I ordered some Christmas presents from a well known online retailer.
It cost £150
The parcel was meant to be here last Monday and it didn't arrive.
They said it was lost and refunded me £150 (it's back in my bank ) so I re ordered the items.
Now the first parcel has turned up that I've been refunded for.
What would you do?
Do I tell them?
Or do I return the second order and get a refund and keep this order that's already been refunded
Or is that awful ?

If you can't afford £150 items, don't order £150 items.

If you're justifying the theft because someone else is better off than you, I hope a vulnerable person finds your card and spends the £100 you have left. Because that's how it works, right?

Nanny0gg · 21/11/2021 18:15

@Fidgetty

Their mistake of course you keep it and say nothing. I'm clearly not as virtuous as most posters though Grin

For me the headache of returning it would make me say nothing. I don't have time for extra errands - particularly not to line the pockets of some millionaire. Would even think twice about it.

Do you just help yourself in shops?

What's the difference?

Nanny0gg · 21/11/2021 18:16

@veredd

Maybe I am not as honest as you all here but I'm not exactly rolling in money so I'm going to return the second order for a refund and keep first
You're right.

You're not.

Nanny0gg · 21/11/2021 18:18

People do realise that Amazon sells stuff on behalf of small retailers, don't they?

muddyford · 21/11/2021 18:19

If the parcels are tracked, the sender will know what's been delivered. Ring them and explain what's happened.

girlmom21 · 21/11/2021 18:23

If a parcel has been marked as lost and refunded they won't continue to track it.
Amillionnc · 21/11/2021 18:23

You had £250 in your bank account, now you have only £100. If you’re not & to quote you “rolling in money” why spend over half your money on Christmas gifts?? Confused

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 21/11/2021 18:26

@veredd

It's a massive world wide company worth billions. I have about £100 in my bank I can't say I feel too guilty but I guess others are different
They will be worth millions because losses by shrinkage (theft, breakage, loss in the post etc) don’t come out of their profits - a percentage will be added to the price of everything they sell, to cover their costs - shrinkage, overheads etc - so it won’t be the billion pound company that pays, it will be Joe Public.

I think you should contact them - as other posters have said, they may just tell you to keep them anyway, @veredd.

SusieBob · 21/11/2021 18:29

@queenbei

Due to covid they now won't except it back after you've received it so if you did want to make some money you could consider selling the second lot you received in error. But as most have said definitely let them know and they won't ask for it back but so they can save it happening many more times. There seems to be an issue somewhere and it would be nice to let the company know so they can investigate it further.
Utter nonsense. Plenty of companies would want £150 of goods back.
DrSbaitso · 21/11/2021 18:31

This happened to me. I contacted them. They let me keep the second lot.

Myshitisreal · 21/11/2021 18:32

Next redunded me twice this summer for a jumpsuit in the amount of £70. I rang them up and after much debate, they told me to keep the extra money and thanked me for being so honest. I gave someone in need part of it and treated my husband and i with the rest.

Do what your conscience can live with.

Mine couldn't live with the deceptive option no matter how skint i was.

MalfunctioningRobot · 21/11/2021 18:38

This has happened to me twice. Once with Amazon, I told them and arranged with them 3 separate times to pick up the duplicate. No one ever arrived to pick it up so I kept it, thought I’d done enough by then for them to get it back if they were bothered about it 🤷‍♀️

I recently ordered a hoodie which didn’t turn up and Hermes told me had been lost. I told the company and they sent me a replacement. The original turned up a day later so I told them and sent the replacement one back to them. I would have felt too guilty to keep it.

girlmom21 · 21/11/2021 18:41

I think some people are missing the point. She doesn't just want to keep the first item, she wants to return the one she's actually paid for so she'll have the first item and 2 refunds, basically meaning the company have given her £150 and a free item.

Mylee · 21/11/2021 18:41

Why even ask on here when you had clearly made up your mind already?Confused

girlmom21 · 21/11/2021 18:41

Sorry meaning she'll have just got a free item, not £150 too Smile

You're right, I did miss that.

Oh OP, that really isn't on.

DrSbaitso · 21/11/2021 18:51

I was rereading trying to see what I'd missed!

Contact them, OP. Companies often give you some sort of gift as thanks for this sort of thing, and you can't put a price on your integrity.

ToroLittleBull · 21/11/2021 18:54

I'd keep it.

Will get flamed for admitting that but I would. And have in similar situations.

I don't know anyone that would send iback (if a multi million pound company) but I live in a low income area and obviously have dodgy family/mates Blush

Bimblybomeyelash · 21/11/2021 18:57

I once was sent double of what I ordered. I told the retailer and they said to keep it. It was all Christmassy stuff and stocking fillers, so I donated it all to a local charity that was compiling Christmas boxes for Local families. No way would I have returned a box for a refund. That would have been theft.

PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears · 21/11/2021 18:57

I'd phone them because a, it's the right thing to do, b, someone might get in to trouble like a courier, and c, there's a chance they'll let you keep it anyway.

TractorAndHeadphones · 21/11/2021 19:01

This is the same as if she hasn’t ordered a second one and the refunded one turned up a day later. Your point being?
whitehorsesdonotlie · 21/11/2021 19:01

Of course you should tell them!! It's stealing otherwise 🙄🙄

veredd · 21/11/2021 19:05

I will see if they contact me within 28 days and go from there

OP posts:
girlmom21 · 21/11/2021 19:07

@TractorAndHeadphones that it's a dick move

gofg · 21/11/2021 19:11

You need to tell them. You were keen enough to want a refund when you didn't get the goods in the first place, so do the right thing and let them know - otherwise you are stealing from them. I can't believe you even have to ask!
