I think for me, it’s a restaurant called “Tattu”. They’re dotted all around the UK and was so excited to try it but the food was so average yet they charge £100+ for two people based on a starter and main HmmConfused. Everyone who I know has been there absolutely loved it so maybe it’s just DP & I!

What’s the most overrated restaurant you’ve been to?

Dishoom?

Rick Steins place in Padstow. I can cook fish better than that!

Nandos - really don't understand the hype!

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 19/11/2021 11:56

Northcote in Langho.. It wasn't shockingly bad or anything, just a massive gulf in quality between it and other Michelin starred places. Can't remember anything I ate, and only remember DH's Lancashire cheese ice cream not being very nice. I think I can remember at least one dish from all the other Michelin starred meals I've had.

Voord · 19/11/2021 11:56

Most of the Michelin star and similar places I’ve been to have lived up to their reputation. From high street / chain places - Jamie’s Italian and Carluccio’s. Jamie’s was deeply average food and very over priced. Carluccio’s has on two occasions been pretty horrible despite me being very easy to please.

Rain forest cafe- although I don't think people go for the food!!!

Barbaqua at St Paul's, also Jamie Oliver and now closed. Just awful in every way.
Ghoulette · 19/11/2021 11:57

I found this absolutely AMAZING Chinese near me a couple of years back. It was £££ but so totally worth it that I raved about it to anyone who would listen. The couple of people who DID try it agreed it was awesome. It's also the only place in my city that sells crispy belly pork (that I am aware of).

Had it last night and it was fucking AWFUL. Like, 100x worse than your average crappy-but-delicious Chinese awful. Everything was soggy, oily and completely bland. Never spending money there again.

Aqua55 · 19/11/2021 11:57

Nusr-Et. Very underwhelming.

Hoppinggreen · 19/11/2021 11:57

@Microwaveableteapot

Agree, Tattu is pretty bad - the food would be OK if it was about half the price, it's not crap just not worth what they're charging. It's a place for instagrammers imo
Oh bugger I’m going next Thursday night I don’t even have Insta

me neither.
Rosesandblossoms · 19/11/2021 11:58

Hide. Everything that’s wrong with London under one roof. Overpriced and underwhelming food. Overpriced wine. Rude staff and revolting clientele. It was two years ago and I’m still angry about it.

Such a shame as Dabbous was great, but he’s totally gone up his own arse with this iteration.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 19/11/2021 11:58

Jamie.
Went for lunch as a table of 7. Practically empty and had booked. Made to stand and wait for no known reason. Sat down. Took 15 mins to take our order, by which time we had already decided not to have starters due to time. Mains, which were bog standard took 35 mins to arrive and 3out of the 6 were cold. Literally didn't see another member of staff to get more drinks or desserts until we stood up, put on our coats and approached the door.

Grenlei · 19/11/2021 11:59

Also afternoon tea at the Ritz.

Mediocre food, lacklustre service. Definitely not worth the money - all the other big hotels do it so much better.

girlmom21 · 19/11/2021 11:59

@Practicebeingpatient

Further to my last post re Gaucho, I just googled it and the wine lists have changed now. Obviously I wasn't the only one frustrated by them.
They went into administration a while ago so hopefully whoever saved them has stepped their game up.

I thought it was incredibly overpriced.

TheMaddingCrowd · 19/11/2021 11:59

A place in York called the house of trembling madness. I ordered a meat platter and it was just four fucking slices of meat! Fucking. Four. Just completely taking the piss.

ColinTheKoala · 19/11/2021 11:59

I went to Jamies in Guildford many years ago and thought it was really nice. But I don't think they had been open long and were still making an effort. The ASK chain are/were dire - bad food and bad service - I have been to a couple and had a bad experience in both.

In terms of "posh" eateries I thought L'Ortolan in Shinfield was a bit meh for a Michelin-starred place.

ElsieMc · 19/11/2021 11:59

I live near a posh foodie village. I have not eaten at the premier restaurant there which costs £££ but at it's sister restaurant. Although the food was okay, my mashed potato was very lumpy. Perhaps it is trendy now ,alongside lukewarm food. It reminds me of the emporer's new clothes.

I enjoyed it! And the view is amazing
BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 19/11/2021 12:00

They opened a Tim Horton near us so we nipped in to try in when passing. A friend raves about it.

It's like a Costa but with burgers.

Our burgers were cold, boring, expensive. The cross cut chips also cold. Bland.

Very disappointing.

amusedbush · 19/11/2021 12:01

Dishoom. Everyone and their granny raves about it but DH and I were very disappointed by it.

We went to the Carnaby one in 2019 and it was rubbish. Really expensive for curry that tasted like Heinz tomato soup and a naan so dry and hard it turned to dust when you picked it up. I wouldn't go back.

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 19/11/2021 12:02

I loved Benares.

But years ago (when it was very popular & rated) I had a dreadful meal at the River Cafe. I'm vegetarian and the 'vegetarian option' was a plate of the vegetable sides from the rest of the menu. Shockingly bad. Fortunately work was paying so we just laughed it off.

littlelordfuckleroy · 19/11/2021 12:02

Restaurant Gordon Ramsey, hospital street. So stuffy and uptight. Awful

FluffyBooBoo · 19/11/2021 12:03

Just off Hanover Street?

The overrated one? No, Tollcross.
