wtf, i am in the north west, few hours back the wind picked up like nothing i have heard in years. I tis FIERCE!

Anyone else experiencing it?

It is extremely powerful and quite awe inspiring. The noise is seriously dark and creepy. Went outside and was almost taken off my feet. Trees bent double, howling, etc.

I'm in Cardiff. My bedroom is in the loft dormer. I'm almost expecting the flat roof to peal off. My food bin rattled of somewhere around 30 mins ago.
I don't think I will be getting back to sleep any time soon.

StubbleTurnips · 27/11/2021 04:28

YANBU. The wind is a fecker, been awake an hour. Kids and StubbleDog thankfully sleeping through but I know our bins have vanished in the wind. Stuck my head out to call StubbleCat and no luck, she will be bunkering down somewhere, she’s wise.

We are in the NW and it is so bloody loud.

Tattie nice pics, defo one for daily mail sad face that.

scarpa · 27/11/2021 04:29

@scarpa

It's died down a lot now in south Manchester - was absolutely wild before! Lights have been flickering all night and I'm a bit concerned that my car is parked round the corner under some very creaky trees...
Spoke too soon, it's back to shaking the house again. Apparently a lot of trees down locally. Some of the photos of the NE are awful - I hope everyone is safe.
evtheria · 27/11/2021 04:56

DP stuck on some hill back from Sheffield at the moment, long line of HGVs but some regular cars in there as well, hopefully those people can keep their heating on or have their winter kit in car.

StubbleTurnips · 27/11/2021 05:04

Dammit, it has woken the she devil DD1. She will now talk incessantly til 20:00h tonight… Storm Arwen, will no one think of my ears.

Looubylou · 27/11/2021 05:07

Well I fell asleep about 2am and partner got up for a wee at 4.20, so I'm awake for the day. Can't believe he's back to sleep, and son hasn't flackered. No better here in Northeast, everything is rattling. I feel so sorry for those thinking about travelling to work in an hour or 2. Thank goodness I changed to a Mon to Fri job. Take care nurses, emergency services, and anyone else who has no choice but to drive soon.

MeanderingGently · 27/11/2021 05:22

Oooh you lucky things. I'm in the East Midlands, we have a faint coating of slushy snow and it's a bit windy but not howling in the least.
I love a good howling wind and blizzard, it reminds me of the blizzard season when I lived in far northern Scandinavia. We had a screaming wind and blizzards every three days in the season, which runs from January to March. And 6ft deep snow...aah, it was soooo beautiful.....

Rowgtfc72 · 27/11/2021 05:29

Hail hitting the window woke me up at 4am.
Downstairs with a cuppa now.
We're east coast and the worst isn't due for another couple of hours. Every now and then the wind will get up and you can't hear the TV for the hail hitting the window. Lasts about 10 mins.
Hate the wind.

Pinkfairylights · 27/11/2021 05:35

Stay safe everyone x

RedToothBrush · 27/11/2021 05:35

Hope you haven't bought your Christmas Dinner earlier and got it in the freezer if you are in the North East.

Looks bad out there.

The wind and hail was making a racket against the windows at the back of the house. That never happens. It faces directly north and that part of the house is pretty sheltered.

the wind is being unreasonable
PigletJohn · 27/11/2021 05:36

South Coast here, and not too bad. Cold wind mostly around 20mph

We were expecting worse and the harbour ferry had announced it would not be operating for a couple of days.

Casamilano · 27/11/2021 05:46

Not looking forward to going out to work at 7am!! But those arms need a vaccine.
Keep safe everyone.

Looubylou · 27/11/2021 05:49

Whoever reduced weather warning back down to Amber for northeast, needs to come to my street.

polkadotpjs · 27/11/2021 05:51

Woken up with it here as it's howling again. I can see my outdoor (heavy thankfully) sofa cover is off but the soda hasn't moved. Lots of branches

lightisnotwhite · 27/11/2021 05:59

SE. The freezing wind did indeed become a gale. Sounded terrible last night but clearly we got away lightly with only a few hours of it.

Carrotte · 27/11/2021 06:00

@TattiePants

Been scrolling through Facebook and there is so much storm damage in the NE. Lots of people have lost their roofs and there are going to be lots of roads closed tomorrow.
Oh my!! That's horrendous!
PissedOffNeighbour22 · 27/11/2021 06:11

Yorkshire - it's kept me up all night due to the amount of debris flying around the garden, very heavy rain and high winds.
Dreading the clean up as there was already water getting into the house when I went to bed.

We haven't lived here long and we have some serious worries about the structure of the house so fingers crossed nothing has been made worse.

Compared to some of the stories and photos on here though, it sounds like we're getting off lightly.

MrsDThomas · 27/11/2021 06:12

Well since i posted on page 5 (22:12) its blowing a right storm. Been out, its dry, my guttering is still in place (needs fixing anyway)

Supposed to go to llandudno today for some shopping. I ain’t travelling on the A55 in this wind!

justasking111 · 27/11/2021 06:13

Dog on the bed not happy at all he hates wind so has special dispensation tonight

user1498572889 · 27/11/2021 06:23

I hope everyone made it safely through the night damage free. I am lucky just a bit wet and a bit windy here.

latedecember1963 · 27/11/2021 06:23

I've actually managed to sleep more than I expected to. The caravan is still shaking but the gusts of wind are slightly more spaced apart and less ferocious. I've sat out a lot of Anglesey storms down the years but this one was a humdinger.
I hope when you all draw your curtains this morning you aren't faced with too much damage and that those of you who need to travel stay safe.

Greyrootszerohoots · 27/11/2021 06:27

North wales and power out since 9pm last night. Expected back by 4pm. Always thought a power cut would be romantic but poorly toddler not digging it and refusing toys by candlelight, so we’re enduring a 90min YouTube download of bing the the bastard bunny. 90 bastard minutes! Though glad we had the foresight to make a back up.

Greyrootszerohoots · 27/11/2021 06:29

@MrsDThomas is the a55 open? There’s been quite a few road closures in north Wales, though maybe only till 9am. Hate that road in bad weather!

ColinRobinson · 27/11/2021 06:34

@Bingbong21

Nice and quiet in Dorset

Hope everyone stays safe and it isn't too rough.

Not any more!
MrsDThomas · 27/11/2021 06:35

Haven’t seen the A55 is closed to cars, probably the bridge could be closed to high sided vehicles.
