If someone said "mid to late morning" to you, what time would you think that was?

Making contact arrangements with ex for after Christmas (so not imminently firming up plans IYSWIM).
Told ex I would be able to drop off at a mid-way point mid-late morning.
He's now asked for a "rough time" so he can plan his departure time.

AIBU that I have already give a rough time?

Mid to late morning is 9am - 12pm for me.

It would be 8am onwards for some of my family.

My dad used to say 'the morning's half gone!' at 9am if we were heading out for the day and only managed to get ready to leave at 9am, he'd have preferred 8am.

@backtolifebacktoreality

11 to 11.30am

10 is not mid morning

If 11 is mid morning for you then morning starts at 10? So 9:30 is still night-time?

Surely 9am is first thing? It's rare to arrange to meet anyone much before 9.

But morning starts before you would normally meet someone for coffee or similar. You could easily be meeting at 8am or earlier for an early walk or run, or picking someone up for a day out that's two hours drive away. Then before that when you are getting up it's already morning. Or are people counting morning from the time they leave the house?

This is why OP needs to say a time. Fine to say between 11 & 12 (or whatever) but this vagueness means nothng.

Just because it would be rare to meet someone before 9am, that doesn't make it first thing. First thing would be when you first get up, whenever that is.

We often meet my in laws at 8am for breakfast at a local pub. They're up and dressed by 6am pretty much everyday (by choice!), so to them 9am is midway through the morning.

Well people often suggest a meeting "first thing" to me. They never mean before 9am.

I guess it depends on the context, what a person's normal routine is, the time of year and what time sunrise is.

Fot lots of hobby related meet ups, "first thing" would depend on what time sunrise is, and/or what time something opens.

If my partner was booking a tee time for golf "first thing" it would be at about 7.30am atm because that's when sunrise is. It could be 6am in the summer.

If I met my friend for a swim "first thing" before work, it would be at 6am when the pool opens.

If we were meeting for a walk on a day off, then I'd take "first thing" as anything from sunrise to 9am for one friend as she gets up early, and anything from 9am onwards (but definitely not before 9am) for a different friend who gets up later.

If we were meeting for shopping then "first thing" would be when they opened at 9am.

If I was booking an appointment at my beauty salon and asked them for an appointment "first thing", then they'd book me in for 8am because that's when they open.

OP isn't meeting her ex socially though, they're just arranging a time to meet up to drop their kids off. To me, times in the morning driving wise are:
5am onwards = first thing
6am - 7.30am = early morning
7.30 - 9.30am = rush hour (to be avoided like the plague if possible)
9.30am - 11am = mid morning
11am - 12pm = late morning

So many variables!
