So sick of the constant stupid fireworks

When will they hurry up and ban fireworks for private sale?
Have 2 dogs shivering under the sofa. Huge bangs outside. What if you have a baby in bed?
Anti social behaviour if you ask me.
Take your kids to a proper display.

@sleepycoffeemonster

For every so many people that hate them, there are the same amount that love them. I agree they should only be let off on 5th nov as then people can make arrangements to keep pets in etc but for my family its been a happy family tradition that all generations meet up for every year and the kids love the evening. Its one evening a year (or it should be!).

When we had out lovely dog, we spent time training and desensitising her to the noises when she was young and she got used to it. Nowadays people just seem get pissed off and don't even think about how they could help stop their pets being scared, because its not a quick fix.

actually that's not true. people who have a definite "pro" view are now in a minority.....most people don't actually care either way.

People like you make me so cross. Do you think most of those who have scared pets have not tried EVERYTHING. I am actually glad that my old dog is going deaf because they no longer bother him so much.
Do you say the same to folk with PTSD or who are neurodivergent or just hate the noise?

Ghoulette · 05/11/2021 20:34

@gingercatsparky

It's a bit of fun. Chill out.
Again, tell that to my elderly, terrified dementia suffering grandmother, the huge amount of the population with dementia, those with PTSD, war vets etc etc etc

Jesus Christ.

TinselTitsAndGlitteryBits · 05/11/2021 20:34

I adore fireworks. I really do.
This year, however, people seem to be taking the absolute piss.
The dog never normally minds, but they're so bloody loud that they're echoing in my fireplace, and the dog is howling with them.

Some actually sound like gun shots/bombs.

Non-stop for 3 hours.

BurntTheFuckOut · 05/11/2021 20:36

@iloverainydays I wish, I can’t stand anything in my ears, I can only just tolerate the over ear headphones Sad

Doesn’t help that I’ve been at Uni 9am-5pm (Mon - Fri) and then WFH 7pm-10pm (every day) for the last 2 weeks either. So I’m exhausted on top of this shite.

Notahandmaid · 05/11/2021 20:36

@DaisyNGO - yes, same with my MP (Tory cannon fodder) but I write to him in the vain hope that he'll do the right thing one day.

Ghoulette · 05/11/2021 20:37

@Thatsplentyjack

*Tell that to my terrified and elderly, dementia suffering grandmother! And no, it's not one night, it's months, and it scares her every bloody time.

There are thousands of elderly people like her, and war vets, who will be suffering tonight.

There is a massive difference between a huge loud explosion every 5 seconds and a dog barking in a garden. What the fuck.*

I feel awful because this is something that hadn't even crossed my mind, or refugees as a pp said. We don't buy fire works, or anything actually. Infact we are all in with windows shut and tvs on for the dog, but now this is all I'll think of tonight.

I am sorry it is upsetting for you Thanks but it is the harsh reality for many people across the uk.

It's why I am repeating it over and over, and replying it to those closed minded people on here that think we are out to spoil their little bit of fun.

It's not fun when it's your arsehole neighbours along your terraced street in their stupidly tiny gardens. It's shit and should be regulated.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 05/11/2021 20:37

I've never known a bonfire night like it. It's been pretty much non stop here for the last half and a half. Literally non stop.

BurntTheFuckOut · 05/11/2021 20:38

@Ghoulette I’m sorry it’s Hell for you too Flowers

I’m no fun sponge. I endure all sorts so that my DC can have as normal a childhood as possible, but I also avoid the many things I cannot handle due to my illness.

How the fuck do you suggest I avoid this? Besides winning the lottery and living in the middle of nowhere?

ikeepseeingit · 05/11/2021 20:38

They rattle my windows and it makes me jump every time. I have been sitting in my house for three hours jumping every time there's a loud one that rattles, which is about every 3 minutes at the moment. It was more just past 6 PM. My windows are decent double glazed, but it must be the tightly packed terraced houses, and the fact that my neighbours have bought up all the loudest 'bangers' that money can buy. I honestly don't mind the quieter ones and quite like watching them, but I am extremely anxious and on edge tonight.

I think there should be a limit on how loud the ones you can buy at home are. It's fairer to everyone really, it's the noise that bothers most people and their pets. I also don't want to ruin everyone's fun so it's a tricky one.

minou123 · 05/11/2021 20:39

@IFinallyJoinedNowWhat

We’ve got a dog who hates the fireworks - I’m playing Dog Music on Amazon Music (lots of similar ones elsewhere as well). It’s been playing for two or three hours. She’s fast asleep next to me on the bed. Slept through almost all of it and hasn’t been bothered by much at all. I wasn’t expecting it to work as well as it has… I recommend it (secretly hoping it helps me sleep too!)
I have the PetSpecial Classic FM on. It's working a treat.

In fact, maybe a bit too well. Both cats atre sprawled across my bed deep asleep. I'm not sure I'll be able to get into bed.

MrsKeats · 05/11/2021 20:39

chillout
Oh right so that's ok then. It's causing someone heart problems but long as you are ok.
We live in the age of entitlement.

