To ask what’s the most overrated restaurant you’ve eaten at?

I think for me, it’s a restaurant called “Tattu”. They’re dotted all around the UK and was so excited to try it but the food was so average yet they charge £100+ for two people based on a starter and main HmmConfused. Everyone who I know has been there absolutely loved it so maybe it’s just DP & I!

This post has attracted a huge response and I'm not surprised! I refuse to pay good money for mediocre food anymore. Its almost always a disappointment these days. I'd rather cook it myself because its usually much better.

The Wolseley. Food was dreadful and the acoustics in the room are tricky - so noisy. Plus Amanda Holden was at the next table looking very pleased with herself.

The star inn at harome has just burnt down

@JumperandJacket

Oh yes, Fifteen was appalling. The only saving grace was that there was a solo diner on the next table, an American woman who kept leaning over to tell us that she was a very important restaurant reviewer there to write a review. She had a notebook that she kept writing in. Except she was very obviously not a restaurant reviewer, was absolutely blind drunk and, when we saw what was in the notebook, there wasn’t any writing at all, she had just drawn wiggly lines.
Haha this made me giggle!

The restaurant in the Gherkin. Searcys? Rubbish service and average food. Was tres disappointed. Was a few years ago but still remember thinking meh.

Well I went to Tattu last night and after reading this I was expecting it to be style over substance but it was absolutely delicious!
I am usually very critical about sub standard food and plenty of times I have had a meal that I thought was “ok” while other people have thought it was great but I can honestly say the food was really really good.
The Monkfish was one of the nicest things I have eaten in a long time
Bloody expensive but worth it

shinynewapple21 · 26/11/2021 12:36

@Shortbread49 it was one in central York we had planned to go to which was the one I thought the previous poster was talking about

Shortbread49 · 26/11/2021 13:43

Yes that’s still there I’ve never been, it’s in a lovely setting enjoy
@FluffyBooBoo I'm sure I know the Thai you mean. we went during eat out to help
Out and even with twenty quid off the bill, it was still overpriced.

Much better is Absolut Thai round the corner from The Kings theatre and it's BYOB.

Also underwhelmed by Tattu. The starters were lovely, but the main courses ( oh sorry Big dishes Hmm) were ridiculously overpriced. For person who is going, stick to starters and cocktails.
Go to Dusit, it's gorgeous. I know the place you're talking about and I had a good experience but Dusit will always be my favourite

Totally agree with anyone saying Dishoom. We saved it for a special occasion after a the rave reviews and we were so disappointed.

I first went to the " Rick Stein's" Seafood Restaurant in Padstow in 2000 and had lunch. Simply but expertly presented, delicious, excellent quality and very enjoyable. We went back again in 2011 and stayed in one of the rooms. The accommodation was lovely but dinner was dreadful. Truly awful, not to mention eye-wateringly expensive. Will never eat there or in any "Rick Stein" establishment again.

Oh yes, Jamie's Italian in Guildford. Was served stone cold whitebait straight from the fridge - they didn't even bother to pop it in the microwave to pretend it had been freshly fried. Horrible food and dingy decor.

Man behind the Curtain was so bad.

Wanted to go for years, wish I hadn't bothered
