Just seen the footage of a woman attacking a horse after a "drag hunt"
She is a primary school teacher and a member of the pony club.
Aibu to think she should lose her job over this?

I would not want someone like her looking after my children. Someone who can hurt a poor, defenseless animal should not be around children.

A580Hojas · 09/11/2021 19:55

I think her job has nothing to do with it and anyone who treats an animal like that should be prosecuted. Horrible to witness, so glad someone filmed it - times like this when smart phones are a blessing.

ChargingBuck · 09/11/2021 19:55

@FangsForTheMemory

I'm not clear about the link between being a primary school teacher and animal cruelty that you're making.
Don't worry @FangsForTheMemory, you don't need to be, as the experts are of course a step ahead of you - www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/in-excess/201611/the-psychology-animal-torture

There's clarity for you.
Unless you don't mind kids being under the charge of someone who may have tendencies toward the "Homicidal Triad"?

supremelybaffled · 09/11/2021 19:57

@workshy44

It was obviously appalling but she is going to lose everything over this, perhaps it was a once off loss of control, who knows She will lose her job, just been suspended and she has been kicked out of the pony club which was presumably her social life She will be a complete pariah - can't help but feel pity for her
I don't feel pity for people who are cruel to horses.
ikeepseeingit · 09/11/2021 19:58

Any person that can hit an animal like that out of sheer anger is not safe to be around children IMO. That was disgusting to watch, how dare she? I hope the law has some means of coming down on her for this. I feel terribly sorry for her children, I'm sure she's an angry parent to be around, she clearly doesn't have much patience or empathy. That poor horse :(

IncompleteSenten · 09/11/2021 19:59

@SerendipityJane

Not sure why this is even noteworthy. People who hunt foxes are cunts - weather to follow.
Well, quite. I see them no differently to the blokes who set up pitbull fights for example. Anyone who enjoys seeing animals being hurt and killed is disgusting.

My money is on her being outraged that she was videoed then making some ridiculous statement about how out of character it was and how sorry she is followed by some sob story of terrible stress she was going through that led her to do this thing she now feels dreadful about because it got recorded. There'll be a bit about her past good deeds with horses and someone will back her up saying she sings sick ponies to sleep and gives them hoof massages and this was temporary insanity caused by Super Big Stress Thing.

Then she'll go back to being pissed off that the plebs dared to film her and it'll be their fault for filming not her fault for abusing that horse.

Waitrosedarling · 09/11/2021 20:00

@Gin4thewin4

Stupid bitch.

She wouldn't do that to someone who could fight back. COWARD Angry

Wow I thought I had accidentally ended up on the Daily Mail comments section...
BeagleBeagled · 09/11/2021 20:01

So grateful for sabs and hunt monitors.

Lockheart · 09/11/2021 20:01

Let's stick to the facts and not be ridiculously emotive. Horses are hundreds of kilos of muscle, hooves, and teeth. Defenceless they are not!
tsmainsqueeze · 09/11/2021 20:02

I hate hunting and hunters with a passion ,i also agree that some of the saboteurs are quite unsavoury characters, but my main thoughts are about her behaviour as an individual .
Someone mentioned the venom in her face , i too saw that.
I would not want someone that can show such malice to an animal anywhere near my child .
No way should her family be threatened , but i don't think she will or should be able to keep her job ,i think teaching is one of those careers where what you do in your private life impacts on your work life whether you like it or not .

TheFairyCaravan · 09/11/2021 20:02

@LakieLady I honestly don’t know who took the video however I’ve seen posts saying the people on the quad bike are locals who go out with the hunt.
@Lockheart ah that's okay then let's kick and slap any animal. Bore off
Yes you're totally right, that's exactly what I said.

ChargingBuck · 09/11/2021 20:04

Not taking your bet @@IncompleteSenten - insightful analysis, reckon I'd lose.

Clymene · 09/11/2021 20:04

That's as pointless as saying a woman who is beaten up can defend herself if she chooses @Lockheart

AuntMargo · 09/11/2021 20:05

@maddy68

How she treated her horse was shocking.

