Go to A&E?

Sorry, I know this isn’t an AIBU and these threads are really annoying, but I’m home alone and can’t figure out whether to go to A&E or stay at home until DH and kids are home later tonight and reassess.

I’ve fainted three times today.

Firstly in the shower this morning, but managed to sit on the bathroom floor before I fell down. Thought maybe I just got up too quickly this morning, low blood pressure etc.

Then it happened again a couple of hours later in the kitchen. Fell to the floor, hurt my hip, think I was only unconscious for less than a minute.

Finally, it happened about an hour ago. More scary this time, as I don’t remember it happening, but woke up in my hallway feeling bruised as if I’d fallen. Think I was only out for a minute or two.

This is really odd. Never happened before. No underlying health conditions, although I feel like I might have a mild UTI today.

@Derbee

No, A&E would be completely inappropriate
Give suitable advice then...
AttaGirrrrl · 06/11/2021 17:04

I hope 111 are helpful.

Zzzexhaustedzzz · 06/11/2021 17:05

Sounds scary. No matter what 111 says I think you should be assessed properly in A and E.

How?!
RoxOff · 06/11/2021 17:07

111 are sending an ambulance.

Thank you so much and apologies for being a bit of a dimwit asking on here…I just couldn’t decide whether to be worried or just go to bed and reassess in the morning. Thanks again x

Let us know how you get on, take care OP

Moonshine11 · 06/11/2021 17:08

Take care op.
Sometimes we just need told what to do when things are abit scary Thanks

mummyh2016 · 06/11/2021 17:08

It you're on hold to 111 for too long then I'd go to A+E if it could be a water infection. I had one a few weeks ago that spread to my kidneys because my GP didn't give me antibiotics quick enough. I ended up at A+E the next day anyway in agony to get the correct antibiotics. Only those who have never had a UTI will play it down.

You can tell from the OP’s history that this is a straight forward vaso-vagal faint can you?

Amazing!

Because if a patient told me that history I’d be wanting to take a much clearer history and do a thorough clinical exam including an ECG before ruling out all the other differentials.

Collapsing and losing consciousness 3 times with no obvious cause is not an inappropriate reason to go to A&E
123deepbreath · 06/11/2021 17:09

Paramedic here - 111 are most likely going to either say A and E or send an ambulance as you have had multiple episodes of Los of consciousness ? Cause and will at a minimum need a full set of obs and an ECG to rule out cardiac causes.

Hope it's nothing serious OP!

@Derbee

The only inappropriate thing is your advice. A&E is absolutely the right place for someone who is fainting without a known cause.

TheShadoutCrepes · 06/11/2021 17:10

Best wishes OP. Hope you get seen quickly xx

RichardMarxisinnocent · 06/11/2021 17:10

www.nhs.uk/conditions/fainting/

This is what the NHS website says about fainting. It says to see your GP if you faint and don't know why, or if you faint more than once.

mummyh2016 · 06/11/2021 17:10

Just seen your update! Hope you get seen soon, depending on how long the wait is you may be best making your own way there.

BrutusMcDogface · 06/11/2021 17:10

That sounds really scary, especially being on your own. I think you did the right thing and hope you’re ok. 💐

Ps- you always get two extremes on here when asking this question, either “don’t be silly and waste nhs time” or “omg, get to a&e right now!”

AttaGirrrrl · 06/11/2021 17:10

Go and open the door now, just in case you faint again, so that the paramedics can definitely get in.

Send a (calm) text to DH to explain what has happened so that he can explain to DC and they don’t worry if you’re not at home, or if an ambulance is there when they get back.

Pack a small bag with spare pants, phone chargers, notepad and pen in case you’re admitted.

@RoxOff - cross posted with you! Hope you're not waiting too long for a truck to come out to you!

Percypigg · 06/11/2021 17:11

@Derbee why would it be completely inappropriate? Seriously? Why?

RichardMarxisinnocent · 06/11/2021 17:13

That said, if you've been unconcious, and also didn't even realise you were going to faint the last time, getting advice from 111 seems a good idea.

Percypigg · 06/11/2021 17:13

Maybe take a book with you or headphones for your phone so that you can listen to the radio or a podcast. Phone charger, Wipes, lip balm, spare underwear and maybe a hoodie to keep you warm.

All the best Flowers

Hairyfairy01 · 06/11/2021 17:14

And this is why people should never ask such a question on here (always seek medical advice), and equally people should not be telling anyone not to go to A&E. it's just dangerous to be honest and seems to be becoming increasingly more common.
I hope you are ok OP.

sofakingcool · 06/11/2021 17:17

Hope you're ok op, must have been pretty scary

amsadandconfused · 06/11/2021 17:17

Am glad you are going to AE …it could be a cardiac arrhythmia which needs to be excluded.Good luck 💐