For those with dogs who are struggling, I can recommend talking to your vet. One of mine is terrified of them and we have tried everything - de-sensitising, plug-ins, thunder-shirts, dark dens, radio on - none of it worked. He pants, drools, shakes so hard his teeth chatter, whines, paces and won't settle.

This year I finally caved and got a sedative gel from the vet and it's honestly worked a treat. A couple of little dots on his gums and he's fine. I'll definitely get it again. It's a last resort but he's so much calmer which is a huge relief because he's normally beside himself.

KnottyKnitting · 05/11/2021 20:39

I feel your pain- thankfully my dog is deaf but before she lost her hearing we had constant puddles and mess in the house because she was too scared to go in the garden.

One night I could forgive but it seems to start before Halloween and go on for weeks! And then of course it starts again for Christmas and new year!

Apparently classic FM have been playing soothing music for animals tonight and people are saying it's amazingly effective!

mydogisthebest · 05/11/2021 20:40
@PinkWaferBiscuit no, it's not a daft comment. If I go outside then it's full on. Here is no different to anywhere else. They're non-stop. I just struggle to believe that dogs and babies are that negatively affected by it if they're kept inside with general household noise going on. Some people will use anything as an excuse to get a bit of fun banned.
Well either you have a problem with your hearing or you are lucky that your neighbours are not setting off the very noisy fireworks.

Please tell me what general household noise is the same as the fireworks that sound like bombs. As I already said, my tv turned up to it's loudest volume which, obviously was incredibly loud, still did not drown out the bangs.

Quite what fun is had from bang, bang, bang, even louder bang, bang so loud the windows rattle I really don't know. Over half the fireworks seem to be just very very loud bangs and nothing else

BurntTheFuckOut · 05/11/2021 20:40

@MrsKeats my HR is currently sitting around 150BPM, and that’s with a beta blocker.

I think some people need to read up on what panic and terror does to the body.

specialsauce · 05/11/2021 20:40

@Britneyb

I hate dogs but understand that some people like them so we have to accommodate them. Fireworks are less dangerous than dogs.
Haha I agree! And we have to put up with dogs day and night all year round leaving streams of urine all over the pavement, traces of shit all over the parks, beaches and beauty spots. Sniffing and scavenging our snacks and licking our babies faces. And the cats, scaring all the native songbirds birds away from our gardens. If it's a fireworks versus pets row about which is the most antisocial/anti environment - pets win. Not to mention the tonnage of meat pets eat each day nationally.
Ghoulette · 05/11/2021 20:41

@L0bstersLass

Oh yes so fab on my cramped council estate. So fab for my grandmother and other dementia sufferers who are terrified enough as it is at night. Incredibly fabulous for the war veterans who are cowering in fear and suffering flashbacks which no amount of medication can control when there are literal explosions going on for days on end because Dave next door can't help himself. Utterly and totally fab for the kids with sensory issues. So incredibly fab for people with PTSD who are terrified of loud noises because of past trauma, which again no amount of medication can block out at the best of times.

Oh how fabulous you got to enjoy them on a farm I. The middle of bum fuck nowhere. Most of us are in towns and cities on estates.

But wow. How fab.

MrsKeats · 05/11/2021 20:42

Oh thanks back
I will ask about the gel.

@Pedalpushers

I've got to wonder how quiet your areas must usually be - I'm in London and can count 15 or so houses setting them off from my window and it's barely registering as background noise.
I'm in London. My windows are rattling. The bangs are crazy. I'm sure people are letting off fireworks meant for displays.
Offmyfence · 05/11/2021 20:42

@Annonnimoouse42

it's like The Somme outside presently. have 3 cats hiding out. such an idiotic waste of money
Really the Somme! Do tell us of your experience.
TattySlippers · 05/11/2021 20:43

I have taken my dogs for two long walks today, in the hope they will crash before the fireworks start. They are both a bit skittish tonight and have not eaten their dinner. I have closed all windows and curtains and turned the TV up. They are laying next to me covered with a blanket at the moment. They “jump” whenever a big “bang” goes off but are not “suffering”, as such.

I feel so sorry for the wildlife and birds though. Seeing fb posts stating, “Fireworks are for the kids. Suck it up, Buttercup”, makes me mad tbh. Kids cannot live without fireworks? 🤔

One of my friends sedates her dog having tried everything else but because the fireworks go on night after night for at least 2 weeks it means her poor dog is sedated all those nights. I really don't think that is fair on the dog
Tigger85 · 05/11/2021 20:43

@MrsKeats

Yes deliberately directly at us, it happens every single year. I'm paramedic and it happens less now I live and work in Wales but it was terrible when I worked in London. It's usually done by gangs of teenagers but not always just kids doing it.

BurntTheFuckOut · 05/11/2021 20:43

@Pedalpushers I also live in a busy City, on a main road with no front garden. The sound of traffic is ambient noise, not intrusive noise.

ams1210 · 05/11/2021 20:43

Its really not that bad its occasions that come around once a year . Diwali is about lights so firework galore and majority if the community has babies and dogs! Also Bonfire night same shit remember it's once a year
