Just seen the footage of a woman attacking a horse after a "drag hunt"
She is a primary school teacher and a member of the pony club.
Aibu to think she should lose her job over this?

I quite often see horses misbehave (including our own) but have never ever seen anyone punch or kick a horse like this woman did. Has nothing to do with disciplining it

Pearshaped20 · 10/11/2021 18:16

@FangsForTheMemory

I'm not clear about the link between being a primary school teacher and animal cruelty that you're making.
A teacher is in a position of responsibility and trust. If I found out a teacher had been violent and cruel to animal then I wouldn't want her teaching my children. If she does this in public what does she do in private. There is a known link between animal cruelty and other forms of abuse
foxlover47 · 10/11/2021 18:16

You can't mistakenly kick and punch a horse

LondonWolf · 10/11/2021 18:19

I just don’t care. If she kills herself, that’s her choice. She could have just not kicked an punched an innocent animal

Dear me. I suspect you believe yourself to be one of The Good Ones too don’t you?

wincarwoo · 10/11/2021 18:19

@Meg000

I’m not minimising her behaviour but she’s still a human with a family ect. I imagine you have never made a mistake !
I've made mistakes. Like adding up the wrong column in excel. Hitting a horse is not a mistake.
mbosnz · 10/11/2021 18:20

@Meg000

This 'mistake' was a violent assault on a helpless animal, in front of 'enemy' cameras. A complete loss of self control and temper.

I've made plenty of mistakes, including with horses. I've lived and I've learned. Now this woman is likely to learn the hard way. I feel very sorry for her family suffering the consequences of her actions.

LondonWolf · 10/11/2021 18:22

@Meg000

I actually feel sorry for this woman. Was it an over reaction yes! But should her life be ruined because of a reaction? Absolutely not!! At the end of the day the horse is fine and I don’t agree with how she handled the situation but for her life to be ruined, to receive death threats to her family including her young children and having to sell her house and move, lose her job, her livelihood to support her family? I think the whole thing has been blown out of proportion. I think people need to put this into perspective. She reacted to a potential dangerous situation the horse came lose and could of caused harm to traffic /people she was disciplining it. I do think it was possibly over the top, but can you all honestly tell me you have never told a dog off for misbehaving? I think when this poor woman could potentially harm herself due to all this hatred all those people who have been spouting vile comments will be the first to hash tag be kind bullshit! I think it shows how toxic social media can be and how awful people can be, especially considering it’s associated with hunting but that’s a debate for another time.
I agree with you and you’re brave to say it against the competitive purity of MN.

We’ve not really moved on since the days of pelting rotten vegetables at ne’r do wells in The Stocks on the village green have we?

Laurie000 · 10/11/2021 18:24

@Bagelsandbrie

Of course she should lose her job. Teachers are supposed to be kind, empathetic and caring. Anyone who treats an animal like that deserves to be punished harshly and lose their job.
@Bagelsandbrie you would think that all teachers are kind, empathetic and caring, but as a teacher I can tell you that there are many who are not. Don’t get me wrong, they’re good with the kids and I suppose that’s what that matters, but at the end of the day we’re all human and there really are some grade A a*holes out there who work in schools.

I suspect this particular teacher may end up being shamed out of her job if she isn’t sacked or encouraged to resign.

Thank you!!

mbosnz · 10/11/2021 18:30

I don't feel sorry for her, I do not condone the also lawless threats and attacks on this woman and her family. I feel very sorry for her family who are suffering such distress and upheaval as a result of her loss of control.

I most certainly do not feel glee at the possibly extreme consequences of her actions. But her actions were her own.

Derbee · 10/11/2021 18:32

can you all honestly tell me you have never told a dog off for misbehaving?

What a stupid post @Meg000. I’ve “told my dog off” but I’ve never, and would never punch, kick or slap him. Are you mad?

FreshFreesias · 10/11/2021 18:34

Imagine what she’s like when she’s on her own!
It shocked me that nobody near her intervened but I guess they all think animal abuse is OK.
Vile people.

Lookuptofind · 10/11/2021 18:34

@SW1amp thats like saying, oh the teacher murdered someone, but they can still teach!

Ridiculous

FreshFreesias · 10/11/2021 18:35

@Meg000 You sound as bad as this awful animal abuser.
Kicking and punching an innocent animal is NEVER OK.

Meg000 · 10/11/2021 18:36

Nope not mad! So that justifies all this does it??

AnkleDeep · 10/11/2021 18:37

The hysterical desire to figuratively burn this woman at the stake by some unhinged people is very disturbing.

I thought MN was more thoughtful and civilised than that. But no, it can be every bit as grubby as Twitter.

Bluntness100 · 10/11/2021 18:38

@EmeraldShamrock

I didn't know teachers had to be living saints. Not saints no, certainly not violent thugs, it has been well documented throughout history with violent crimes it starts with the defenceless victim Pets/DC/Vulnerable adults. Her loss of control and excessive smacking makes her an inappropriate teacher.
Honestly that was such a silly post I’d not have responsed. I mean because yeah you’re either a living saint or you abuse animals. Sigh,
FrankGrillosWrist · 10/11/2021 18:39

What a shame the horse didn’t kick her back.

Meg000 · 10/11/2021 18:39

And the abuse she’s receiving makes you as bad also!

Meg000 · 10/11/2021 18:41

Slight over reaction she didn’t murder the horse did she?? Hmm

LondonWolf · 10/11/2021 18:41

[quote FreshFreesias]@Meg000 You sound as bad as this awful animal abuser.

@Meg000

No you don’t Hmm

But you know that don’t you?

Derbee · 10/11/2021 18:41

Someone who can’t control their temper shouldn’t be working with children. It’s a simple concept. You kick, punch and slap a horse, why wouldn’t you lose your temper with a child and kick or slap them?

Bluntness100 · 10/11/2021 18:45

She reacted to a potential dangerous situation the horse came lose and could of caused harm to traffic /people she was disciplining it. I do think it was possibly over the top, but can you all honestly tell me you have never told a dog off for misbehaving?

This is so disturbing, I have told a dog off. Yes, I have never ever punched , slapped or kicked a dog, never mind repeatedly.

I am and always have been fully able to discipline and control both my child and animals without punching them in the head, slapping them about or kicking them in the chest, it’s deeply disturbing you’re posing in a manner that suggests that’s how you have been telling your dog off?

Is this what you’re saying? I cannot think of any other reason you’d put them as the same thing?

liveforsummer · 10/11/2021 18:47

All down to the brave brave work of hunt saboteurs.

Tbf the only other people I've ever seen treating a horse anything like this are hunt sabs

Horse racing and, by some degree, even horse 'riding' it's a form of animal abuse so....this is not that bad or surprising in any way

Any of the yards I've worked in, including racing, if I'd treated a horse in that way I'd be gone faster than my feet could touch the ground and would have had no chance of working for anyone they knew in future either. I find it surprising and bad!
