Compulsory Vaccine - What does it mean?

WheresYourIndicator · 21/11/2021 19:13

Sorry for posting in AIBU but I know most traffic is here.

So reading the latest news headlines, Austria and Germany are making vaccines compulsory.

Can someone explain what this actually means? What are the consequences if someone refuses to be vaccinated. I appreciate I may sound thick here so I apologise in advance.

I am double vaccinated myself and will be booking my booster for January but I strongly disagree with people being forced to take something they don't want. Surely it sets a precedent for the future. What will the government try to force next?
Scary times ahead!

Friend working in healthcare is worried he’ll lose his job because he doesn’t want to be vaccinated. He said he’s going to look for someone to get the vaccines for him. Am sure this will become a trend.

No one’s mentioned all the unvaccinated pregnant women with serious covid.
Anyone comfortable billing them for their treatment?

Mynameismargot · 21/11/2021 21:22

Some have huge anxieties about side effects, or they had a bad reaction to the first jab, they could have needle phobia, or just have general health anxiety that is stopping them getting it. Please do not lump these people in with the types that are outside schools spreading misinformation.

The end result is exactly the same though, no matter what reason you have for not getting vaccinated you still have a higher chance of ending up causing unneeded pressure on health services than those that went out and got vaccinated. Covid doesn't care about your health anxiety or your fear of needles or need to do 'more research'.

Obesity isn't always a lifestyle choice my neighbour was a size zero until she developed epilepsy and other illnesses in her early thirties now she is obese

My medication is off I'm technically obese I eat less than my size 8 sister but I'm twice her size due to my condition

The list goes on

You cannot compare that with someone wilfully refusing a vaccine

Cheerychirpy · 21/11/2021 21:23

Yup, I’d bill the pregnant unvaxxed people. They make up a large group of the ICU blockers.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 21/11/2021 21:24

What does ‘someone get the vaccines for him’ mean?

Someone will pretend they’re him?

Young unvaccinated people are still at lower risk of needing to go to hospital than some older vaccinated people.

That’s not to say that everyone shouldn’t get vaccinated. They should.

So people who are unable to get the jab should charged for their health care , and ostracised too? After all, they have the same impact. Same for the people who had the jab but did not make enough antibodies. The vaccine is one of many measures we can take to combat Covid. You can be unvaccinated, but pretty much be shielding too. How is someone who is shielding a threat?

So he will need to find another unvaccinated person, who doesn't mind being vaccinated, which begs the question 'why haven't they had it ?' or someone who is vaccinated who doesn't mind having another set of vaccines ? Good luck to him !

XenoBitch · 21/11/2021 21:28

ICU blocking is not a thing! If you are in ICU, you need the bed.
ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 21/11/2021 21:30

ICU blocking is a thing.

Why are ambulance struggling? There’s not that many ICU beds in the U.K.

He sounds like a model employee, full of integrity and compassion towards his patientsConfused

Deceitful isn’t a strong enough word.

It is not.... a patient in ICU needs the bed.

I heard rumours of this becoming a thing from a vaccinated muse I know. Paying a vaccinated person to have the vaccine. Where someone I’d desperate for something, in this case you keep their job, someone else will be willing to provide a service for money to give them what they need. That’s the world we live in.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 21/11/2021 21:33

I know they need a bed. But there aren’t always enough beds.

PurpleDaisies · 21/11/2021 21:33

ICU blocking is a thing.

Explain what you think this is.

XenoBitch · 21/11/2021 21:34

Same with lots of sectors. Mental health being a big one.
Coconutmeg · 21/11/2021 21:35

They’re going to have to do something.
Some people are getting pretty fed up of covering the work of people isolating for 10 days on full pay, because they’ve been in contact with someone with covid and chosen not to have the jab.
Services are struggling enough.

Cheerychirpy · 21/11/2021 21:35

If you are in ICU with Covid and haven’t had a vaccine when you have been offered one, you are blocking it! Other people who have taken every opportunity NOT to get severely ill from Covid might need that bed.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 21/11/2021 21:36

ICU blocking is when there are no ICU beds available. Even though they are needed. They are blocked by other ill patients.

XenoBitch · 21/11/2021 21:37

@Cheerychirpy

If you are in A&E after self harming, then you are taking up a bed for someone that needs it? That sounds awful? A nurse told me that to my face.
Cheerychirpy · 21/11/2021 21:37

You are 32 x more likely to get severely ill or die from Covid if you haven’t had the vaccine. You are therefore 32 x more likely to be taking up an icu bed if you are unvaxxed. If people can’t see how selfish not getting the vaccine is then god help us all!

frumpety · 21/11/2021 21:38

Why are ambulance struggling? There’s not that many hospital beds in the U.K

That is actually a more factual statement. The vast majority of people who are transported to A&E via ambulance do not need to be admitted to ICU, some don't even need to be admitted to a normal ward, once treated. If you are in a ICU bed, you really need to be in a ICU bed, the criteria for admission is a high.