Her job has nothing to do with it

Are you people for real !! Do you really think a person with so little regard for causing pain and suffering to an innocent animal is suitable to be working with children !! What sort of person are you i wonder???
5keletor · 09/11/2021 20:05

@BeagleBeagled

Same, I see what the ones around here put up with (we have a few local hunts unfortunately and a high proportion of them are basically thugs in tweed) and am thankful that they still go out to protect our foxes and badgers.
Danja2010 · 09/11/2021 20:05

@TashieWoo

I agree *@treguffin* - trial by social media is always wrong.

Hunt saboteurs and animal rights protesters are often pretty unpleasant and ignorant individuals (I used to know some and when it comes to people they seem to be morally bankrupt) and she doesn’t deserve death threats, and I’m on the fence about whether her job should be in danger - I think that is down to the nature of her profession and the fact it has become so big, as PP have said.

I have horses and with one of mine I have to be firmer than I would like to sometimes in order to keep myself safe (he is a work in progress and I am pregnant so I have more of a need to protect myself at the moment), but I don’t hit him. What she did was undoubtedly wrong, but I see worse on the yard where I keep my horses, most days actually. Lots of shouting and hitting for no reason, I switch off from it now, each to their own and you can’t argue with stupid. It doesn’t make it right but really the RSPCA and authorities have more important cases to be worrying about.

Right : without hunt saboteurs there would be no justice to the hunts and the vile practices like throwing fox Cubs live to their hounds as part of training…and you audaciously call them unpleasant?!! I think the most people here on this thread find this case VERY important ! I can imagine you turn your head when you see abhorrent practices. Thank goodness the RSPCA is taking an interest as it rightly should !
damnthisvirusandmarriage · 09/11/2021 20:06

Yes she should lose her job.

Scientifically it has been proven that positively reinforcing behaviour is all round better and makes learning easier and solidifies behaviour. And that punishment doesn’t and punishment has an overall negative effect on the learner. Same with animals. It would ring MASSIVE alarm bells if any teacher I knew of thought it was ok to show any act of violence toward an animal.

And she hunts for sport. Jesus. Someone with a mind as hungry as hers for blood soaked violence shouldn’t be teaching our young.

When did she do her teacher training? 1066?? Cunt.

Bingbong21 · 09/11/2021 20:06

Seeing the daily mail headline as much as I agree that she needs to face consequences the headlines and response are obscene. Her house is pictured. Turning it into a witch hunt is completely unnecessary, allow her employer, rspca and police deal with her.

Mummylewi · 09/11/2021 20:06

@Clymene exactly, a horse is unlikely to attack you back and more likely to bolt. Considering it couldn't run at that time, it was pretty defenseless.

julieca · 09/11/2021 20:06

There have always been some hunting people who treat their horses like this. Some have zero compassion for any animal. Its not the first time I have seen behaviour like this, the difference is this has been filmed so can't be covered up like they normally do.

Lockheart · 09/11/2021 20:07

@Clymene

That's as pointless as saying a woman who is beaten up can defend herself if she chooses *@Lockheart*
It's not pointless. This thread is off the rails with people getting angry enough already. Let's not start getting hyperbolic and stick to the facts.
SpeckledlyHen · 09/11/2021 20:07

@Evesgarden

I wish this would stop.

No she shouldn't lose her job. She will absolutely vilified for what she did - face splashed all over the media, hordes of people attacking her on line.

What she did wasn't good. But neither is this incessant need to publicly destroy people. Its hideous

I wish the abuse of animals would stop too. What she did was hideous. She deserves everything she got. I am not normally so vocal on these matters but watching her anger and venom as she slapped that innocent pony round the face will haunt me forever. It isn't a case of "wasn't good". She was a role model and part of the Pony Club FFS.. I doubt they are wearing that badge with pride today.
julieca · 09/11/2021 20:08

And tashiewoo upthread has just confirmed what I said. This is the tip of a very big iceberg. But because they are rich, they get away with it.
