I have taken two days off work in the last week to look after our DS as they have been unwell . DH is FAR too busy to take time off work , however not busy enough that he is able to leave at 5pm and go out on the piss !

Last week he was out three nights after work when he does get paid for overtime and my view is if you are very busy at work use that time to catch up and not go out drinking !

I am due to go out tonight , initally I thought I wouldn't go as I was up last night with ill child but hey I have thought sod it , why should he have all the fun.

A bit of a rant !

No work, imo, is that important that it couldn't be shuffled to prevent a sick child being woken and taken out in the cold...

In our house ,conversely, dh can much more easily take time out and arrange his own schedule because he is so much higher up the work food chain than I

Cam, to an extent mine can too.

He came to the nativity play today. We picked up the toddler early from nursery and he spent an hour playing with him in the living room, because he had a "window of opportunity".

But we are running our own company, so the first people to notice any slack on either or our parts, is US and consequently our bank accounts. It also means we can go away on holiday pretty much when we want to, and spent six weeks camping in Europe in summer (though he had his laptop with him to stay in touch).

He has had to come home from India twice on emergency, once when our youngest was admitted to hospital and second when our oldest needed an emergency operation, and he took off three months from work when our youngest was born. So it essence it works both ways, there are times when he can and does take time out, and there are times when he absolutely cannot. But I have a hard times getting my head around the whole scenario.
