Just seen the footage of a woman attacking a horse after a "drag hunt"
She is a primary school teacher and a member of the pony club.
Aibu to think she should lose her job over this?

@Lockheart funnily enough humans attacking animals for no reason does cause most of us to have emotive responses. Especially when these individuals are also responsible for our most vulnerable members of society.

treguffin · 09/11/2021 20:09

@julieca

And tashiewoo upthread has just confirmed what I said. This is the tip of a very big iceberg. But because they are rich, they get away with it.
She's a primary school teacher.
brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 09/11/2021 20:10

all the kids at school will start calling her «the horsepuncher» until her life there becomes intolerable

mbosnz · 09/11/2021 20:10

Horses are prey animals. They will defend themselves as the last resort.

This woman was a bully, who took out her rage on an animal that she knew bloody well would not, could not defend itself.

Having said that, death threats to the woman, and her family? Not okay.

RandomUsernameHere · 09/11/2021 20:12

Those saying she shouldn't lose her job, would you want someone like that teaching your children? I certainly wouldn't. I hate to think how she treats her horses behind closed doors, if this is how she behaves in public.

treguffin · 09/11/2021 20:12

@Bingbong21

Seeing the daily mail headline as much as I agree that she needs to face consequences the headlines and response are obscene. Her house is pictured. Turning it into a witch hunt is completely unnecessary, allow her employer, rspca and police deal with her.
This. And also men don't get treated like this.
damnthisvirusandmarriage · 09/11/2021 20:12

She deserves everything she gets. Hopefully if she has even an ounce of compassion and empathy she’ll consider how her all animal victims feel now.

IAAP · 09/11/2021 20:15

She’s been suspended. The school values and professional standards to be good role models, not being the school into disrepute etc as well as showing the highest standards of behaviour have been broken - so yes I think she will resign before pushed - but her job is gone.

Her children will be at school locally and I expect she might change her name and move - if she lived near me - she wouldn’t be lynched but no one would speak to her. Her temper is appalling to assault an animal
Tethered to her and unable to move away over ‘nothing’. She wouldn’t be teaching my child.

Singinginshower · 09/11/2021 20:15

What she did was abhorrent, and should be addressed through the courts.
However, her own children will be suffering throughout this. I hope they have support.

treguffin · 09/11/2021 20:15

I feel really sorry for her kids.

ItsDisneyBitch · 09/11/2021 20:16

Well I’ve just seen on Facebook that her husband is a plumber and the latest post is his business should be boycotted.

Absolutely she should lose her job, however do people not realise that if both their parents lose their jobs the whole family including the children are likely to be affected?

LidlMiddleLover · 09/11/2021 20:16

Why anybody is suprised at a hunter treating an animal that way i have
No idea they are entitled and arrogant and don’t care about animals

Yes she should lose her job as a teacher she should be professional even out of her work

liveforsummer · 09/11/2021 20:17

I've ridden all my life and worked with horses, including racehorses and point to pointers, the latter who needed to hunt to qualify to race. We had a drag hunt locally to qualify our horses before the ban although I've witnessed traditional hunting too being from a rural horsey background. I can honestly say I've never seen anyone treat a horse like that, ever. Absolutely disgusting and I don't care if she loses her job!

treguffin · 09/11/2021 20:17

That is horrible and the people frothing and stoking this fire are more frightening than she is tbh.

Clymene · 09/11/2021 20:21

It really is @Lockheart. Animals aren't just physical characteristics, behaviour comes into it.

Tilltheend99 · 09/11/2021 20:22

@SW1amp

How does it affect her ability to teach children?
Animal abuse is against the law and teachers need to be CRB checked.
5keletor · 09/11/2021 20:23

Boycotting her husband's business is taking it too far. She absolutely deserves to lose her job and I imagine she'll be shunned by her community, which is her own doing and also deserved. Death threats and trying to destroy her family members' livelihoods isn't on, imo and any death threats will, I hope, be taken seriously by the police.

AuntMargo · 09/11/2021 20:23

@PWYP76

Hmm, so, you're all tucking into your steak while, simultaneously, being 'outraged' at someone caught being cruel to an animal..

While she's a monster, some of you get other monsters to do your work for you, so that you can have your steak on a plate!

And you can argue until the cows (or horses) come home. And you'll start getting angry and denying and minimising and attacking, but you still know.

It's embarrassing.

Knew there would have to be this at some point !!!!
userxx · 09/11/2021 20:24

I really hope she loses her job, someone who takes their frustration out in a violent manner should not be around children. I despise people who abuse animals and would happily give her a taste of her own medicine. Just for the record, I don't work with children.

User527294627 · 09/11/2021 20:24

Let's stick to the facts and not be ridiculously emotive. Horses are hundreds of kilos of muscle, hooves, and teeth. Defenceless they are not!

This is a pretty fundamental misunderstanding of horses. They're not at all aggressive animals, even in their own defence. They have a strong flight instinct - their defence is to run away. Very few horses would fight back when attacked, so their teeth and hooves aren't particularly helpful.

Horses are some of the most commonly abused animals worldwide because of their biddability and lack of aggression. It's very rare for even very badly abused horses to attack people.

julieca · 09/11/2021 20:28

@treguffin so what. She does not keep a horse on a teaching wage. She may have an earning partner and/or inheritances.

liveforsummer · 09/11/2021 20:34

Because the horse in the video really looked like it was fighting back Hmm. Maybe if she was doing the same to a wild mustang stallion but domestic horses pretty much are defenceless by nature.

BertramLacey · 09/11/2021 20:34

The slaps are horrible to see but the pony was probably not actually hurt by them.

They would have been. 101 of horse training is that you do not hit a horse around the head, ever. It's of no use from a training point of view but will make them head shy. Their muzzles are incredibly sensitive and packed full of nerve endings. They also have whiskers on their muzzles and whiskers have a part of the brain dedicated to processing the information they send. Horses can detect changes in air current and react accordingly from the information they receive in this way.

A horse cannot see in front of its nose and yet can detect different types of vegetation to eat from the touch alone. Horses use their muzzles to communicate via touch. It's one of the most sensitive parts of the body. Whacking a horse around the muzzle is like smacking you around the nose or mouth. This horse will have experienced physical pain and mental distress. Bear in mind that as prey animals they are good at hiding pain but you can see from the horse's reaction that it is stressed and upset.

Parker231 · 09/11/2021 20:37

I’ve messaged the RSPCA to ask whether she has been interviewed and reported to the police - no response yet. I hope she arrested and sentenced. I’ve no sympathy for any degree of animal abuse.
