AIBU to not answer the door when she arrives?

I have a few unused gift sets that I advertised for free in a local page.

A woman massaged me this morning to ask if they were available? I told her yes and she arranged to collect this evening at 5.45.

6.15 comes and no sign of her so o message to ask if she’s still coming

She replied…

“Chill, I’m just putting petrol in the car”

She’s still not here.

Fucking hate time wasters, especially cheeky ones. I’m tempted not to answer the door if she eventually turns up. What is it with entitled people who think you’ll sit around all evening waiting for them to come!

With facebook market place you have to accept you will end up dealing with cretins especially when advertising things for free. She was taking the piss though.

@stevalnamechanger

I find giving people a window works best . I am in between 5/5:30
I have to do that because of zoom and people still don't turn up.
PonderingTotskeit · 18/11/2021 22:48

I’ve had this happen to me. Apparently there’s some twisted people who make a habit of this and are sitting at home laughing at you waiting for them to turn up. I have no idea why.

I just give things to charity shops now.

Chimley · 18/11/2021 22:54

I was 5 minutes late picking something up this week because the workmen asked a question literally whilst I was going out of the door. She laughed when I arrived and said she was just grateful I'd turned up because she had had so many time wasters!

Theunamedcat · 18/11/2021 23:26

I was selling a brand new boxed chopstick hair curler for five pounds almost 15 people said they wanted it and ghosted several people said they were collecting it and ghosted number 11 came ASAP and was appalled at the behaviour

Everhopeful1 · 18/11/2021 23:41

I put a pile of stuff on Freecycle, all good quality, most brand new. The amount of timewasters was incredible - even when I messaged & said do you still want after a no show they said yes yes -then didn't turn up again. It had been going so well when my first giveaway turned up with a jar of homemade jam for me! heyho...

We offered used bar stools free on our local page once. The woman came to collect them and my husband said when he put them in the car there was a second hand dishwasher in there 😂 It turned out she just went about collecting anything and everything to sell on!

So many chancers on these groups

saltinesandcoffeecups · 19/11/2021 01:46

I have a neighborhood FB group, everyone here does the “Free- sitting outside -short description- will be there until it’s gone or Tuesday whichever comes first.”

Then the most you have to deal with is “is it stills available?” And you look outside and say ‘yep’ or you get the “thanks! Picked it up” reply and it’s sorted.

Honestly by the time things leave my house I just want them gone and aren’t really interested in selling.

dlizi4 · 19/11/2021 17:24

@MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry

Don’t answer. If she texts to say she’s at the door respond with “chill, I’m on my way to the door” but don’t go Grin
this!
Yogalola · 19/11/2021 17:26

I would of taken them to a local charity shop for them to make some money from them. A cheeky person like that is probably going to sell them on and profit from your good nature!

chaosmaker · 19/11/2021 17:26

For anyone with spare/free toiletries, someone on my local fb site asked what to do with some she had and in our area hospitals are crying out for them as visitors are minimal due to current regs. Otherwise all the other suggestions homeless shelters, women's aid, general charity were great :)

Appleby11 · 19/11/2021 17:27

I'd say okay see you soon. Then just keep smiling and waving at her through the window when she got there but not answering the door.

If you want to sell the item just open the door and hand it to her and take her money. It seems quite common that people seem to waste sellers time

Mandyjack · 19/11/2021 17:31

A lot of boot salers get their stock from other stalls

KateM91 · 19/11/2021 17:31

I advertised a big bag of builders sand, we had building work done but it didn’t all get used. Was going to cost £180+ to get it collected and disposed of. Someone suggested that I put it on Facebook free to collect. I did. Guy collected it. But then as he drove off he drove into front garden wall 🙈 took over a month to sort it through his car insurance. Never putting anything on Facebook free to collect again 😂😂😂

Queenbee77 · 19/11/2021 17:31

Sometimes things turn up and I end up being late. But no way would I tell anyone to chill. I would be apologising and telling them my eta. But do CHILL and don t answer door. If ahe texts...tell her you are so chilled you cant be bothered answering .

Since when does "free" involve the exchange of cold hard cash?
ToniHargis · 19/11/2021 17:33

I once had this with a young guy. The item I was advertising would most likely be in my garage, and although he'd arranged to come the following evening, Lo and behold, my garage was broken into that night.
Idiots didn't realise that if there's a car parked outside the garage, meaning that you have to crawl under the door, you're not going to be able to get much out!
Lots of scams.

IntermittentParps · 19/11/2021 17:35

@Lightasafly

No show! I’ve messaged and blocked her and told her they are no longer available 🤯.

They’ll go to the local charity shop that helps to fund local children and OAPs etc.

Lesson learned!

Good for you! How fucking rude of her.

Super polite of you to even let her know. I would have just blocked. Glad the charity has received nice stuff.
calvados · 19/11/2021 17:41

This one! Too late honey… you snooze … etc. then drop off to charity shop. I did this with a brand new dishwasher I was giving away as my new kitchen came with a a bonus dishwasher. Fussy cow didn’t show up and then turned up next day all entitled and posh but I expect had a chip on her shoulder that it was a freebie she was after. I lied and told her someone else came that morning after her no show. She was so miffed and turned on her heel without a word. It was worth it to see her leave like a skunk. I gave it to a work mates newly married daughter instead. Alls well that ends well …Smile

SpookyScarySkeletons · 19/11/2021 17:44

I’ve given up giving stuff away for free. Too much hassle from CFs.

Was gifting a single bed a few months ago. Collection only as I’m disabled. One woman had a rant at me as I could guarantee delivery for her. So she not only wanted the bed free she also wanted it taking to her home and building up. FTS!

SpookyScarySkeletons · 19/11/2021 17:44

*couldnt

StarCourt · 19/11/2021 17:48

I had this recently. Was giving away a wardrobe. Nothing wrong with I'd just bought DD a bigger one.
Guy messaged said he wanted it, we agreed a time for him to collect. He messaged to say he was running late, but I had to go to work so
I agreed to leave it out front for him.
Lugged it out on my own and went to work.
Came home and it was still there but soaking wet and the top had bowed due to the heavy rain.
I ended up having to pay somebody to take it away
