How often do you deep clean your house all the way through?

Firstly, AIBU to be totally fed up of cleaning?!
My house is not a tip (I don't think!) but I have just spent 2 whole days cleaning it from top to bottom and it's still not finished. Twice a year I usually deep clean all the way through- things such as touch up paint, clean rugs/sofa/carpet with a professional carpet cleaner, scrub the whites around the windows, pull beds/furniture out and clean behind. I also spent at least an hour cleaning every day without the bigger jobs such as changing beds, cleaning blinds/windows etc. It honestly feels like a complete never ending task. Me and DH have been cleaning for the last two days in preparation for Christmas (last bit of annual leave before we put our tree up). I really wish I had a cleaner.

@BoredZelda

I still don’t really get what deep cleaning means?

Moving furniture to clean under/ behind it. Taking down curtains to wash, cleaning carpets, soft furniture. Proper cleaning of grouting, cleaning the tops and inside of the kitchen cabinets, proper clean of the fridge (shelves out etc)

Bloody hell!

No, never.

lljkk · 09/11/2021 23:00

I appreciate very clean houses...but I don't live in one. I also don't relax in them.

stayathomer · 09/11/2021 23:00

When I'm panicking because someone with an eternally clean house is coming to stay, or when I'm feeling like the worst mother ever so a few times a year. Op I'm so with you, you clean and clean and still nothing changes. I amn't a good cleaner, dh is fantastic but we can't keep on top of it at all.

stealingbeauty · 09/11/2021 23:01

I don’t do this.

I sometimes deep clean an individual room, but I never deep clean the entire house in one go (or even within the same week/month).

DameMaureen · 09/11/2021 23:01

It would take much longer than two days to do a deep clean surely @ghejxodn? In answer , never but thinking about getting someone in to do it maybe every 6 months or so.

Inmypjsagain · 09/11/2021 23:05

People saying never… without wanting to sound really daft, but for example, cleaning the inside of the fridge or the inside of a cupboard, even if you’ve not done the whole kitchen or fridge in one go as part of deep clean, a shelf will have been cleaned at some point, right? Ditto skirting boards?

Kite22 · 09/11/2021 23:14

In answer to your title question, I was going to say "When I move house", but, having read your opening post, the answer is now "never".

That is ludicrous.

Plus, if you are both out working all the time, how is it getting so messy / dirty that you think you need to do even a fraction of all that cleaning ? Confused

MrsToothyBitch · 09/11/2021 23:24

This thread has got me googling robot mops now. The reason I don't do the kitchen floor that much is because it's a pain waiting for the bloody mop to dry!

Classica · 09/11/2021 23:25

Daily window cleaning? Even the windows think that's excessive.

StrongbutTired00 · 09/11/2021 23:29

I would deep clean one or two rooms at once, not the full house. Massive deep clean such as washing blinds, curtains, sofas etc about once a year. An hour a day cleaning is perfectly normal, takes me about an hour just to wash dishes and Hoover up after I’ve had 3 or 4 sit downs in between, had a cuppa and scrolled on my phone Shock

HoppingPavlova · 09/11/2021 23:30

Generally once a year but that doesn’t include things like parent by touch ups because that is not within scope of ‘dirty’. Cosmetic touch ups only ever done when it comes to selling/moving out.

PollyWobbles · 09/11/2021 23:34

Every few months I suppose. I do the fridge every fortnight and I clean my skirting boards all over house once a month. My robot hoover goes under beds cleaning but I pull the beds away from wall twice a year to dust and hoover

Windows I do every month. I dust up high once a week or so.

Bathrooms I do daily with a deeper clean weekly and I hoover most days - easy to do with a hand held dyson or the robot. Kitchen cleaned each day.

4 bed house, 3 bathrooms. Takes me an hour a day or so. I work for myself from home and I have time.

I feel better knowing my house is fresh and clean and tidy.

NotMyCat · 09/11/2021 23:34

Never. I do 30 mins a day during the week and nothing but laundry/washing up/wiping kitchen on a weekend
People have commented the place is tidy and nobody has refused a brew so that'll do me Grin
It's clean enough that there's nothing mouldering away and just untidy enough to feel comfortable

GrabTheDayByTheBalls · 09/11/2021 23:36

Maybe every 2 or 3 months. Probably closer to 3. Pull out furniture to hoover. Except dds wardrobe as it's too heavy.

Windows get cleaned everytime widow cleaner been so 6 weekly. But it's quick spray and squeegy round.

When myself or dh hoover top to bottom twice a week we quickly. Whip round the skirting / tops of door frames. Etc. It's minutes to do when already hoovering.

Kitchen cupboards clean out and other drawers etc is prob 3 monthly.

But believe it or not. Our house is far from gleaming. It constantly has kids mess, dirt and toys. Grubby marks etc.

NotMyCat · 09/11/2021 23:38

@BoredZelda

I don't even understand how making the bed is a thing if use a duvet. You just put the duvet on the bed. It's not like the time of multiple sheets and blankets.

Straightening the bottom sheet, fluffing the pillows and the duvet then folding it back to let the bed air. Keeps the bedding nicer and fresher for longer. If I don’t do this every day, I struggle to get to the end of the week bedding change.

I do that as I get out of bed Sit up, fold duvet back, get out of bed and straighten bottom sheet, flip pillows so they're stood on their sides to air and done! Then when I go to bed I flip the pillows down and fold the duvet back over the bed
hamsterchump · 09/11/2021 23:42

@Planderaccordement You clean your windows daily?!

hamsterchump · 09/11/2021 23:46

I have something to confess..............................................…............I've never cleaned the inside of my oven in over 10 years. I can't be the only one though surely?

NotMyCat · 09/11/2021 23:51

Pay someone I hate cleaning the oven. I pay a lovely man who turns up, makes it all shiny and new including the hob, no chemical smells , I give him £40 and we are both happy. He also does small repairs and changes the bulb etc Like to call it supporting local businesses Grin I need to book him actually...
RosesAndHellebores · 10/11/2021 00:06

I agree @NotMyCat paying someone to clean the oven is fantastic. I also pay someone to clean the bins once a year. However, I'm nonplussed by all these people saying they wash curtains once a year or more often. I don't think I've ever had a washable curtain. When we decorate they get dry cleaned so about every 7 years. For the big bays a specialist dry cleaner takes them down and rehangs them. I couldn't carry or manage to take down an interlined curtain whilst balancing on a ladder.

StormBaby · 10/11/2021 00:08

@ghejxodn I do it every six months, like you, a massive deep clean. Obviously daily/weekly things get done like hoovering and bathrooms, but it’s still always messy and lived in. How do people get away with never doing a deep clean?

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 10/11/2021 00:09

Huh?

RockinHorseShit · 10/11/2021 00:13

I opened this thread expecting to be shamed👀.

I think I've found my people Grin

Never, life's too short. Though we will do odd rooms from time to time as they need doing

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 10/11/2021 00:18

We did this in lockdown, out of pure boredom! Otherwise we just keep on top of stuff - dishwasher run every two days, floors swept daily, hoovering and polishing weekly, laundry has set days for particular things, bathroom twice a week, kitchen wiped down daily.

We’d do a massive all in one blitz if we had people coming round but I wouldn’t see it as a “deep clean”.

haveagohero · 10/11/2021 01:01

Every week. But I realise my job has ruined me

Cheeseplantboots · 10/11/2021 01:06

I do a room at a time like moving furniture etc. I agree it’s a never ending task. I clean about 2 hours a day but it’s a big dusty house and there always seems something needs doing.
