Was I wrong to tell hairdresser the truth ? Pic*

I have been going to a new hair salon since the summer so this was visit 4/5…

I have lovely long thick hair and I’m quite specific and clear about what I want, more so over the fringe as I’ve had bad ones in the past. The hairdresser has cut my hair on two previous occasions with no issues but today in my eyes she butchered it and my British politeness evaded me when I looked in the mirror…

She asked if I liked it … I have a sharp No!
She asked why don’t you like it ? I explained that it was wonky, above the eyebrow when I specifically said I wanted it just below and the thinning had given different thickness throughout … the hairdresser was clearly shocked I said no and said ‘ I’ve seen lots of fringes and this is fine ‘

The manager also sided with her, I paid and left ( £90) for the colour cut and blow dry. A few mins after leaving the salon calls me and I ignore as I’m raging at this point on my phone to my friend and then a mobile number calls me and it’s the manager calling off her phone to tell me off for leaving a 1 star on Treatwell… is that even allowed ?

She asked me to remove the one and said giggling ‘ we really don’t deserve the one ‘ I said I deserved a decent cut . She said she didn’t know how I felt about it I pointed out she was there the whole time standing and I paid her and spoke about it at the end … she said what do you want to be happy ? I’ll give you discount or free £15 treatment next time…. Next time ?! Hell no!

I made a excuse to get off the line but I did leave a google review and a photo.

Was I wrong to be not typically British politeness and straight up say NO when asked if I liked it … ? What is your opinion on that fringe cut ? For context it was just below my eyebrows , even and the same thickness when I went in

It's not what you asked for when you were quite specific & doesn't sit well. I wouldn't be happy either

RantyAunty · 16/11/2021 01:39

YANBU

They did mess it up.
I'd never go back there.

1forAll74 · 16/11/2021 02:10

It's not so good really, but don't like fringes and itsy bitsy hair styles, but you needed to tell them the truth if you were unhappy about things..

mathanxiety · 16/11/2021 02:20

I'd be tempted to add to your review that the manager called you to tell you off for leaving one star.

Shasha17 · 16/11/2021 03:31

The fringe is fine. You could have literally sorted it with your fingers. You were being unreasonable to be stroppy about it, to give a one star review which could damage their business and to refuse her offer to make it up to you. And rude, in my opinion. I´d not have behaved like that.

cookiemonster2468 · 16/11/2021 04:34

I don't think it looks bad at all, but the point is it's not what you wanted.

You clearly explained how long you wanted your fringe and they have clearly cut it shorter than you asked for, so they should have apologised and given you a discount off the cut.

cookiemonster2468 · 16/11/2021 04:35

@mathanxiety

Also this.

They behaved unprofessionally all round. This isn't how you respond to an unhappy customer.

MakeMineAdoubleChocolate · 16/11/2021 04:58

I actually don't think it's as bad as you think, op.

But the salon were extremely unprofessional and ridiculous and should have given you the discount when this happened

Diverseopinions · 16/11/2021 04:58

I think it looks bad and I'm glad it will grow out. If you have thick glossy hair, you obviously want to maximize the heavy, rich, lush look, not change it for something looking spindly.

I'd probably say to her that this is the way the world works today, and people leave reviews, but I wouldn't go leaving reviews again, for businesses, unless dire, or health and safety, as it can ruin their trade, and this looks more like an error of judgement than some sort of negligence, such as leaving the colour on too long and hurting your scalp.

Hope next cut is better

lunarlandscape · 16/11/2021 05:35

It's dreadful. You were right to say so and to leave a bad review. And their response is shocking.

At least it will grow out.

RomanaBanana · 16/11/2021 05:41

The fringe is awful and as someone who has had fringes in the past, it’s really difficult to find a hair dresser who can cut good fringes.

JustJustWhy · 16/11/2021 06:00

I just keep thinking this...

Mistymoors · 16/11/2021 06:01

Yes I agree it’s not a good cut, she’s over thinned it and it’s uneven . I had the same with a bad uneven colour once and the owner of the hairdresser in question went ballistic when I dared to mention it !

daretodenim · 16/11/2021 06:22

I am not a hairdresser and I cut my kids' hair. If I'd done that to the fringe I'd have apologised to them and likely taken them to a hairdresser to try and sort it out (goal is straight, blunt).

I'm glad you out the photo up. I'm amazed she's disputing it when there's an actual photo! No way would I ever go to a salon that was adamant that that photo was good (given what it was supposed to be!). If anybody is ruining their business it's the staff and the wonder!

Thehop · 16/11/2021 06:33

They were very unprofessional to argue you were wrong. It’s not what you asked for.

DiamondBright · 16/11/2021 06:37

What's an itsy bitsy hairstyle?
Brighton5555 · 16/11/2021 06:40

@rwalker

Looks like the picture has been done to make it look as bad as possible.
😮😮 Yes your so right ! I sat in my car straight after and rather than take a natural photo to see if it still looked as horrific as in the salon mirror i actually spent a hour working the camera angle to make sure it looked as wonky and as messed up as possible ….

Don’t tell anyone else but I actually used a special vanishing filter to make it appear as thinned out as possible ….. 😵‍💫

I made sure to mention that in the review I have also contacted Treatwell.

@notangelinajolie

YABU I don't think your hair is as thick as you think it is.
Oh but it is …. Even if I was to have a head of baby thin hair … there is still no excuse to do that to a fringe !
OP posts:
Riddo · 16/11/2021 06:52

YANBU. Well done for complaining, I've had a couple of terrible haircuts in the past and been too polite to complain. Sorry but your fringe looks like my one attempt to do my own, it didn't go well!

Ducksareruiningmypatio · 16/11/2021 07:30

The people that are saying she's making a fuss over nothing and deliberately made it worse for the pic...
Are you "stylists" by any chance?
There is a massive gulf between good and bad hairdressers and some really are shocking.
The chains especially promote people way beyond their skills and try to charge £90 for a senior stylist cut done by someone straight out of college.
I've had hair cut by a student, but I knew she was a student and let her take her time etc. I resent paying top prices for shoddy cuts by the inexperienced

Guacamole001 · 16/11/2021 07:46

My fringe is rarely done correctly. I had to trim mine again 2 weeks after going the last time. Hopeless!

november90 · 16/11/2021 11:42

Did you show the hairdressers a photo Op? If so can we see?

Brighton5555 · 16/11/2021 11:46

No I didn’t show a photo to them. She has cut my hair a few times before and I’m always always very clear about what I want . I said below the eyebrows … it’s gets worse as today ive now realised they haven’t cut the rest of my hair the same length one side is about 1cm shorter than the other 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

IntermittentParps · 16/11/2021 11:58

Well, YABU for paying.
But YANBU for being truthful about not liking it. And she shouldn't call you to harangue you and I'd add to your review that you have been harassed and that she claimed wrongly that she didn’t know how you felt about it.
