In a local mums group with lots of lovely mums.
We often post if we have toys/clothes to give free, that the children have grown out of.
Just recently I’m noticing more and more that when toys/clothes are posted, the same few mums get it there first.
They are mums that don’t work (don’t need to) and live in million pound houses and clearly don’t need to worry.
It just seems a little unfair that I and the more *Average mums seem to lose out, when they could buy a lot easier than we could?
I’m in a two bed flat and missed out (again) in a huge selection of toys my Ds would go crazy for. I can’t afford to buy them new and it would’ve really helped at Christmas.
Is this fair? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Sorry OP but if you want to get in first you should get organised and check your phone.

@Glassofshloer

You enjoy guzzling down multiple glasses of wine and sugar filled soft drinks with your dinner.

Haha! Someone call AA, I mean who pays for drinks in restaurants, clearly I have a problem..!

This thread just keeps on giving lol

Maybe you should, honestly you actually sound drunk right now with your ramblings about water meaning you’re robbing restaurants and should stay home and have a takeaway as well as insisting drinks are 1/3 of the bill 😂 (tip - Google proportions maths. It’ll help!)
KosherDill · 10/11/2021 10:22

@Youseethethingis

I find the concept of ‘enjoying’ savings weird, I mean they don’t hug you or love you do they No, but they do give security, peace of mind, options in life. I think alot of people would enjoy having those things.
Exactly.

I paid cash for my last new car. Have four overseas vacations booked for the next 12 months. Take excellent care of my dog. Am interviewing vendors for a kitchen re-do. Those are some ways I "enjoy" my savings. To each her own.

Simple question for you. If I go out for dinner and order a fillet steak, starter, dessert and coffee along with tap water and my bill is £65 and you go out and order 3 x£6 glasses of wine and x3 tapas dishes and your bill is £55 which one of us is the cheapskate?

Please email your answer to [email protected]

Thanks!

Glassofshloer · 10/11/2021 10:37

@Samhradh1 given she was penny pinching on a bottle of mineral water I doubt she would be ordering fillet steak tbh 🙄

You seem unable to grasp the concept of "spending money where it's worth it" and penny pinching. I'd rather have tap water and spend money elsewhere, like on the food.

Carry on completely misunderstanding though.

Glassofshloer · 10/11/2021 10:43

Why am I less likely to order steak with my wine? Than you with your cup of rain?

Sorry but you said anyone who doesn’t order several drinks when out is a cheapskate not this individual poster. It’s fine I know you can’t answer the question as you don’t understand how bills work!

Hardbackwriter · 10/11/2021 10:44

Wow, this probably the most derailed thread I've ever seen - who knew anyone could be so passionate about tap water?!

rookiemere · 10/11/2021 10:48

I know @Hardbackwriter it's an interesting discussion < albeit something I've never given much thought to> and deserves it's own thread

Agree with this.

Many of the restaurants I go to tend to bring bottles of tap water to the table for customers.
I don't drink alcohol, enjoy a fruit juice but don't want to spend all night drinking fruit juice, and would much prefer to have a nice tea or after dinner coffee than spend money on mineral water when it's either no different to tap water, or has a strange taste.

Some folk are weirdly irritated by how other people spend their money.

BoredZelda · 10/11/2021 11:07

I don’t go out to eat very often as I prefer to cook but when I do I wouldn’t consider asking for tap water unless they didn’t sell bottled.

I hate still mineral water. Where we live, tap water is much better. It is only “studenty” if you decide it is. Having worked in many restaurants, and seen many people order it, I can safely say students were among the group least likely to do it. Most places I worked provided or offered a jug of tap water for the table.

Yes, strange people would think I’m penny pinching when I order tap water with my fillet steak.

Or perhaps, concerned that those who choose it are judged as cheap and refuse to accept it can just be a preference.

BoredZelda · 10/11/2021 11:10

Yep. Especially when it is a great excuse to bash people who have done well for themselves.

Dreamstate · 10/11/2021 11:23

@glassofshloer

You choose to drink alcohol and pay lots of money for it. Your basically passing your money away.

You might as well take that £20 note you spend on drinks and flsuh it down the loo

You might judge others and call them cheapskates and laugh at them for drinking tap water but guess what they are the smartest people in the room! Why literally piss away money when you can spend it on something more meaningful.

And ill happily drink my tap water in a restaurant and if there are ppl loke you silently judging WHO CARES! I don't give a fig what strangers think.

Glassofshloer · 10/11/2021 11:29

@Dreamstate could say that about the food as well 🤷🏼‍♀️ so why do you go to restaurants at all?

For someone who doesn’t ‘give a fig’ I seem to have hit a nerve Confused

You can apply that to many things that people choose to spend their money on. Buy a steak rather than a tin of spam? You're literally shitting that money away.

ExConstance · 10/11/2021 11:40

In my experience the better off parents are the ones more happy to have secondhand articles and clothes for their children and the less well off attach more importance to having new. I remember my then boss telling the staff at work that he and his wife were sourcing second hand bikes for their children for Christmas ( he was partner in law firm) The secretaries spent fora more on their children and insisted on new.

Well food provides you with nutrition you need. Let me see, alcohol and fizzy drinks don't.

If you got did of alcohol and fizzy drinks noone is going to be malnourished but if you got rid of food you would.

It really isn't comparable. Let's face it, if you can't afford much your going to buy food over alcohol any day.
