind was really loud even here. Usually I love a good storm but was thinking of you all and felt quite scared about the impact!

You're right, it's wind. I hear it so infrequently now that I always like it.

I was attempting to reflect that other languages have many words for snow but in Scotland and the North of England, there are many fabulous words for wind and rain.

TheWeeDonkeyFella · 28/11/2021 14:46

@HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend That's terrible and I hope you've had to chance to rest. Will the scumbags who abused you get at least some sort of warning for unacceptable behaviour?

liveforsummer · 28/11/2021 15:19

Just driven past a rather sorry looking trampoline by the side of the road on the outskirts of the city. Houses are up a vey high banking (at the same height as the road bridge above) and have very tall fences, presumably for safety because of the drop, and on the other side they are a fair distance away with inner roads and large grass areas in between. I can't imagine where it's come from 😆. Both sides of the road are catchment for the school I work so likely belongs to one of our dc. Just baffled about how it's ended up there.

Primadonna1 · 28/11/2021 16:12

Was in the NE for weekend v unreasonable wind there - quite unacceptable 😄

Ddot · 28/11/2021 16:28

It's just not cricket

Still no electricity here 😕. We lost power on Friday night. The novelty of candles and the camping stove has worn off. Thank goodness we have a log burner so can keep one room warm at least. Off to my dad's today to take a shower and hoping power will be restored sometime today Confused

Oh noooo!! Ours came in yesterday late afternoon and that was my patience gone from Friday night so you must be totally fed up by now. Hope it is on now or soon

We get storms because we are an island. If you don't like the weather move to a mainland somewhere. Imagine being on a small island in the Orkneys or Shetland Isles. Then complain...

That isn't how weather works?

(Plus it's a LIGHT HEARTED thread.)

Oh sorry... are we not allowed to have a vent about the fact that we have suffered quite serious damage to property which will likely cost thousands to repair, elderly and vulnerable people going nearly three days without heating when it's freezing outside, not to mention the fact that some people have actually died in this storm? How awful that people might want to complain a little.

Maybe you might like to do a bit of research into your theory about storms only happening on islands as well.. Hmm
Ddot · 29/11/2021 17:46

Always one who misses the point 🤣

Tbf my friend lives in Shetland and it was nowhere near as bad as it was on the mainland. There are also hardly any trees so less damage when there is a storm
Ddot · 29/11/2021 21:59

Move to America no wind there

vodkaredbullgirl · 29/11/2021 23:54

@HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend

For all who replied, thank you, Unfortunately I’m immune to these type of people and I’m sorry for those who have experience similar. Gin

Luckily I have an excellent team around me.

Those who I mentioned were served with notice to seek possession this week, I’d like to believe they would take head of their actions but sadly I don’t believe they will, but hey ho, they are a minority not a majority.

Ddot · 01/12/2021 20:04
