Go to A&E?

Sorry, I know this isn’t an AIBU and these threads are really annoying, but I’m home alone and can’t figure out whether to go to A&E or stay at home until DH and kids are home later tonight and reassess.

I’ve fainted three times today.

Firstly in the shower this morning, but managed to sit on the bathroom floor before I fell down. Thought maybe I just got up too quickly this morning, low blood pressure etc.

Then it happened again a couple of hours later in the kitchen. Fell to the floor, hurt my hip, think I was only unconscious for less than a minute.

Finally, it happened about an hour ago. More scary this time, as I don’t remember it happening, but woke up in my hallway feeling bruised as if I’d fallen. Think I was only out for a minute or two.

This is really odd. Never happened before. No underlying health conditions, although I feel like I might have a mild UTI today.

I felt dire with a kidney infection, also faint and dizzy. I have never felt so ill and it took a few weeks to recover so make sure you take it easy now.

TheShadoutCrepes · 07/11/2021 13:21

Thanks for the update OP. Good to hear that the cause has been identified and you’re on the path to recovery x

BrutusMcDogface · 07/11/2021 14:28

Ah, glad to hear you’re on the mend Flowers

SpeckledyHen · 07/11/2021 14:41

Good news OP . Glad you are on the mend.

TimeForTheChristmasTree · 07/11/2021 14:58

I have an awful thought that the people who say that you shouldn't go to A&E when it's obvious they should are unfortunately some sort of troll. I think they do it to derail a thread and get posters to focus on their post and not the OP. They seek a reaction and feed off the amount of times someone responds angrily naming them. There are some very psychologically ill people out there.

OP I'm so pleased you're on the mend. What a relief for you.

@Derbee

Not specifically, just sick of A&E bursting at the seams with people who don’t need to be there
That's no excuse for giving inappropriate and unhelpful messages like you did.

This is the second post I have read within 5 minutes on MN where the poster is describing a very concerning situation, which does warrant quick medical assistance - in this instance, also backed up by a 111 call who called an ambulance - and a random poster tells them a& e would be wrong.

By advising someone not to get appropriate medical help you are potentially putting their life, and at very least health, at risk.

Re a&e being full - that's when people are going for scratches, a small cut, etc. not for when someone is fainting and becoming unconscious, with no known reason and has never fainted before in their life!

Tiddlypompadour · 07/11/2021 19:05

I’m really cross my post was deleted for highlighting how dangerous and stupid the post saying it was completely inappropriate to attend A&E, was.

'By advising someone not to get appropriate medical help you are potentially putting their life, and at very least health, at risk.'

The pp wasn't saying this, rather A&E isn't always 'appropriate medical care'. In this instance 111 told her to go to a&e as she said she'd lost consciousness 3 times but generally a family member taking you to out of hours GP is perfectly adequate and 'appropriate medical care', where they too will check BP and prescribe antibiotics.

Actually that PP had also said 'No, A&E would be completely inappropriate' in answer to the OP so I think it was perfectly clear what they meant.

I hate people telling people they're packing up a and e, on mn and Facebook uou regularly see people saying they don't want to clog up the system. My uncle went to a gp when he was having a heart attack as he wasn't sure his chest issues weren't something small. I have heard countless tales of people being afraid their children and babies weren't serious enough for a and e only to have blood tests done and be put on drips when they were seen All that has happened is that the average person is afraid or feels guilty about going to the hospital. Most people don't go lightly
