Go to A&E?

Sorry, I know this isn’t an AIBU and these threads are really annoying, but I’m home alone and can’t figure out whether to go to A&E or stay at home until DH and kids are home later tonight and reassess.

I’ve fainted three times today.

Firstly in the shower this morning, but managed to sit on the bathroom floor before I fell down. Thought maybe I just got up too quickly this morning, low blood pressure etc.

Then it happened again a couple of hours later in the kitchen. Fell to the floor, hurt my hip, think I was only unconscious for less than a minute.

Finally, it happened about an hour ago. More scary this time, as I don’t remember it happening, but woke up in my hallway feeling bruised as if I’d fallen. Think I was only out for a minute or two.

This is really odd. Never happened before. No underlying health conditions, although I feel like I might have a mild UTI today.

Hope your ok op sounds scary!
@Derbee

Fainting is most certainly A&E appropriate.
It is, but triaging is likely to put her at the back of the queue (unfortunately) and I think A & E is probably not a brilliant place to be waiting.

111 is your best bet

FleetwoodRaincoat · 06/11/2021 19:55

May not apply, but a friend of mine who works in an old people's home said that one of the symptoms of Covid that some of them had was fainting/feeling faint. Can you do a test before going to A and E?

SierraJulietGolf · 06/11/2021 19:58

Glad you’re getting checked out. Absolutely the right thing to do. It can be difficult when you are unwell to know what the best thing to do is. Hope you get some answers soon.

mummymayhem18 · 06/11/2021 20:00

Hope you're ok and get some answers.

lljkk · 06/11/2021 20:00

Given the ambulance probably arrived 2 hours ago...

actually, do ambulance paramedics routinely give LFTs to all the patients they attend, nowadays? I imagine they must.

I hope OP is ok & posts a bemused update soon.

Rainallnight · 06/11/2021 20:05

Oh wow, I hope it all works out, OP. I confess I’d have been one of those saying 111/GP.

neveradullmoment99 · 06/11/2021 20:06

Sounds very scary. You are doing the right thing. It needs investigated. Hope you get to the bottom of it. Goodluck.

mumboss1984 · 06/11/2021 20:08

Hope you are ok OP

TheShadoutCrepes · 06/11/2021 20:09

With this history 111 are going to recommend urgent review by a clinician. Unexplained new onset syncope (particularly with a frequency of x3 episodes in the last 12 hours) is always going to raise concerns that the cause is cardiovascular or neurological, which cannot be excluded until a thorough history is taken by an experienced clinician with some follow up examination and investigations completed.

OOH clinicians can take the history but may not have the facilities to do rapid bloods, ECG etc.

RubyTuesday70 · 06/11/2021 20:12

DH had a random morning where he fainted 3 times........... it was diagnosed as a syncopal episode with no underlying cause.

Hope you're seen soon OP.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 06/11/2021 20:20

Actually, it also says to call 999 if person cannot be woken after a minute

OP said she is on her own so won't know if / how long she was 'out'. Nor will she know if she fitted.... hence decision by 111 to send ambulance.

stayathomer · 06/11/2021 20:32

Take care op, hope your okay.

ThirdElephant · 06/11/2021 20:34

Hope you're OK, OP. Ambulances sometimes take an absolute age so if you're still waiting and have someone who can take you in it might be worth calling 111 and asking whether you should get someone to drive you there instead.

LowlandLucky · 06/11/2021 20:38

Hope all is well

Purplewithred · 06/11/2021 20:42

@iijkk nope, ambulance crews don't do lateral flows on patients before taking them in.

ThatsNotMyReindeer · 06/11/2021 20:45

@Iljkk i took my son to A&E on the advice of 111 with a cough, temperature and breathing difficulties. In 9 hours we saw multiple nurses, and both the night and day teams of A&E doctors and paediatricians. Not once did anyone test or even ask about Covid

alexdgr8 · 06/11/2021 20:46

@Derbee

No, A&E would be completely inappropriate
what makes you say that ?
SuperbFoolish · 06/11/2021 20:47

I went to A&E last week for something that turned out to be a migraine with an aura. Never had one before. Made half of my face numb and a funny vision.
It was taken very seriously. Ran all the tests to make sure it was nothing serious.
If it's unusual, then A&E always. I'm glad you're going in.

Veox · 06/11/2021 20:50

I hope you're ok and have been examined by now OP Flowers

Lovemusic33 · 06/11/2021 20:52

You have done the right thing OP, hope you have been seen.

Crazy that people don’t think that passing out 3 times justifies a A&E visit 😬

PiffleWiffleWoozle · 06/11/2021 21:01

Hope you are OK OP. Glad you rang 111

longcoffeebreak · 06/11/2021 21:05

Hope OP is ok

Saoirse82 · 06/11/2021 21:27

@Derbee

No, A&E would be completely inappropriate
Are you a doctor with the OPs medical history?
Tiddlypompadour · 06/11/2021 22:14

Jesus, there’s always someone saying ‘have you considered it could be Covid?’ On every, single, post about health, no matter the symptoms. Drives me mad.

I hope you’re seen soon, OP, and it’s just an unexplained episode of syncope with no underlying cause.
