Was I wrong to tell hairdresser the truth ? Pic*

I have been going to a new hair salon since the summer so this was visit 4/5…

I have lovely long thick hair and I’m quite specific and clear about what I want, more so over the fringe as I’ve had bad ones in the past. The hairdresser has cut my hair on two previous occasions with no issues but today in my eyes she butchered it and my British politeness evaded me when I looked in the mirror…

She asked if I liked it … I have a sharp No!
She asked why don’t you like it ? I explained that it was wonky, above the eyebrow when I specifically said I wanted it just below and the thinning had given different thickness throughout … the hairdresser was clearly shocked I said no and said ‘ I’ve seen lots of fringes and this is fine ‘

The manager also sided with her, I paid and left ( £90) for the colour cut and blow dry. A few mins after leaving the salon calls me and I ignore as I’m raging at this point on my phone to my friend and then a mobile number calls me and it’s the manager calling off her phone to tell me off for leaving a 1 star on Treatwell… is that even allowed ?

She asked me to remove the one and said giggling ‘ we really don’t deserve the one ‘ I said I deserved a decent cut . She said she didn’t know how I felt about it I pointed out she was there the whole time standing and I paid her and spoke about it at the end … she said what do you want to be happy ? I’ll give you discount or free £15 treatment next time…. Next time ?! Hell no!

I made a excuse to get off the line but I did leave a google review and a photo.

Was I wrong to be not typically British politeness and straight up say NO when asked if I liked it … ? What is your opinion on that fringe cut ? For context it was just below my eyebrows , even and the same thickness when I went in

Yabu.
People like you ruin small businesses with your bad reviews. It’s not even that bad. Maybe you should give them the opportunity to make it right.

Famousinlove · 15/11/2021 20:43

YANBU

At least its not as bad as Courtney Cox' fringe in Scream

Brighton5555 · 15/11/2021 20:44

I have in the past said oh it’s lovely and even tipped when it’s been bloody horrible so that’s why I’m so so direct about what I want and to be fair I haven’t been butchered for a couple years now but when I opened my eyes ….. the words came out before I could even tell myself to pretend to like it !

The manager is bloody awful when I think about it . She was present the whole time she and the calling me after … I hope Treatwell look into it

And how are they going to do that?

Stick bits on?

Runnerduck34 · 15/11/2021 20:44

It's clearly shorter than what you asked for, but doesn't look wonky but looks like it's been thinned out.
Clearly hairdresser didn't listen to you and I admire you for telling them it's not what you had asked for, many of us are too polite when our hair isn't what quite what we wanted!
But honestly once it's washed, fiddled with it will probably lay better and I doubt people will think it looks awful or notice it IRL ( although I appreciate you will feel conscious of it). It will quickly grow out, Chalk it up to experience and try another salon

expat101 · 15/11/2021 20:48

It's obviously a very personal choice and you are very brave to put it up for comments, but I don't think the fringe is the problem...

I would be brassed off though if your review has been removed. Perhaps go after whoever runs that website.

Londontown12 · 15/11/2021 20:49

Hairstylist here ! Looks like she got scissor happy and completely forgot what u usually have done ! Was she chatting a lot ? That’s when I get new clients because of these silly mistakes usually due to not concentrating ! I always always take tiny amounts and if it takes 6 times I’d rather that than have an unhappy client ! X

Small businesses ruin themselves by being so dismissive of customer service.

This is a terrible fringe, sorry OP but it really is.

Poetrypatty · 15/11/2021 20:50

Seems very harsh on the OP- it's not her fault the stylist did something the OP would never have asked for. You could argue it's doing a public service to let people know about dodgy hairdressers, rather than letting them find out by having a bad haircut!

FatBettyintheCoop · 15/11/2021 20:51

If you said ‘bit by bit’, I think the hairdresser maybe misheard you and thought you asked for a bitty fringe and so cut into it quite a bit.

Next time ask the hairdresser to give your fringe a blunt cut across your eyebrows. Blunt cut means exactly that.

The salon manager sounds like she’s never heard the phrase ‘the customer is always right’ and I think she was bang out of order to phone you and harass you afterwards.

HikingforScenery · 15/11/2021 20:51

Yanbu. It’s a shame they didn’t listen to you. Potential customers deserve to know what they’re like. Well done for leaving the review.

Your fringe looks fine to me though. I just I don’t have a fringe and no nothing about it. They must’ve chopped quite a bit off to thin it out though as your hair doesn’t look thick at all but the fringe looks ok

HomeSliceKnowsBest · 15/11/2021 20:53

I'd be small claims courting them for a refund for that OP.

nonettles · 15/11/2021 20:53

are you the hairdresser?

are you the manager?

Lol, no!
BUT, the concept of being “raging” about a haircut is alien to me. Why all the anger? There’s just no need!
I have been disappointed in a haircut in the past. I asked them to change it, and they did. If they couldn’t, I would have asked for an appropriate discount/refund.
It is possible to do this politely and pleasantly without ranty phone calls, hanging up on people and angry reviews. So much unnecessary drama…

Slobberstops · 15/11/2021 20:53

Please keep leaving reviews. I really don’t want to pay for shit services with no customer focus.

Then small businesses should listen to their customers. I'm sick of pretending everything is fine because "awww they are a small business! Be nice!" All of those multi-nationals were small businesses once. Some businesses just deserve to disappear

Incompetent salon managers who are hairdressers with no additional managerial training are usually the problem, not the poor dissatisfied clients. ( I say this as an ex-hairdresser)
Idbemonica1 · 15/11/2021 20:56

Agree with you OP, i'd not be happy with that, looks uneven. You'll probably be able to fisguise it my wearing the fringe to the side a bit?

Brighton5555 · 15/11/2021 20:59

When I said raging it’s a term to explain I was having a heated talk about my experience on the phone to my friend .. nobody hanged up on the salon … though I did ignore the first call and picked up the second off her personal mobile… 🙃 and angry reviews ? No… honest ones with a photo. I find it helps when you can ‘ evidence ‘ reviews for the people who read them .

Small businesses aren’t owed unwavering support no matter how badly they fuck up. Businesses exist to make money - they aren’t a public service doing us all a favour. If they charge £90 for a haircut, they should listen to the customer and get it right.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 15/11/2021 21:05

I’d also be writing another review about the managers attitude and her “telling you off”.
Phoning you up that to me boarders on harassment. If they can’t handle criticism they shouldn’t be in business.

a1poshpaws · 15/11/2021 21:06

You were assertive, not unreasonable. They should have refunded the cost of the cut part of the cut/dye job - your poor fringe looks like a toddler massacred it while you slept.

TBH, I'd go back and edit my review just to add that they harrassed you for leaving that review, and that you feel (rightfully in my opinion!) that was crossing the line of what's acceptable behaviour.

I'm afraid I'd also name and shame, I'd be so cross!

peachesarenom · 15/11/2021 21:08

The number of bad hair cuts I've had! I wish I'd gone in like you and told them.what I really think! I wish you hadn't paid the full amount!

EwwSprouts · 15/11/2021 21:09

Looking at how thick your hair is to the sides they screwed up. My hairdresser always takes a bit off then asks is that ok or more? You wouldn't have ended up with it that short.
