How often do you deep clean your house all the way through?

Firstly, AIBU to be totally fed up of cleaning?!
My house is not a tip (I don't think!) but I have just spent 2 whole days cleaning it from top to bottom and it's still not finished. Twice a year I usually deep clean all the way through- things such as touch up paint, clean rugs/sofa/carpet with a professional carpet cleaner, scrub the whites around the windows, pull beds/furniture out and clean behind. I also spent at least an hour cleaning every day without the bigger jobs such as changing beds, cleaning blinds/windows etc. It honestly feels like a complete never ending task. Me and DH have been cleaning for the last two days in preparation for Christmas (last bit of annual leave before we put our tree up). I really wish I had a cleaner.

I do a good deep clean in a room each weekly two generally
Where I will get down and my knees with the hand held vacuum and get all the dust and crap
Floors are mopped / vacuumed most days as I have a dog
We have these white gloss banisters that pick up every single handprint so I make sure these are cleaned every other day skirting once a week
Bedding once a week wash and put on fresh bedding
Bathroom I clean it /wipe the shower it each time I use the shower

Mop the bathroom floor every other day
Kitchen I hate Leaving dishes in the sink and stuff on the counters so gets wiped and cleaned most days
It sounds like I’m always cleaning but because I keep on top of it it takes very little time

beachtosunset · 10/11/2021 03:23

@fleurbelle

I like to clean the skirting with my fluffy sock clad foot and inspecting the dust ratio in different rooms. Plus it doesn't hurt my back.
@fleurbelle Grin

Now - i like this. You should send this in to Kim and Aggy.

JennyForeigner · 10/11/2021 03:35

@godmum56

never while my arse points south
Howling
beachtosunset · 10/11/2021 03:40

i just fling it out and buy a new one

1forAll74 · 10/11/2021 03:41

I spend too much time. hoovering up cat hairs all over,, and wiping 12 muddy cat paw marks off the kitchen floor, (three cats) and maybe sweeping a few dead mice up. Deep cleaning is not a term I ever use,!!

BurnedToast · 10/11/2021 04:45

Never. I clean for 30 minutes a day that's it.

User527294627 · 10/11/2021 06:05

I never do what you describe. I have cleaners once a week and I keep on top of wiping things down and sweeping the kitchen floor as needed in between.

holidaynearlyover · 10/11/2021 06:33

@violetbunny

Wait, you spend an hour a day cleaning your house? Do you live in a mansion?

We never go through and do a big deep clean like you in one go. But I do try to tackle jobs that don't get don't very much on a regular basis. So once a week I will for example, pick out a cupboard that hasn't been cleared in a while and throw away anything from it that we don't need.

Paint touch ups would be done maybe once a year, unless there was something really obvious that needed seeing to.

But surely most do if you are loading/unloading the dishwasher, putting on or away some washing? Tidying a few bits left around? An hour goes quickly
chocolateorangeinhaler · 10/11/2021 06:47

Never. I might have a mad moment once in a decade where I'll pull the fridge and washing machine out and clan behind them but that's it.
Otherwise nothing gets a deep clean until a room is decorated.

Yusanaim · 10/11/2021 06:55

I do things like skirting boards when I notice they are needing it. I like my cleaning to be rewarding so there is a difference afterwards.
Cleaned inside of the bedroom windows yesterday - they collect finger and nose prints and do look better (once a year job). I noticed thick dust under the book case when doing my yoga exercises - that's a once in a blue moon job.

Heidib00 · 10/11/2021 07:16

With multiple pets and 3 kids, a husband with a mucky job etc I find that things like the whites round the windows etc get cleaned regularly anyway. Same with doors, walls etc. I’ll wipe an obviously dirty mark off which then leaves a clean streak and shames me into cleaning the rest. I always plan to deep clean a room a week so that nothing builds up however this rarely happens so it tends to be when stuff is pulled out before decorating etc. I did clean the skirtings and behind the radiators etc the other day throughout the house but only because the plumber was coming round

Platax · 10/11/2021 07:36

I do hope all these frequent deep cleaners aren’t buggering the environment by using lots of chemicals.

TiddyTidTwo · 10/11/2021 07:37

Often and as I go. I live in a very small cottage to be fair though so I clean the whole house most days then add a job on each time - half an hour a day I reckon

lpchill · 10/11/2021 07:46

We do a deep clean twice a year that always happens just before a state visit (MIL visit) I spread it over a few weeks but it includes things like washing curtains, paint touch ups, cleaning grout on kitchen floor and cleaning doors and trims.

FlipFlops4Me · 10/11/2021 07:48

@ghejxodn

Argh maybe I'm the crazy one! But does it not get really dirty if you don't clean? An hour a day isn't much when you think of dishwasher/bathroom/making beds/sweeping/mopping etc?
I agree. I'm having my early morning coffee and I've already got the laundry sorted, emptied the dishwasher, sorted out the ingredients for a slow cooker dinner, dried the dogs, got some wet things into the tumbledrier, made the beds, tidied the bathroom and bedroom.

Later I need to hoover, cook, deal with laundry, empty waste bins, sort the recycling, clean the kitchen floor, wipe the kitchen surfaces down etc etc

And I tend to think of myself as a slut as far as housework goes....

Siameasy · 10/11/2021 07:56

Never. I just tidy and clean as I go. I have far better things to do.

Wagglerock · 10/11/2021 08:01

I have never looked at my picture rails and thought "you look mucky". Nope.

I just do little and often every day but I'd never deep clean the whole thing unless I was selling. There's good stuff to watch on TV you know?!

Londonnight · 10/11/2021 08:01

Never.

BunsOfAnarchy · 10/11/2021 08:01

You've got it all wrong OP.
Get a cleaner for the deep clean. Then sit in bed with a martini glass avec husband and enjoy your days off before Xmas whilst someone else does it for you!
I think I'd lose my marbles if I spent 2 days doing it!

ohtwatbollocks · 10/11/2021 08:15

I try to deep clean a room a month. Trying to do more than that at the moment but we're about to move and I don't want to leave things unfinished or dirty for people that live here after us.

TheCreamCaker · 10/11/2021 08:35

Never. I clean the downstairs (open plan lounge/diner), kitchen, utility and toilet every day. Upstairs - 3 bedrooms, stairs, landing, once a week. Bathroom - a wipe round daily.

I certainly wouldn't spend 2 days cleaning.

imisscashmere · 10/11/2021 08:53

Not never, but extremely infrequently. I’ll e.g. suddenly freak out about dust and get DH to pull out all the living room furniture. Once a year?

Heartsandroses · 10/11/2021 10:30

Our house-we keep it clean as we go
Bedding washed once a week,hoover maybe twice etc
My adult kids-my son shampoos his carpet every month and his girlfriend deep cleand once a week
The others do the same about the same give or take a few weeks
Life is too short to wait for carpets to dry

Wombat49 · 10/11/2021 10:50

I probably should nc for this but I've washed my kitchen floors twice since it was installed 2 years ago. I picked mud-brown oak Amtico & it never looks bad, so I'm never prompted to mop...

Got dogs, so washed the previous white vinyl endlessly. Keep my worktops & anything to do with food very clean but it's a big house & if I wanted show home standards, I'd have to clean all day, every day.

Bouledeneige · 10/11/2021 10:51

My DC are both at uni most of the time so it's just me and I tidy as I go. I probably Hoover once every two weeks, dust and mop then too. Empty bins and clean the main bathroom once a week. Kitchen is kept clean most of the time and sweep floors every few days. I never do a deep clean of the whole place in one go.
