How often do you deep clean your house all the way through?

Firstly, AIBU to be totally fed up of cleaning?!
My house is not a tip (I don't think!) but I have just spent 2 whole days cleaning it from top to bottom and it's still not finished. Twice a year I usually deep clean all the way through- things such as touch up paint, clean rugs/sofa/carpet with a professional carpet cleaner, scrub the whites around the windows, pull beds/furniture out and clean behind. I also spent at least an hour cleaning every day without the bigger jobs such as changing beds, cleaning blinds/windows etc. It honestly feels like a complete never ending task. Me and DH have been cleaning for the last two days in preparation for Christmas (last bit of annual leave before we put our tree up). I really wish I had a cleaner.

@Dindundundundeeer 45 mins includes tidying as well, washing pots making bed hoovering (I have a cat so have to do this daily!) and then cleaning in one room. I have diagnosed OCD and used to spend a full week twice a year deep cleaning my house like OP but this is definitely more manageable for me! I know to others it sounds crazy though

Buggersticks · 11/11/2021 08:25

Only if we're decorating dies a room get a complete top to bottom. If we had a minimalist style it'd probably get done often, but it is a busy home with lots of hobbies, so it's just kept clean as possible and tided as we go.

Ah well diagnosed OCD is a tough gig and you do well to manage this. Flowers

Never, unless I m selling the house, life is way too short 🤷‍♀️

wildchild554 · 11/11/2021 09:27

@Teachertired92 I use team tomm too it's really good as used to spend hours cleaning and it never looked much better, I must admit though once I did a few weeks of it didn't take 45 minutes to do it plus I break the tasks up, whilst the kettles boiling I'd sort the washing to go in, and start a load, or fold up some and put it away, or sweep or hoover and fills that time waiting for the kettle to boil, quick clean of the bathroom is done whilst bathing the kids for instance, can't leave them despite being 8 and 10 as they have SEN and need constant guidance and some help, already stuck in there so that's a quick job I can get done and level 2 jobs only seem to take about 15-20 minutes now, if I have spare time from doing level 2 jobs in one room I then do some of the next days level 2 so it works quite well for us.

I have to clean when I can and when things need it. It is a continual slog and the house still looks crap in places. I can never get it all clean at once. Think it’s just part of living with kids/dog/family.

Teachertired92 · 11/11/2021 09:38

@Dindundundundeeer thank you!
@wildchild554 I have noticed some rooms I can do much quicker! It’s definitely helping keep on top of things

Hollyhead · 11/11/2021 09:57

I found team Tomm very slanted in favour of people who are at home a lot more than me. I leave the house at 7.40am, mon-thurs don’t get back until 7.30 after all clubs are done etc. Then bedtime etc. Not everyone has 30 mins in their day they’re willing to give up!

Thevoiceofreason2021 · 11/11/2021 10:05

The only time I deep clean is when I move house! The rest of the time it’s the organised mum method and a cleaner once a week. Life is too short

Justcashnosweets · 11/11/2021 10:08

Only if I'm decorating, or if it looks like it needs it 🤷‍♀️

Penners99 · 11/11/2021 10:13

Twice a year. 4 days each time.

jeanblew · 11/11/2021 10:48

My husband and I spring clean together over a few days once a year. Everything gets a tidy up and dust etc when we have visitors!

wentworthinmate · 11/11/2021 12:15

Never.

WeRateSquirrels · 11/11/2021 12:53

Never! Absolutely wouldn't waste precious annual leave on cleaning Shock

RedHot22 · 11/11/2021 12:56

I never, ever, deep clean my entire house.

Each room is done on a rota.
I’ve developed my own TOMM that suits me, so my home is never in the situation that’s it all clean and perfect, but then it never desperately needs a clean.

ghejxodn · 11/11/2021 13:06

Thanks everyone! Bit offended by those saying I need to get a hobby! I do have a hobby as it happens Smile and I also go out when I can with friends for coffee/cocktails etc. I think the reason why I have had to spend my annual leave cleaning is because I don't have time day to day to do the Tomm method or to do one room here and there. I work long hours and then when it comes to the weekend it's took up with taking the DC to their extra curricular stuff as well as seeing family and family days out. I didn't realise an hour a day was particularly excessive and some others on this thread spend a similar amount of time. Anyway, I have decided to enquire about a cleaner! I don't feel I'm uptight about cleaning but equally I can't relax when it's a mess and it makes me feel a bit down and like everything is out of control when the house is messy.

I don’t deep clean the whole house but I do have a tendency to hoard (new clothes, bedding etc ) so usually when I need to move things around I deep clean the room too.

Clearly I’m not doing it often enough as I found a few carpet beetles in the guest room a few weeks ago.

I’ve since read that I do need to vacuum the whole room from time to time (including moving the bed as the carpet beetles were munching on hairs caught between the bed and the carpet/ skirting board.

So I will be making an effort to move beds every 6 months and vacuum but it’s a right pain as there is stuff under the bed too.

Supermum29 · 11/11/2021 13:51

I do about an hour a day. We have a dog so I hoover and mop all downstairs every day without fail, then I always clean all our worktops and the usual kitchen cleaning and so on.
I then will spend about 4-5 hours cleaning of a weekend, gutting both bathrooms, changing beds, thorough hoover and polish upstairs and downstairs, cleaning windows if they need it. I pull the dogs crate out and clean and hoover that every Saturday morning and when I do my weekend cleaning I dust all the skirting boards etc. I’d say about once a year I’ll pull all the furniture out and hoover just because our furniture is really hard to move and I don’t fancy doing it very often.

strivingtosucceed · 11/11/2021 14:13

I usually do 5-15 mins of cleaning a day, then on Saturday will tackle my list until I give up. Usually 1-2 hours max. I don't really see the need for deep cleaning unless you've got a lot of stuff hidden behind other stuff.

PatientlyWaiting21 · 11/11/2021 14:28

Never? I’ll do things as and when needed. Ny partner and I will split the cleaning and do it once a week …

KrispyKale · 11/11/2021 14:50

Fraine: it's moving stuff that makes cleaning a hassle isn't it? In trying to declutter. Slowly!

KrispyKale · 11/11/2021 14:50

I'm..

pteradactyl · 11/11/2021 15:05

Never

WickedWitchOfTheTrent · 11/11/2021 16:45

Nope never.... it gets a good clean once a week, as in Hoover, dust, full kitchen and bathroom clean and floors mopped. I'll do odd bits n bobs during the week to keep on top of stuff.
Once a month maybe I'll clean skirting boards and windows

As for touching up paint etc, that's as and when I need to decorate a room. To me life is too short to do shit like that unless it really needs doing

tallduckandhandsome · 11/11/2021 16:45

Exactly! Once the area is clear, vacuuming and dusting is a doddle!
