DH against flu vaccine - pregnant

My DH doesn't want me to get the flu vaccine. Im 6 weeks pregnant and we were discussing it tonight; I indicated that I would be getting it and he called me a fucking idiot.

He said we shouldn't need vaccines because our bodies should be able to fight things themselves.
He had no medical or scientific background whatsoever.

This all started throughout lockdown/ covid. He believes the whole thing is about government control. He was NEVER anti-vax before this. I can kind of understand being wary about the covid vaccine during pregnancy, however, surely the flu jab is pretty standard and uncontroversial?

He watches Doctors and scientists on various platforms who have been "cancelled" by mainstream media. It's very difficult to have a conversation about this with him. If I say something he doesn't agree with, he'll get up and walk away.

Wwyd? Any advice? :(

This sounds drastic but I would leave, because is it not quite likely he'll try and avoid your baby getting the vaccines too?

@Cooperjay I’m sincerely sorry your husband became controlling and abusive after having children. That said there is a responsibility to remove your children from the situation rather than saying they’re unaware and unaffected which is not possible, so I’m glad to hear you are working on an exit strategy. Good luck with it.

When I was a small child I had measles – there was no vaccine then. I had it very bad and was ill for several weeks. I don’t remember very much as I was delirious for much of the time. My mother told me that the doctor came to visit us every day – they still used to do home visits back then. The curtains had to be kept closed at all times because they were worried that my eyes could be damaged permanently. I can still remember very clearly waking up one morning and seeing the sunlight coming through the curtains – the curtains were patterned yellow and the glow was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. I was still weak for quite a while after.
This taught me back then as a young child the importance of vaccination. Get vaccinated whatever your husband says. Get the flu vaccine, and if you haven’t already get the Covid vaccine. If he objects, then get rid. It’s best to be with somebody who cares about you and shares your life, but it’s better to be alone than to be with an idiot. The last thing you want is him kicking up a stink about childhood vaccinations for your little one.

Get the flu vaccine and get your covid vaccines (or boosters).

I'm not covid vaccinated due being cautious around a specific health condition (and as such have been label anti vacc, idiot and selfish etc), but I'm definitely not anti vacc, and the evidence of risk Vs benefit for both the flu and covid vaccines in pregnancy are very strongly in favour of the vaccines.

Get and don't tell him.

I’m afraid the saying, ‘you can’t argue with stupid’ has never been more apt. I have one of these as a Facebook friend and that’s bad enough, I can’t imagine being married to one. I’ve noticed that now none of her real friends ever comment on her numerous anti-vacs posts.

Mine is exactly the same. Refuses to get the Covid jab because "Government control", and has been making noises when I said I was getting my flu jab. I have it every year but for some reason it's a problem this year?

He also takes his information from random "Doctors and Scientists" on YouTube.

Adamant that a low-carb diet will be our saviour if we do catch Covid.

I've given up with him now.

@BrendaBulldog I'm not having baby but My DP hasn't had a covid jab because of Government control. He won't get a smart meter for the same reason! I'm fed up of crawling on my hands and knees to get a gas meter reading.

@BrendaBulldog I'm much too independent to ask him. Anyway if I had a smart meter I'd probably watch it too closely and huff and puff about the energy it consumes

It's his body, his choice, too If he doesn't want the flu shot he doesn't have to. I don't have the flu jab, the only time I had one I was so ill I've never had one since or had more than heavy colds. I had no problem having the COVID jabs and booster, before I get tarred with the anti-vaxxer label, I'm, I'm selective.
