So sick of the constant stupid fireworks

When will they hurry up and ban fireworks for private sale?
Have 2 dogs shivering under the sofa. Huge bangs outside. What if you have a baby in bed?
Anti social behaviour if you ask me.
Take your kids to a proper display.

When it no doubt continues tomorrow, I’ll stick my iPad out of the window from half 6 till midnight, shall I?

BeaucoupFish · 05/11/2021 21:32

@MrsKeats
Anti social behaviour SPOT ON

Whinge · 05/11/2021 21:32
@Whinge yes it does, a lovely freezing day at legoland and then a two hour queue in the car to get out of the park along with thousands of other people
If it's not your cup of tea that's fine. But if you have a full day at the park included in the price then it's not £50 for a fireworks display. 🤷‍♀️

@MrsColon

I think people with pets ought to do a bit of research before lashing out against fireworks.

wagwalking.com/training/accept-fireworks

Desensitisation training is recommended for all dogs and cats. If you haven't done this till now then read it and do it in time for next year.

YET AGAIN I will say, if you have read the thread, you will know that I did all that when I got my pup at 9 weeks.

His breeder lived in the middle of nowhere and I lived in a busy city. It worked and he wasn't scared of anything - fireworks, noisy motorbikes, lorries etc.

Then someone let a firework off at 3pm in daylight nowhere near the 5th November as I was walking my dog past their garden,

This was a few years ago and I have tried and tried the training over and over but with no joy.

I never walk him once it is dark in November or the last couple of weeks of October but could not have know that someone would let a firework off when they did

How do you desensitise a horse?

@Ghoulette:
'People don't want them banned, just controlled! Private displays only, not being sold to Keith and his mates to let off in their crappy terrace house garden!

. . . and do judgy and rude. Snobby dare I say.

TokyoSushi · 05/11/2021 21:33

Its just slowly starting to taper off here, thank goodness!

specialsauce · 05/11/2021 21:33

*so

BeaucoupFish · 05/11/2021 21:33

It was so bad here that the racks in my oven were vibrating

Ghoulette · 05/11/2021 21:34

@DeepaBeesKit

I always wonder where people live that they are hearing it "constantly".

I live in the south east. Heard about 5-10 mins of faint popping at 7.15. Nothing since. You could hardly hear what there was through the double glazing, if the tv had been on we wouldnt have heard it at all.

I'll make sure to record it tomorrow night as I would put money on it being just as bad, if not worse, than tonight as it's a Saturday.

These places exist, unfortunately. Some
Places are quieter than others and I will say this, it can completely depend on the area type (having lived on both a city estate and in a posh village, there is a big difference).

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 05/11/2021 21:34

Still going.

My apologies for offending imaginary Keith and his imaginary crappy courtyard garden, I guess?

libertyfarmboots · 05/11/2021 21:35

I hate them, they’ve been non stop since about 6pm. I just struggle with sudden loud noises. The ones that are a bit further away don’t bother me so much but it’s like the neighbours decided to all stagger their garden fireworks for maximum annoyance. Will be glad when it’s done for a few weeks.

Nothing judgy or snobby about it. I don't care what their names are or what their jobs are. I don't think anyone should be able to just walk into tescos and buy explosives with their cornflakes which they can let off in their tiny back garden mere feet away from their neighbours.

viques · 05/11/2021 21:37

Joining in with the general firework hate. They seem to get louder every year, and I really hate those instant diy displays in a box you can get now. A couple of years ago an idiot neighbour set up a row of three of the boxes in the middle of the street. Brainless twat.
@mydogisthebest : "
When I was a child we had proper fireworks. Catherine wheels, rockets and other pretty ones. We didn't have to have ones that make a horrendous noise."

Haaaaahaaaaaaaaa Haha hahaaaaa

YOUR fireworks were ok 'back in the day's were they? Babies, PTSD and old people didnt exist back then.

PaahaaaaA haaaaaaa!!!
Did I say they were ok? They may well have been for the simple reason they didn't sound like bombs, didn't rattle windows and didn't drown out tv's or music.

We are supposed to be more caring now. We know about the misery, distress, injury etc that fireworks cause.

I hated fireworks when I was a child even without the horrendous noise. I would only watch through the window and after a school friend was badly injured by one I wouldn't even do that.

JudySmallweed · 05/11/2021 21:38

@ClaudiusTheGod

What if you have a baby in bed?

Babies sleep through this kind of thing.

I was about to say precisely this.
BurntTheFuckOut · 05/11/2021 21:38

@Ghoulette Grin

If people can’t understand why it’s a bad idea to set them off in a tightly packed space, then I can’t be bothered to expend the energy trying to explain it to them.

Also, all of these people who can’t possibly conceive of something being different in another area, what rock have they crawled out from under and why are they allowed on the internet?!

Ghoulette · 05/11/2021 21:39

@PinkWaferBiscuit thank you! That was my point.

@specialsauce seems to have made their own assumptions about imaginary Keith and his imaginary living conditions, and decided to project it on to me.

My first newborn happily slept through his first bonfire night. I wish my little shell-shocked self could have felt the same. Pretty crazy (if not downright illegal?) hearing all that noise just next to a busy hospital.

Fast forward to the present, my SEN second born had quite a hard time settling down tonight. Rather antisocial to hear gunshot-like noises in a normaly quiet yet densely populated residential urban area. Wouldn't mind if people went and did that in a local park, just not on my bloody front door!

BeaucoupFish · 05/11/2021 21:40

Agreed 100% do Tesco Sell them ? Doesn’t surprise me YET another reason to boycott them

Yes they do. We've had a fireworks counter in our local one for weeks now.
@mydogisthebest I think the selfish idiots are those who want to ban an old tradition because it annoys them! The whole world doesn't revolve around you and your wants and likes!
Public executions were an old tradition. What a shame they were banned.

I used to live in Essex. There would be fireworks night after night after night that went on for hours.

For a couple of years I kept a record of the exact times and dates so that I could report it so know for sure that they went on for hours often starting around 5pm and going on almost non stop until 10pm or even later.

I have friends who live in Essex (different parts) who struggle every year with pets and children that are terrified. I have friends who live in Surrey that have the same problem.

Where I live now it is pretty ok and you should be grateful that your area is too.

My house was double glazed and the tv at its loudest didn't drown out the awful bangs. My windows used to rattle and, no, my house was not an old one so they shouldn't have done. The bangs would echo like crazy
