So sick of the constant stupid fireworks

When will they hurry up and ban fireworks for private sale?
Have 2 dogs shivering under the sofa. Huge bangs outside. What if you have a baby in bed?
Anti social behaviour if you ask me.
Take your kids to a proper display.

We've established it's not just about pets special

@ams1210

Its really not that bad its occasions that come around once a year . Diwali is about lights so firework galore and majority if the community has babies and dogs! Also Bonfire night same shit remember it's once a year
It's been going on a month here!!! And it will go on for another 3, just like last year.

It's never just Diwali and bonfire night. Ever!!!!

Purpleseaside · 05/11/2021 20:45

One of my dogs is horrendously shaking and terrified. She's just been sick for the first time since she was a puppy (6 years ago). We live in the contryside in the middle of farms with livestock and there are still so many fireworks around.

I wish private sells were banned. It's wrong.

BasiliskStare · 05/11/2021 20:45

I rather like fireworks at a public display. Once a year Think rather nice. But equally one of my best friends went to a garden firework thing & ended up being burned in her shoulder & in A&E because chap had not done it properly - she won't go again.

Our dogs are pretty conditioned to noise so as long as not very near they are fine.

When Ds was tiny he did not like the noise - just shut all doors and closed the curtains and gave him a cuddle - but this was living near to a council display so only an hour or so. Not all night or lots of repeating nights.

november90 · 05/11/2021 20:45

@ClaudiusTheGod hahhahahahahaha. Would you like to come and speak to my 4 year old and 1 year old who are still almost 2 hours later and frightened of all the banging?!

What a comment!

Tilltheend99 · 05/11/2021 20:45

Agree. I think it should be large organised events only or if you want them for a special event like a birthday you would need a license from the council and they would have to do an assessment of how much disruption it would cause to others before granting it.

I live in a city with a river running through and each firework is like a bomb going off echoing up and down the river. I’m amazed any of the wildlife survives it.

It happened all through Euros too even though we bloomin lost!

MrsKeats · 05/11/2021 20:45

Cannot get my hard around that tigger
And yet who are they phoning when they get hurt by a bloody firework?
Absolute tossers.

OP posts:
CokeZeroAddiction · 05/11/2021 20:45

Completely agree. They started here at 5:30 and haven’t stopped.

My 9yo has come down twice to say they can’t sleep. Not really sure what I’m supposed to do about it.

I enjoy fireworks and I don’t think they should be banned… but I do think it should be planned, public displays only.

beigebrownblue · 05/11/2021 20:45

In a large space, apart from emissions which are not necessary they are not too bad.

In residential streets with Covid still on the rampage and with emergencyh services so stressed I will say

no, no and no.

It is not fair to ask the fire services to deal with the fall out of accidents right now.

Not fair.

And not fair on pets either.

Emergency services will be glad if people stay at home tonight and many less people to deal with at A and E potentially.

Where are the parents? I would like to know.

mydogisthebest · 05/11/2021 20:46

@specialsauce IT IS NOT JUST ABOUT DOGS AND CATS. Can you read? Have you read the thread?

It's about wildlife, elderly people, people with ptsd, people from war torn countries, people who lived through the war, babies, young children.

You sound utterly selfish

NigellaSeedofChucky · 05/11/2021 20:46

Luckily we've just had the one neighbour set off a few (when I was getting DS to bed :/) but I'm not surprised it was him, as he also likes to mow and strim his lawn at 730pm in the summer

If you let fireworks off in your garden , especially if you are the only one in your street doing it, Don't you feel like a bit of a nuisance? Those poor pets too.

MenopauseSucks · 05/11/2021 20:46

Here fireworks usually start at Halloween & go on until the New Year.
Dark evenings, someone wants to celebrate, set off loads of fireworks.
If it was only 5th November & maybe New Years Eve, it would be fantastic!
Meanwhile the cat is hiding under the table.

