Just seen the footage of a woman attacking a horse after a "drag hunt"
She is a primary school teacher and a member of the pony club.
Aibu to think she should lose her job over this?

I really hope all the vitriolic comments on this thread are from vegetarians and vegans only. I’d like to think so but I highly doubt it. Otherwise I can only assume that the vast majority here are ok with buying into and actively supporting animal cruelty when it is behind closed doors. Double standards, much.

Accenturefire · 09/11/2021 23:22

Imagine meat-eaters being outraged at this then tucking into their steak dinner.

I genuinely don't get why some vegans/veggies do this, and I say that as a vegan and a child of two diehard animal rights activists.

They are two entirely different issues. Overt animal abuse publicised in msm will obviously garner a strong reaction. It's the same when msm run a story about the child exploitation, slavery, or war over a resource (diamonds, cobalt, lithium, etc). Once the hype dies down everyone goes back to buying their jewellery and consumer electronics without a care. As my old man loves to say "you're either a hypocrite or an arsehole" and smugly pointing out other people's hypocrisies puts you firmly in the arsehole camp.

And which one are you? 🤣

Oh get over yourself. You’re upset people are upset about animal cruelty. They should ignore any and all animal cruelty because they eat meat? Seeing overt cruelty can change people’s minds about their lifestyles.

Surely animal cruelty is a crime?

@LemonKnickers

Surely animal cruelty is a crime?
Yep. And I'm an omnivore btw.
Simonjt · 10/11/2021 06:18

It shouldn’t be a surprise that someone is violent when their hobby is abusing animals.

I wouldn’t want a hunt member teaching my son, just as I wouldn’t want a cock fighter, dog fighter or anyone else choosing to abuse animals to be around vulnerable people, be it children, those with disabilities, those needing a carer etc.

Thehop · 10/11/2021 06:22

@bellinisurge

My daughter is a regular horse rider. Being firm with a horse is one thing. Being cruel - which this is - is another. Anyone who doesn't know how to be firm without being cruel has no place near an animal. And no place near anyone vulnerable including a child.
Couldn’t agree with Bellini more
Bluntness100 · 10/11/2021 07:19

@BertramLacey

Well I've been vegetarian since my early teens and throughout my entire adult life and no, I wouldn't smack a horse around the head.

I don't like the witch hunt elements of this and think the school need to investigate what she did without taking too much notice of the baying mob. Whilst I dislike what she did, I can't help but think many people are now doing exactly what they're criticising this woman for - they are a baying mob and they are hounding her. Let justice be done but put the pitchforks down.

What? They are criticising this woman for repeatedly punching and kicking a pony.

They are doing more than criticising. They are systematically ruining her life because they can and a lot of people are nastier and more vindictive than they'd like to admit.

Her actions shocked me, but she didn't cause lasting damage to the pony who looked very well cared for. Yes, dropped by pony club and investigated by police /rspca (although their pathetic response on social media for more information was just a virtue signalling call for more vicious comments as surely they have all the information they need?). Absolutely no to this awful desperate need to ruin her life and her families life.

Strawbales · 10/11/2021 07:52

I agree @treguffin

IncompleteSenten · 10/11/2021 07:53

I don't understand the argument from some vegetarians/vegans.
If you eat meat you have no right to object to any form of animal cruelty or abuse.

So because person A eats meat, person B who believes animals should not be eaten and that it is cruel and that everyone should be against animal cruelty wants person A to be ok with cruelty to animals in any form. Confused

Surely it would make more sense for someone who objects to cruelty to animals to be agreed with rather than attacked by people who object to cruelty to animals. Instead you get well, you had sausages for dinner so you have no right to want the police to prosecute someone who got two pitbulls in a cage and made them rip each other to bits.

It seems the desire to attack meat eaters is stronger than the desire to come together to condemn an act both agree is unacceptable.

treguffin · 10/11/2021 07:56

I think the argument is that it is hypocritical to eat and benefit from the byproduct of animal cruelty (battery hens) and still want to destroy a person who smacks a horse.

AnkleDeep · 10/11/2021 07:57

I hate the MN witch hunts.

Of course she shouldn't be sacked. And neither should she and her family be getting death threats.

She behaved very badly, no doubt about it, but the baying for her blood is far, far worse.

RedHelenB · 10/11/2021 07:58

@Latte40

Because she clearly has boundary issues, temper control issues and has no problems hitting a horse in public. I wouldn't want her teaching my kids and the kids will know about it soon enough as it's in the news.

We are intelligent enough as humans in 2021 to understand that there is no correlation between physical abuse and better or improved behaviour.

Animals will only know they are being hurt in the moment and that will teach them to mistrust humans- not that they've done something to 'warrant' that. That poor horse. Sickening.

How do animals correct their young? I wouldn't hurt an animal but it's very sentimental to suggest physical punishment. doesn't improve behaviour, it obviously does in the animal woorld.

Agree totally. Some of the social media comments (not here!) are psychopathic

Yes. The desire to attack meat eaters being stronger than the desire to come together to object to an unacceptable action.

All or nothing is not a good way to get people together on an issue. It's perfectly possible to not be a vegetarian and not want a horse to be beaten and abused. Surely vegetarians and vegans would want everyone to object to that?

She should be sacked - she should go to prison.

Agree with you about the death threats though.

Personally I believe she absolutely has to be sacked. Those kids will know what their teacher is and what she did. There is no way for her to teach young children again.
Derbee · 10/11/2021 08:16

I hope she loses her job. I wouldn’t want a violent abuser anywhere near my children, never mind teaching my children.

Hopefully parents are currently kicking up a fuss, and the school will have no option. Nasty bitch
