How often do you deep clean your house all the way through?

Firstly, AIBU to be totally fed up of cleaning?!
My house is not a tip (I don't think!) but I have just spent 2 whole days cleaning it from top to bottom and it's still not finished. Twice a year I usually deep clean all the way through- things such as touch up paint, clean rugs/sofa/carpet with a professional carpet cleaner, scrub the whites around the windows, pull beds/furniture out and clean behind. I also spent at least an hour cleaning every day without the bigger jobs such as changing beds, cleaning blinds/windows etc. It honestly feels like a complete never ending task. Me and DH have been cleaning for the last two days in preparation for Christmas (last bit of annual leave before we put our tree up). I really wish I had a cleaner.

Never, struggle to get the basics done - I'd never find time let alone the energy for an hour day or 2 solid days of cleaning. Is my house dirty. Probably dirtier than yours, yes but we're all healthy he have clean clothes each day!

Seedandyarn · 09/11/2021 20:52

I don't need to do big day long cleans because I dedicate a few hours on a Friday for big cleaning jobs plus I do at least an hours cleaning each evening. My main tactic in managing our house is keeping it tidy that way cleaning time is just that for cleaning things.

ArabellaScott · 09/11/2021 20:53

A deep clean? What is this?

Atla · 09/11/2021 20:56

Never!

You clean your windows daily?!?!
This is clearly not the thread for me...[/quote]
I feel your pain! I once sat behind two women in a bus and one said to the other “ I feel my house is such a tip, I haven’t even had time to clean the skirting boards this week” I felt like leaning forward and telling her I couldn’t even remember the last time I had even thought of cleaning my skirting boards.

BeQuietBrenda · 09/11/2021 20:59

I'm a cleaner. Most clients have me over either once a week or once a fortnight for a 2-3 hour clean and that gets all the basic stuff done (ie I'm not sorting cupboards or doing their laundry)

In my own 5 bed 3 bath home - 6 people, a dog and a cat, I spend an hour a day on laundry, surface cleans/quick vacuum and tidying plus the kitchen is done daily as its small, old and so useless it has to be spotless or you can't use it.

At the weekend I will pick an area to do - so all 3 bathrooms and DH will do the living rooms. The bedrooms get done as and when needed. Bedding changes every 2 weeks. 2 flights of stairs get lumped in as one job as well.

Our place is far from spotless but we keep on top of essentials else it would be a midden pit.

Get a cleaner, modern women shouldn’t have to clean up for their families. I know cost can be an issue for some, but just make some savings elsewhere and you’ll be surprised.

GinIronic · 09/11/2021 21:00

I spray furniture polish in the air if I’m expecting guests. That’ll do.

VaizyCrazyDaizy · 09/11/2021 21:03

Never - life is too short and definitely too short of time. My house is like Groundhog Day any how as whatever I clean the family make it all a mess literally by the end of the day. I just maintain, barely and will accelerate and do a mad clear out clean if someone coming to visit. I grew up in a house where parents were tidy obsessed and it was horrible - couldn’t do anything as home was a show house so I gone the opposite way completely!

Fallagain · 09/11/2021 21:04

@Wooky8

Feeling so relieved reading all these responses! I'd love to keep a cleaner house but young children under 3 means time is short. I do random bits like cleaning skirting boards if I notice them dirty, but don't even manage a full weekly clean (which used to be weekly, now more like monthly!).

OP, your house must be so lovely and pristine! Good for you! :)

Children under 3 are ace at cleaning skirting boards. Its about the only thing they can helpfully clean.
Theawkwardblonde · 09/11/2021 21:06

I do a deep clean once a month. About 20 mins daily cleaning bathroom, kitchen, hoovering and mopping. I work full time but I make time for cleaning (as sad as that sounds). I grew up in a house with strict on cleanliness so it's It's rubbed off on me. I genuinely enjoy cleaning though so don't see it as a chore 😂 although I'm currently 33 weeks pregnant with my first so can see this cleaning routine drastically changing!

Lilolily · 09/11/2021 21:06

Ha!

HalloHello · 09/11/2021 21:08

People only clean their kitchen once a week??

I easily spend more than an hour a day cleaning. By the time the beds are made, dishwasher is emptied, bins taken out, breakfast stuff tidied up, kitchen wiped down and a washing load put on, that's easily 30 mins. That's before the nursery run.
I vaguely follow TOMM, do a room a day - tidy, dust inc skirting boards - 10 mins. Do 1 bit of bathrooms per day - 10 mins. Hoover and mop downstairs twice a week - 15 mins. Hoover upstairs probably only 2 or 3 times a month. Hang up washing load, and put dry washing away while getting kids ready for bed - 10 mins, clean the kitchen after dinner - 10 mins. That's well over an hour in 10 min bursts although I am a SAHM. Every Friday, I do 1 room windows Inc surrounds, deeper clean where needed.

When my husband and I both worked full time shift work, I'd share the jobs with my husband. One of us would blitz upstairs, one downstairs on a morning on our day off, once a week. Would only do laundry, dishwasher and wiping down the kitchen daily.

KarmaStar · 09/11/2021 21:08

Once a week

KohlaParasaurus · 09/11/2021 21:09

I'm not sure what "deep clean" involves but I'm fairly sure it's not something I ever do.

Haggisfish3 · 09/11/2021 21:09

Never here, either.

Rainbowheart1 · 09/11/2021 21:10

Never, if a window frame looks dirty I’ll clean it, but I wouldn’t go around cleaning the rest, when it’s dirty I’ll clean it but I don’t do it just because.

GoingForAWalk · 09/11/2021 21:13

I never do this, thank god so many of you don't either. Make me feel normal

Mellowyellow222 · 09/11/2021 21:13

I moved house recently and have booked a deep clean from a local cleaning company. It’s £200 and the place better sparkle when it’s finished. Although I am worried they still won’t have enough time to do it all properly.

There is no way I have the time or the patience to properly deep clean a house.

If it’s good I will get it done twice a year.

RowanAlong · 09/11/2021 21:17

You need a cleaner. Reclaim that hour a day!

ChalfontPark · 09/11/2021 21:17

We spend probably at least an hour a day between us cleaning / tidying / filling-emptying dishwasher, laundry, wiping kitchen over.
Once a week I clean the bathroom.
Most weekends I spend a couple of hours dusting and vacuuming the whole house and every other weekend that involves scrubbing the hard floors too.
Once or twice a year I move furniture on a room by room basis to clean behind / underneath.
The other jobs you describe get done when they need doing.
Don't do so much, I would say? Or at least don't feel you have to do it in one go.

ronfa · 09/11/2021 21:18

Ha, I just bought a new bed & when i moved the old one out yesterday & saw all the dust behind it near the back of the wall, I thought yuck should I be cleaning that bit regularly. Cant actually reach it though so did think maybe I should do once a yr. Probably won't though.

JennyForeigner · 09/11/2021 21:18

I always figured this is what another coat of magnolia is for.

Suspiciously · 09/11/2021 21:19

Team TOMM ran over here.
30 mins per day of focused cleaning five days per week. House never looked better.
