AIBU to not answer the door when she arrives?

I have a few unused gift sets that I advertised for free in a local page.

A woman massaged me this morning to ask if they were available? I told her yes and she arranged to collect this evening at 5.45.

6.15 comes and no sign of her so o message to ask if she’s still coming

She replied…

“Chill, I’m just putting petrol in the car”

She’s still not here.

Fucking hate time wasters, especially cheeky ones. I’m tempted not to answer the door if she eventually turns up. What is it with entitled people who think you’ll sit around all evening waiting for them to come!

Every time I have used olio to rehome stuff this has happened it really annoys me.

liveforsummer · 19/11/2021 19:44

Sorry just realised this was last night - I just looked at the time of the post and thought it was an ongoing incident 😆

Lady08 · 19/11/2021 19:55

I put any free stuff I have in charity bags now, I’ve had more than my fair share of time wasters, including the ones who ask if I can deliver the item to them, even when it’s free.

TurnUpTurnip · 19/11/2021 19:58

@hotmess19

Sold a tv once, agreed to sell it for 1/5 of what we put it up for. Buyer asked if we could deliver, so I quoted him for the same amount as a taxi to and from mine to his would cost.

Ended up with having to call the police and get a restraining order after he found out my address, I’d only given him a post code.

Since I’ve tried once, it’s been two months and I’ve moved countries so Facebook has blocked me from market place but I still get messages asking for the item, when I inform them that I do not I just get rude replies.

Sorry but why did you have to get a restraining order? Are you saying he came to your address after? Isn’t it normal to get the address Of someone you are buying something from?
Fupoffyagrasshole · 19/11/2021 20:09

Jeez I hate this

I listed some dove moisturiser on olio when I was moving house said needs to be gone tomorrow as moving house -

Usual is this available messages come

I say yes etc -

A week later a lady messages me saying what happened I said it was available and now it’s unlisted

She got quite rude and I actually burst into tears as I had just had a baby a few days earlier and moved house - stress levels were high

Had to laugh in the end - it was moisturiser that had been opened and cost about 2£ and she was hurling abuse at me for not keeping it for her 🤷‍♀️😂

YouLookNiceJackie · 19/11/2021 20:15

I've just had similar! A lady with a sob story about how her boyfriends daughter was coming to stay and she has nothing at his etc. I was planning on having a sort out and taking some stuff to the charity shop but instead got a large bag of suitable stuff together. Arranged a time, made sure I was back and she didn't show. Messaged and asked her and she said "been busy, forgot" and then asked if she could come the next day. Again arranged a time and she didn't show or let me know. It's going to the charity shop!

cherish123 · 19/11/2021 20:31

"Chill.." is very cheeky. I would not answer the door to her.

VickyEadieofThigh · 19/11/2021 20:51

I know that offering stuff for free on Fb brings out the most CF of Cheeky Fuckers but had not direct experience of it until we put an item of furniture on there - "free, but you must collect" - last week.

One woman, for example, expected us to drive an hour and a half each way to deliver it and generously offered to pay petrol...

BashfulClam · 19/11/2021 21:03

Ifvtgeynatevtoilwtrirs put them in the good bag k as they collect hygiene items too. That what I do after Christmas with gift sets,

MarshaBradyo · 19/11/2021 21:05

Chill?

That does it I’m not sure she’ll be chill on no answer

hotmess19 · 19/11/2021 21:06

I just realised I deleted a chunk of the reply. But I hadn’t given him my address yet, just a postcode, as he was asking for a delivery and he somehow found out the exact address (including flat number) and kept ringing the door bell, throwing stuff at out windows, following me into work, calling my work place, etc. He never got the tv as even when I offered him it, he only wanted it if I’d drive it (and him) there.

Jjjayfee · 19/11/2021 21:10

When I put stuff on Freecycle I always wait a bit and give to the polite ones. Never had a no show. I can't always be bothered to take stuff to charity shop.

TravelDreamLife · 19/11/2021 21:16

I rarely sell now. Only if it's a big item I want someone to pick up & get out of my house & I advertise it cheap. They go quickly & people are motivated to turn up!

Still lots of time wasters messaging me tho.

Calm33 · 19/11/2021 21:18

Take them to a charity shop and tell the rude woman that they have gone.

so very rude.

MarshaBradyo · 19/11/2021 21:19

@Lightasafly

No show! I’ve messaged and blocked her and told her they are no longer available 🤯.

They’ll go to the local charity shop that helps to fund local children and OAPs etc.

Lesson learned!

No show

How rude

Roxy69 · 19/11/2021 21:32

Better to donate to a local charity shop than give away to random strangers who may in fact be quite wealthy. At least the charity shops will get a little money for them. Please think of them, they do such good work recycling.

I gave away a lawnmower to a guy who desperately needed one and couldn't afford one.

It was on FB marketplace within an hour for £60 😡

Insanelysilver · 19/11/2021 22:17

Chill?! What a bloody cheek ! I’d have told her she was rude and the free gift sets are no longer available.

Dnaltocs · 19/11/2021 23:46

Just text. Too late to call now.

sue20 · 20/11/2021 01:08

@Datsandcogs

Please answer the door to her and tell her someone else has already collected! A kind freebie doesn’t deserve the attitude she’s already shown.
Don’t do this you don’t know who she is. At best you will be wound up but at worst you could get injured. It’s not otherwise a massive problem is it? Do you have a charity shop you can donate these to? This could be someone wanting to sell on I would be annoyed at that thought tbh
MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 20/11/2021 03:40

Oh - I would definitively answer tbe door as doubtless she would ring persistently as can see you’re in. However, I would politely tell her the items were no longer available

cookiemonster2468 · 20/11/2021 05:01

Nope, the "chill" comment would tip me over and I would tell her not to come, you're going out etc.

Things like FB marketplace are a nightmare for this.

If I'm selling anything, I arrange the collection time with the buyer and make it very clear that I will be going out very soon after so if they are late I won't be there. It works.

Fiveunder5 · 20/11/2021 05:44

YANBU
Let her chill at the door! How rude

SnackSizeRaisin · 20/11/2021 06:22

How can anyone desperately need a lawnmower?

cocktailclub · 20/11/2021 06:28

I've had three no shows for a piece of furniture I'm selling at a really fair price on marketplace. I don't like it that they get your address then never turn up.
I've also had someone offer me half price and suggest I deliver it.
Some real time wasters for a decent piece of furniture
