I ordered some Christmas presents from a well known online retailer.
It cost £150
The parcel was meant to be here last Monday and it didn't arrive.
They said it was lost and refunded me £150 (it's back in my bank ) so I re ordered the items.
Now the first parcel has turned up that I've been refunded for.
What would you do?
Do I tell them?
Or do I return the second order and get a refund and keep this order that's already been refunded
Or is that awful ?

Their mistake of course you keep it and say nothing. I'm clearly not as virtuous as most posters though Grin

For me the headache of returning it would make me say nothing. I don't have time for extra errands - particularly not to line the pockets of some millionaire. Would even think twice about it.

NeverForgetYourDreams · 21/11/2021 16:45

@veredd

Both orders have now been delivered and I've had a refund for the first one and it's in my bank
Then you need to tell them so they can get the first delivery sent back. Otherwise it's theft
Ladyraven0483 · 21/11/2021 16:45

What @Fidgetty said, their hardly losing anything!

This happened to me with Debenhams several years ago.

I called them and explained, returned the 2nd order and they refunded it Confused. So I still ended up with a free order

veredd · 21/11/2021 16:48

Maybe I am not as honest as you all here but I'm not exactly rolling in money so I'm going to return the second order for a refund and keep first

That’s what I’d do too.
TurnUpTurnip · 21/11/2021 16:50

People say they tell you to keep it but they don’t always, I ordered from Tesco’s a home shopping delivery and after the driver left I realise loads of stuff wasn’t mine, didn’t notice at the time as my son was emptying them, when I realised I called Tesco’s (partly expecting to be told to keep them but I wanted to do the right thing) but they did come back and collect it all!

Coffeylikethedrink · 21/11/2021 16:50

If it’s a huge company like Amazon I’d frankly keep it. They have insurance and hardly lose anything
I would return it if it was a small or medium sized company

LizzieMacQueen · 21/11/2021 16:51

If you want to keep it without paying then ask them to pick up from yours at their expense and your convenience. Then your conscience will be clear.

GoodnightGrandma · 21/11/2021 16:53

I had two of the same book delivered from Amazon. Definitely didn’t pay twice. It’s their fault, not mine.

realife · 21/11/2021 16:54

Return the second order for a refund.

How lovely. 🙄

I wonder what the point of asking was. You were clearly going to do this all along.

EachandEveryone · 21/11/2021 16:56

If it’s Amazon they always tell you to keep it so I would just ring them

Why ask here then?
TokyoDreaming · 21/11/2021 16:57

I'd keep both or get the second one refunded but then I don't care about companies that earn millions of pounds a year.

Underthestairsbears · 21/11/2021 16:58

I have a huge Lego set from Amazon that I've had in my cupboard since this happened to me. It was a huge drama getting the refund and then subsequent parcel but we were so shocked to finally receive the original order a month later.
It's been say there for almost a year and I'm hoping to donate it to a children's charity this Christmas.
I'm always slightly worried that if I do that they'll ask for it back!

Terfydactyl · 21/11/2021 16:58

I've had the same thing from more than one retailer, I've mostly told them and been allowed to keep the extra. Once I said nothing because it just wasnt worth it, think a five quid item. Once I told them and they told me they would set up a collection (large item) but never did. I didnt remind them. And another time I told them and they said they would send a free shipping return label but I then had to schlep a fair distance with a large Hoover. They didnt send a label and I couldn't be arsed following up.

handmademitlove · 21/11/2021 17:00

When this happened to me I notified the company. they said they would arrange collection of the duplicate. After a reminder for them to collect it and a conversation with someone in store about how to resolve it where they had no idea(!) and six months passing, I decided it was mine to keep if they clearly couldn't organise to collect it....

Dagnabit · 21/11/2021 17:01

I would return one parcel for a refund too if it’s a massive company. I would be honest with a small business. I can’t claim the moral high ground but can live with myself Grin

veredd · 21/11/2021 17:06

It's a massive world wide company worth billions.
I have about £100 in my bank
I can't say I feel too guilty but I guess others are different

OP posts:
RaRaReba · 21/11/2021 17:10

You’ve struck lucky. Keep the first order, return the second and enjoy the windfall.

TractorAndHeadphones · 21/11/2021 17:10

If they provided good customer service I'd return the goods as they were prompt and honest otherwise I'd keep it.
But hey I have enough money who am I to judge someone else

If it's Amazon I'll definitely NOT be returning it Wink The amount of times they keep trying to charge me for irrelevant stuff

They won't refund you. Their courier will have updated them of the first delivery which you reported missing. There is no way you are getting 2 refunds out of them.
