How often do you deep clean your house all the way through?

Firstly, AIBU to be totally fed up of cleaning?!
My house is not a tip (I don't think!) but I have just spent 2 whole days cleaning it from top to bottom and it's still not finished. Twice a year I usually deep clean all the way through- things such as touch up paint, clean rugs/sofa/carpet with a professional carpet cleaner, scrub the whites around the windows, pull beds/furniture out and clean behind. I also spent at least an hour cleaning every day without the bigger jobs such as changing beds, cleaning blinds/windows etc. It honestly feels like a complete never ending task. Me and DH have been cleaning for the last two days in preparation for Christmas (last bit of annual leave before we put our tree up). I really wish I had a cleaner.

@Wombat49

I probably should nc for this but I've washed my kitchen floors twice since it was installed 2 years ago. I picked mud-brown oak Amtico & it never looks bad, so I'm never prompted to mop...

Got dogs, so washed the previous white vinyl endlessly. Keep my worktops & anything to do with food very clean but it's a big house & if I wanted show home standards, I'd have to clean all day, every day.

I mean each to their own and all that....but it’s not show home standards to mop more than once a year 🙄

Touched up paint often looks worse than the marks it's supposed to cover as the colour rarely matches

That's what slatterns always say, if you kept on top of the cleaning of the paintwork, and completely re-paint every year to prevent sunlight fading then it matches well.

Youdoyoutoday · 10/11/2021 11:15

I clean every day where it needs doing so basics are done, kitchen, washing up, laundry, hoover downstairs. Then I usually add something on that needs doing like cleaning the blinds, decluttering the hallway cupboard or the kids toys/wardrobe for too small clothes.

Every now and then I get the urge to do more because I've noticed something looking not as clean as I think it should be but I don't spend hours on it.

Stompythedinosaur · 10/11/2021 11:18

Approximately never! I might do a room at a time.

Wombat49 · 10/11/2021 11:28

Ha, knew I should have name changed....

MeanderingGently · 10/11/2021 11:42

I clean small bits and bobs every day (bathroom shower and sink after I've used it, washing/washing up, keep kitchen clean, bins and so on) and do a full thorough clean once a week which includes sheet change, total dust/polish, vacuuming and the lot.

I do what you call a deep clean every 6 months, although mending things, touch-up painting etc. get done as soon as they are required.

Personally I think there are many in the UK who have very poor housekeeping standards these days. And there are other who have too much 'stuff' and clutter to be able to clean thoroughly....

Mayhemmumma · 10/11/2021 11:59

I prefer a big whole day clean so I'm with you on that - don't repaint mind. Once a fortnight?

And weekly cleaner would be lovely with me just doing toilets/kitchen surfaces etc daily.

user1471538283 · 10/11/2021 12:03

I do a deep clean about once every couple of months and I spend at least a hour a day on chores with a more thorough clean one day on the weekend.

whereislittleroo · 10/11/2021 12:17

I never do this. I would love to, but I just don't have the child-free time available and trying to clean with my toddler around is a nightmare. I have a very rough rotation/schedule whereby each room gets a thorough deep clean once a fortnight and a lighter going over in between. One day it will be bathrooms, the next kids bedrooms and so forth. The result is that nothing is ever terribly dirty but there's never a time where my whole house looks nice all at once.

"Slattern" Hmm misogynist, much?

Completely re-paint every year? You need a hobby…

When I move

giraffesateleaves · 10/11/2021 13:16

@Rhubarbcrumblerules shallow clean 😂 mine is barely a splash of a clean. I used to have such an immaculate house before I had kids. Now the amount of tidying and sorting that needs doing eats into the cleaning time.

Sadly I should be dusting not on MN.

Youcunnyfunt · 10/11/2021 14:08

Once or twice a year. Usually ends up as a spring clean, tidying cupboards and clearing out junk. It also involves things like moving furniture to clean the floor totally (not just around it like usual...), or climbing under the bed to clear the dust. Getting a window cleaner in to do inside and outside windows. That sort of thing. The big jobs, to really get any dust that I don't bother with the rest of the time.
Annoying, unseen areas like washing the inside of the toothbrush jar, or my makeup brush jar. Washing bathroom walls down. I definitely don't do that during every bathroom clean! Tbh it's been months since I last did and they still look pristine anyway - I ran my hands over them yesterday and there isn't any dirt or grime build up.

Sunshinealligator · 10/11/2021 14:14

2/3 times a year.
I've just spent 2 days cleaning the 3 floors of my house for the carpet cleaner to come.
Another 4/5 hours of scrubbing to do then probably about 4 days of painting will be required, but in my defence Covid has meant we've knocked around the house a lot more than would be usual, and we've got a big ole dog who runs at the walls, so painting the house is a never ending job here. It's the slobber that's the killer. To be fair, that's most of the stuff I need to clear, where the snobbery fuck has got slobber.

hulahooper2 · 10/11/2021 14:38

I’m on a fb group and someone cleans their house from top to bottom every day , apart from the day the cleaners come …I smell porkie pies

mewe3 · 10/11/2021 14:44

I clean once a week - hoover and steam and polish surfaces, bathroom kitchen, bedsheets etc. But that's it, every now and again I pull out sofas and beds

ilovechocolate07 · 10/11/2021 17:29

Every time I move which so far has been every 6 years or so.

restingbitchface30 · 10/11/2021 17:39

Never! I clean once a week, takes a couple of hours. Hoover the whole house, mop, wipe all the sides down, scrub the bathroom and kitchen. Asides from that i hoover the living room every day and keep the kitchen clean. Me and my fella work full time. We don’t have the energy or time to do more than this. I can’t remember the last time I cleaned all my kitchen cupboards or oven. I don’t care!!

samsmum2 · 10/11/2021 17:40

Never.

yellowflowersintherain · 10/11/2021 17:42

I actually think of myself as fairly house proud but I never do this.

Leftbutcameback · 10/11/2021 17:46

Hoovering frequently helps everything else feel clean I think. As does having hard flooring. Eufy goes round frequently, a cleaner for two hours once a fortnight, and I hoover the very limited carpets most days. I have to say I do think the paint needs touching up but never get round to it.

ginforever · 10/11/2021 17:48

“I also spent at least an hour cleaning every day without the bigger jobs such as changing beds, cleaning blinds/windows etc.“

Do you really do this EVERY day ??

Blimey, try finding a hobby maybe ? Get a life.. cleaning is not priority before having a life and enjoying your place … sorry!
With time you learn … deep clean, once a year…when is sunny and amazing weather outside …
But you are making a slave of yourself.. relax

pinkpirlie · 10/11/2021 17:48

This thread has made my day. I always thought everyone was really clean and it was just me who couldn't be arsed. I barely did any cleaning before we got a cleaner, only really if someone was coming over. Other than hoovering every couple of weeks, and keeping kitchen/bathroom clean.

Hahhahaha love this 😉😂
