Just seen the footage of a woman attacking a horse after a "drag hunt"
She is a primary school teacher and a member of the pony club.
Aibu to think she should lose her job over this?

BertramLacey. Thank you for your post which explains so well the consequences for this poor pony.

I really hope he stays in business for the kids sake.

SunshineCake1 · 09/11/2021 20:41

She has been suspended.

The video is horrible to look at. That poor horse.

Viviennemary · 09/11/2021 20:41

She was seen to have launched a violent and vicious assault on an animal. If this was a male football hooligan doing the same There would be no mercy. Just because its a posh female thug doesn't make it any better.,

RainbowTomte · 09/11/2021 20:45

Should all teachers be vegans then, or is the animal cruelty meted out to farmed animals at the slaughterhouse different to a kick and a few slaps to a horse?

But yes. Sack her.

Lockheart · 09/11/2021 20:46

@Parker231

I’ve messaged the RSPCA to ask whether she has been interviewed and reported to the police - no response yet. I hope she arrested and sentenced. I’ve no sympathy for any degree of animal abuse.
This is really none of your business. Leave the police and RSPCA alone to go through their proper processes.
mantlepiece · 09/11/2021 20:58

A male football hooligan WAS charged and sentenced to a year in prison for punching a police horse.
So there is a precedent for this abuse of a horse.

It remains to be seen however, whether the RSPCA or the police will charge her. The evidence is there in full technicolour, a number of blows were landed, as well as a kick. I think the Newcastle United supporter threw one punch.

Parker231 · 09/11/2021 21:01

@Lockheart - of course it’s my and everyone else’s business. I’m a member of the public and donator to the charity. If people don’t demand (yes I mean demand) action, nothing will happen to stop this.

Rainbowsew · 09/11/2021 21:03

@maddy68

How she treated her horse was shocking.

Her job has nothing to do with it

Actually it has everything to do with it, some jobs require people to uphold a certain level of behaviour. Public sector jobs like teaching, healthcare etc will have codes of conduct that behaviour like this will compromise even without prosecution.

Never mind the fact that that was unnecessarily cruel treatment of an animal it was also extremely aggressive regardless of what the animal had done and she didn't mind doing it in public. What would she do in private? Think how provoking small children can be to someone's patience levels, I can't imagine any of her class parents condone such behaviour or would be confident in her ability to teach their children with patience and compassion.

As a donor then you should know that the charity doesn't have any powers to prosecute anyone.

A criminal investigation is none of your business. Regardless of who you donate to.

Man who punched the police horse

Margotshypotheticaldog · 09/11/2021 21:04

Suspended from her job, husband's business boycotted, moving her family into hiding due to death threats, this is like an episode of Black mirror. I have no strong opinions about hunting one way or the other, I know it's very polarising in the UK. I mean, to disapprove of what she did seems like a reasonable response. The rage on this thread (and in other coverage I've seen) is extraordinary.

Lockheart · 09/11/2021 21:05

Fucking hell the misogynistic language on this thread gets better and better. So far we've had "stupid cow", "cunt", "stupid bitch" and many variations thereof, now we have "kick her in the minge".

BTW I was reading an article recently about a case where the rspca removed some horses from a lady, where they were being neglected (but not past saving) and almost immediately had them put to sleep. I can't remember the details or the lady's name. I'll see if I can find more on it...

XelaM · 09/11/2021 21:11

@Lockheart You are absolutely wrong. The RSPCA can and does prosecute!

Anyone can launch a private prosecution and the RSPCA often do!

That's the only sensible thing you've said on this thread

I haven’t been able to bring myself to watch it every time I see it pop up 😞 I’m a primary teacher and have a horse but definitely don’t go to hunts! Im a vegetarian and as a child I went to a pony club mock hunt, after fox hunting was banned in Scotland. They made it very clear this was in no way a real hunt due to it being banned, everyone was just to follow the people on the big horses at the front. Of course this was all a facade and it was a bloody real hunt 😞 I was devastated. Luckily I was in a completely seperate group absolutely nowhere near it but I remember even as a child being completely horrified that they’d kidded on to children this wasn’t a hunt when it clearly was all along. So that was a long way of saying she was probably at a real hunt too 🙄 Anyone who does that doesn’t respect animals at all and should be banned from owning them, doesn’t surprise me that she punched her horse, probably not the first time. Just lucky (for the poor horse) that it was caught on camera!

The RSPCA prosecute under the Animal Welfare Act. The often work with the police on these cases.

Blueskip · 09/11/2021 21:16

@Fluffycloudland77

Horsy people are reputed to be cruel in a way dog owners or cat owners aren’t and this is why.

Dhs ex used to keep horses and he said this is standard practice. Someone taught her this is how you deal with horses. No one around her seemed surprised did they?

I was more surprised she’s only 37 and looks 47.

I work with horses and this is definitely not standard practice. It's the same as watching RSPCA rescues on TV and saying "oh yes that's standard for dog owners to abuse their pets". All of the horses I have dealt with have been massively well cared for and cosseted. Most people I know who have horses prioritise their horse over a lot of other things e.g. drive old bangers so they can afford vets bills or feed or shoes. You've got to really love them to get up at 6am in winter and trudge through all the mud to look after horses.

Of course there are cruel people out there but please don't tar all horse owners with the same brush.

thisplaceisweird · 09/11/2021 21:18

If a vet punched a child wouldn't you want them sacked?

I wouldn't want someone that cruel and nasty being the person that guides my children through their development.

Redglitter · 09/11/2021 21:18

I think she deserves all she gets but I feel sorry for her husband & kids. His business is being affected and they've had to go into hiding. They're innocent parties in it I don't understand people's mentality in harming his business

Tavelo · 09/11/2021 21:20

Uncouth woman, she shouldn't be teaching let alone have kids herself.

I imagine he has the same tendencies as her. You can’t exactly be an animal lover and marry a fox hunter.
