To want to ‘cancel’ Paul Hollywood?!

I am just absolutely just so angry with Paul Hollywood. The way he as a man thinks he knows better then Prue. The way he ‘lords’ it over others. The bullying handshake. Just his tactics. I don’t like him on television. I don’t think a lot of people do. He flirts like a lech with the younger female competitors in GBBO.

I just don’t think people like him should be on our televisions anymore. He a bit of a Jim Davidson.

@StarShapedWindow

If I cancelled everyone on TV who annoyed me there’d be about 10 people left.
:-)
ChequerBoard · 21/11/2021 15:26

I can't stand PH either. I don't really watch GBBO anymore as a result.

Perhaps he could be sent off to live on a deserted island with Gregg Wallace and then I could watch both GBBO and MasterChef again?

Slashbackblazer · 21/11/2021 15:30

He probably beefs up the macho master baker vibe for the telly. I can't say I care for it but he did make a very good series about baking across Europe. The one about Belgium is particularly good. It's worth looking at on You Tube. Behind all the posturing in leathers, he knows his crust from his crumb as it were.

Gooseysgirl · 24/03/2022 07:09

He is a dick. I tolerated him while GBBO was still on BBC with Mary B, Mel and Sue. But I stopped watching when it left BBC.

Papayamya · 24/03/2022 07:11

I think mentioning him alongside Jim Davidson is harsh, unless he is in fact a massive racist who is very proud of his bigoted and disgusting views? I can see he's annoying and comes across as thinking he's all that, but wouldn't say it was the same league.

Valeriekat · 24/03/2022 07:55

@Jengnr

He does know more than Prue, doesn’t he? Wasn’t he a michelin starred pastry chef?
In 1969, she opened Leith's, her Michelin-starred restaurant in Notting Hill, It took about 1 second to find that information.
Streamingbannersofdawn · 24/03/2022 08:07

I cannot stand bake off. I stopped watching after about episode 3 of the very first series because of Paul Hollywood.

"Oh, your icing is slipping...(disapproving face)"

Yes, that's because both you and I know Paul that in a professional bakery this project would take three days at least not an afternoon!!! Grrrr

Cant stand him.

EnjoyingTheSilence · 24/03/2022 08:10

I like him!

ThinWomansBrain · 24/03/2022 08:11

FFS - get a grip - what t=do you mean my "cancel"?
the man exists - you'd prefer he was murdered in order that he didn't?
If you don't like him, don;t watch programs that he is in.

Has GBBOF started again, or are you having a randon rant?

veevee04 · 24/03/2022 08:13

I hate Phillip Schofield but I don't think he should be cancelled because I don't like him. Bit horrible to wish someone to lose their livelihood because we don't like them. Cancel culture has gone a bit too far.

Pyewhacket · 24/03/2022 08:18

I like Paul, he's the only reason I still watch it.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 24/03/2022 08:18

Celebrity version on at the moment, @ThinWomansBrain, in aid of Stand Up For Cancer. I rather enjoyed it the other night. Never watched Taskmaster, but on the strength of finding Alex Horne quite amusing on GBBO I'm now thinking maybe I should give Taskmaster a go.

SquirrelG · 24/03/2022 08:31

Oh do get over yourself! You can't "cancel" someone just because you don't like them. If you don't like him then don't watch. Honestly, this "cancelling" nonsense is pathetic.

butterpuffed · 24/03/2022 08:40

How do you cancel a person ? Maybe he could go on The Apprentice and Lord Sugar could tell him 'You're fired' . Would that do the trick Wink

MajorCarolDanvers · 24/03/2022 08:47

As I posted on the other cancel thread - leave cancelling to authoritarian regimes and dictators.

In a democracy if something is not your taste then don't watch or read.

Cancel the cancel culture.

lljkk · 24/03/2022 08:50

mmm... I dunno about women in general but definitely as an "older person" I am fussy about my calories tasting good. I would rather go hungry than waste my calories on mediocre quality or flavour. My dad is the same (in his 70s).

Whereas my teenagers just gobble things down because it's in front of them (boys). Dustbins. I was exactly the same when I was young -- hunger was a huge nagging thing and I wasn't very fussy about flavour. I was female then too.

Therefore for me, 'worth the calories' makes sense -- it's an age not sex thing.

ThinWomansBrain · 24/03/2022 08:54

thanks @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g

will seek it out - GBBOF is the only thing I watch on C4, so I never see trailers etc.
Alex Horne used to have a radio 4 program which I didn't like much - but can endure most things if cake is involved Grin

CrazyTimes123 · 24/03/2022 09:00

The sleazy affairs, the whole Ruby cringe episodes, the fighting over Summer’s horse buckets, the ‘ride back on the horse you rode in on’ - just no Envy

SnottyLottie · 24/03/2022 10:08

In regards to Noel being annoying, he really can be over the top. He needs to be partnered up with someone a little less quirky/OTT. You can see this with his partnership with Julian Barrett. The Mighty Boosh is amazing (I know it’s not to everyone’s taste of course) and part of its charm was Noel’s quirkiness irritating geeky, straight laced Julian. But when he did his own show (luxury comedy) it was all OTT and not very funny for it. He needs someone to rein him in. That’s why I think he suited working with dry, sarcastic humour of Sandi. Matt’s style is too zany and over the top and it’s just too much having two of them be like that.
