I am team chiggs all the way but feel like they will give it to crystelle. I think he has had a fantastic year and sort of deserves it more. I know that might be wrong to say.

What are your thoughts

I find some of these responses so bizarre - they are just contestants on a baking show who are prompted and edited to look and talk in a certain way. They all seem excellent bakers to me and, as I can't taste the things they bake, I'm trusting the judges to decide you was the best/worst on the day. That's the point of the show - Juergen was judged to be the weakest in a week when everyone seemed to up their game.

I think any of the remaining bakers would be worthy winners.

junglejane66 · 17/11/2021 10:11

Who'd have thought there would be so much interest in watching people making cakes

JumperandJacket · 17/11/2021 10:12

I think they should have put all four through.

Toddlerteaplease · 17/11/2021 10:13

Don't care now that Jurgen has gone. But don't want Chrystel to win just because of the fake shocked faces. It's so annoying.

JadeTrinket · 17/11/2021 10:16

@HeddaGarbled

Women have to do the fake modesty, else they get accused of being arrogant. It’s a lifetime of socialisation. Chrystelle is good. They all are.
Hear, hear. I've lost count of how many times I've read this about other women bakers on GBBO -- who was the PE teacher with the very nice lipstick a few years ago?

This thread has reminded me that I have, without intending to, stopped watching Bake Off several weeks ago, because I was finding it weird unabsorbing, despite being a fan other years. I thought the final was going to be Jurgen, Giuseppe and AN Other, so am baffled to find J has gone!

Skeumorph · 17/11/2021 10:18

Hating the talk of Chrystelle being 'fake' - aka being female it seems!

Let's start a chat on how fake it is for Chigs to suddenly have developed the need to wear glasses and turn from 'cheeky chappie' to 'earnest smiley serious young man' once he got through to the higher stakes bit, shall we! Grin

I think it was probably right for Jurgen to go out.

He was the only one who didn't get the handshake = last in the first section.

He came first in technical but it was the best of a bad bunch - they said it was overbaked.

He was probably level pegging with Guiseppe on showstopper pretty much, but G was second in technical and had the handshake. Jurgen goes.

Kikkomam · 17/11/2021 10:19

The handshake is a load of controlling bollocks and Paul Hollywood is a bully

22Giraffes · 17/11/2021 10:34

Poor Jurgey Pops was robbed and it made me sad when he was left out of the handshakes Sad I want Giuseppe to win now, Chigs 2nd and Chrystelle last- don't like her at all.

notthemum · 17/11/2021 10:34

I hope it's Chiggs, I can't stand Crystelle and Guisseppe I'm a bit meh 😕.
I cannot get over the fact that Crystelle dropped her offering on the floor last week. The judges did not see this but the cameraman and the viewers certainly did. She then plated up and served it. The judges ate it. Ffs. I think this was disgusting and she should have been disqualified.

LoopyGremlin · 17/11/2021 10:45

Jurgen should have won in my opinion. I’ll Switch to Giuseppe but under duress!

ColinTheKoala · 17/11/2021 10:51

Crystelle reminds me of one of those people in school who would say “oh I’m soooo bad at maths I haven’t revised for this test at all”, then act shocked when they got an A

yes. I thought her shock at winning star bake yesterday was completely fake. It was obvious from the comments - after all PH said her bake was flawless.

That said, I know it is edited very carefully, so maybe it wasn't so obvious if you were there.

WhatHoMarjorie · 17/11/2021 10:54

I like Crystelle!

I think it'll be quite a good final in that I wouldn't be comfortable putting money on a winner. Think it might be Chigs though as they've emphasised his 'journey'. I've quite enjoyed that the winner hasn't been clear since the start. People who looked like an early face (Jurgen!) didn't even make it to the final.

WhatHoMarjorie · 17/11/2021 10:54

*fave

prettypinkflamingo · 17/11/2021 10:56

I said last year I wasn't going to watch anymore as the contestants were more 'emotional backstory' than bakers but Jurgen won me over this year when I dipped into an episode. Now he's gone, I'm over it. He was just a good consistent baker and should have stayed. It's all about the personalities now rather than the baking.

WhatHoMarjorie · 17/11/2021 10:57

I do hate the handshake bollocks. It's only since the move to Channel 4 that they decided to make it a thing. I enjoy Bakeoff despite the overly gelled baker, so it always irritates me when everyone goes 'omg, squeeee, handshake, eeeek'.
BonnesVacances · 17/11/2021 10:57

makes me wonder why they bother with the technical. To my mind it shows the most skill because it relies on your knowledge and judgement rather than having been able to practice but it seems to count for nothing.

I agree. This should be the deciding round, not the showstopper.

BIWI · 17/11/2021 10:57

Surely the point is that Crystelle and Chiggs have improved massively throughout the series, whereas Jurgen - great baker though he is - hasn't? And he's been less consistent in the last few weeks as well.

I agree. I think his leaving was the right decision.

I thought that was Jurgen? Dropping the sausage rolls on the floor?

I like Giuseppe mostly because his bakes always seem really appealing, they look neat and have nice flavours.

Umm it was Jurgen that dropped the sausages rolls on the floor.
LadyPenelope68 · 17/11/2021 11:05

Team Chigs all the way - he’s coming across as such a lovely bloke, keeping my fingers crossed. If not him then definitely Giuseppe, as Crystelle is so fake and cringeworthy:

True.
SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 17/11/2021 11:14

I like all three of the finalists, so I will be happy whoever wins. I did think Jurgen was a shoo-in for the winner, but he had a bad week this week - not even a particularly terrible one, just not as good as the other three, so I do think the judges made the right decision.

That said, I do think they could have put all four into the final, as they were so close.

Prue said his first bake was sensational and she would've offered him a handshake. Why is it down to just what Paul thinks?

His showstopper tasted better than Giuseppe's (they claim flavour is what matters the most), it was crafted better than any other showstopper (a 40 biscuit centrepiece, compared to Crystelle's and Giuseppe's rice puffs and Chigs's broken mega biscuit), literally the only criticism they could come up with was that the colour was a bit dull - but surely it fit the serene zen theme?

His flavours in all three challenges were great, unlike Giuseppe's in showstopper and Chigs who properly screwed up the second bake. How on earth did he deserve to go based on that?

dreamingbohemian · 17/11/2021 11:20

On Extra Slice last week, Prue said she had no idea the sausage rolls were dropped on the floor before she ate them -- she only learned this now! She did not look happy.