PinkWaferBiscuit · 05/11/2021 20:46

remember it's once a year

Hahaha if only. Honestly it'll be fireworks here now until at least mid January. If it was once a year people would be far more accommodating. Sadly the public displays are once a year, the private ones in Jane and John's back garden however are anything but.

Twentypast · 05/11/2021 20:46

@MyDcAreMarvel

My baby is wrapped up warm in his pram enjoying the fireworks. It’s bonfire night and it’s ok for humans to be the priority rather than animals. There are things you can do to help your dog.
What would you suggest?

I've used desensitisation videos, she's had valerian drops for the last week, she's been given doggy valium from the vet tonight and she's wrapped in a thundershirt.

She's jammed herself behind a chest of drawers and is trembling so hard the drawers are rattling. I'm worried she'll have a heart attack.

But as long as you're enjoying yourself.

BurntTheFuckOut · 05/11/2021 20:46

@ams1210 once a year? No. 4-7 nights per year, when each night stretches out like a year in itself because your body is panicked and terrified, and then the days or weeks in can take to right yourself again after.

DD2 has taken herself to the internal hallway upstairs with all the doors closed.

mydogisthebest · 05/11/2021 20:46

It's NOT bloody once a year though is it?
Bunnyfuller · 05/11/2021 20:47

My dog is 3 hours in to barking running and pacing. The bangs sound like explosions, what is the fucking need for ones that are so loud.

We used to live in a village of thatched cottages so no fireworks but live on the edge of a town now, never heard anything like it 😖😣🤬

Littlemisspissypants · 05/11/2021 20:47

A friend of mine as a teenager was handed a lot one. She was lucky it only took off half her hand (lucky was the words the medical professionals used). I was there when it happened. Been terrified ever since. Currently sat trying to keep myself and pets calm, it's not going well. They're letting them off on the allotments 20yards away from my house.

Ghoulette · 05/11/2021 20:47

@specialsauce

So because dogs piss in the street that means they get to be tortured by fireworks every year? Nice.

Also, not just about pets. sufferers of PTSD, Dementia, the elderly, those with sensory issues, war veterans......

They don't piss in the street or bark. Should we continue torturing them for months of the year in winter so you can have your pretty bangs and flashes most of winter?

Ghoulette · 05/11/2021 20:48

THANK YOU!!

If we keep repeating it people might actually start getting it.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 05/11/2021 20:49

@ikeepseeingit

They rattle my windows and it makes me jump every time. I have been sitting in my house for three hours jumping every time there's a loud one that rattles, which is about every 3 minutes at the moment. It was more just past 6 PM. My windows are decent double glazed, but it must be the tightly packed terraced houses, and the fact that my neighbours have bought up all the loudest 'bangers' that money can buy. I honestly don't mind the quieter ones and quite like watching them, but I am extremely anxious and on edge tonight.

I think there should be a limit on how loud the ones you can buy at home are. It's fairer to everyone really, it's the noise that bothers most people and their pets. I also don't want to ruin everyone's fun so it's a tricky one.

We have concrete floors in our kitchen. Last night when i was cooking, someone set one off behind our house which sounded like an actual bomb. A proper "BOOM!", and the floor vibrated. Ridiculous.
REDHERO · 05/11/2021 20:50

@Annonnimoouse42

it's like The Somme outside presently. have 3 cats hiding out. such an idiotic waste of money
Biscuit for a ridiculous comparison.
pregnantncnc · 05/11/2021 20:51

This week has made me grateful that I got sucked into playing white noise for DS as he sleeps every night as it has blocked out all of the firework noise. Not great for if we ever want him to sleep anywhere but at home, but hey, it is helpful on this occasion!

FourTeaFallOut · 05/11/2021 20:51

There are plenty of anti-social, harmful yet legal things that people do. People minimise the stuff they do and magnify the things other people do. It's just how it is.

specialsauce · 05/11/2021 20:52

@mydogisthebest you must admit dogs and cats are pretty antisocial and bad for the environment though
