So sick of the constant stupid fireworks

When will they hurry up and ban fireworks for private sale?
Have 2 dogs shivering under the sofa. Huge bangs outside. What if you have a baby in bed?
Anti social behaviour if you ask me.
Take your kids to a proper display.

Oh great, now they kick off at nearly half 9. Fuck sake.

Whinge · 05/11/2021 21:23
@Whinge because a family ticket to the display by me works out at £70 plus another £30-40 on drinks, rides etc. A box of fireworks and some sparklers costs £40
I'm surprised at the cost. Our local display is £22 for a family ticket. As for the rides and drinks surely you can just say no?

specialsauce · 05/11/2021 21:23

@mydogisthebest : "
When I was a child we had proper fireworks. Catherine wheels, rockets and other pretty ones. We didn't have to have ones that make a horrendous noise."

Haaaaahaaaaaaaaa Haha hahaaaaa

YOUR fireworks were ok 'back in the day's were they? Babies, PTSD and old people didnt exist back then.

PaahaaaaA haaaaaaa!!!

wanttomarryamillionaire · 05/11/2021 21:24

I also have a child with ASD and SPD, should i try and ban everything that can trigger a meltdown in him? Or shall i just live and let live like a reasonable human being?

There still going at full pelt here. Its been none stop since 5.30. Literally thousands of pounds up in smoke, the mind boggles.
BurntTheFuckOut · 05/11/2021 21:24

The one near me - middle of a City in a green space - is free. There are rides and food etc though. However it’s been cancelled for 2 years in a row and it seems to have made it so much worseZ

Bobsyer · 05/11/2021 21:25

I love fireworks. Have just moved and this area has been banging since 6.

I hardly think an evening or two of fireworks is comparable to the worry that your home and family might be blown up by a mortar round Hmm

MrsKeats · 05/11/2021 21:25

Honestly doctor
Is an analogy that hard to understand?
Just hoping you're not a real doctor.
The *it is tradition' argument is always brought out when nothing else will work.

@Ghoulette

I really need to move. I'm not joking or exaggerating when I say it started in September here and has been going on every week, and will now until January.
Yes its the same here, starts in August and will go on until January. I too have no idea where the "its only one night" brigade live. Last year teens stood at the side of local woodland roads and threw lit fireworks at horseriders. those of you who think they do no harm might like to google firework injuries. The photos of the horse injuries are particularly educationsl
Ghoulette · 05/11/2021 21:25
**@mydogisthebest* @Ghoulette* why do you need to resort to calling people ignorant and stupid and saying they are like children? And constantly shrieking 'read the thread".

Its very rude and childish of you both.

Just because a few of us are comparing the antisocial and environmental elements of both firework and pets, doesnt make us firework loving, peoplemwithPTSDhating ba**ards.

Get a grip.
I haven't said either of those things about anyone here. My idiot neighbours and the twat students who set a firework off in the middle of the road are, however, idiots.

I've not said anyone is a ptsd hating bastard either? But I have said people need to realise it's not just posters trying to spoil people's fun over a few nervous pets, and actually there are bigger issues with it. I am sorry that fact seems to personally offend you Thanks

wanttomarryamillionaire · 05/11/2021 21:25

@Whinge thats the cheaper of the two local displays, the other one being legoland which is around £50 pp!

MrsKeats · 05/11/2021 21:26

And the most tone deaf comment award goes to bob

My dementia suffering grandmother thinks it's just that though. As do a fair few veterans, considering it is literal explosives going off on their doorstep.

What's hard to understand about that?

MidgeKiller1 · 05/11/2021 21:27

Going off every night here for at least a week thanks to Diwali, agree public displays only. Plus the smoke afterwards, it always looks foggy.

Tilltheend99 · 05/11/2021 21:27

I’ve actually just made a complaint to my local council now using the online form under the subject of antisocial behaviour. I’m trying to get baby to sleep and it’s driving me up the wall! Sounds like every bang is right outside.

GrandTheftWalrus · 05/11/2021 21:27

Both my 4yo and 5mo slept thru fireworks that were so loud they shook the building

Whinge · 05/11/2021 21:27

Not sure you can compare with Legoland. Surely that also includes access to the entire park as well as a display?

DeepaBeesKit · 05/11/2021 21:27

I always wonder where people live that they are hearing it "constantly".

I live in the south east. Heard about 5-10 mins of faint popping at 7.15. Nothing since. You could hardly hear what there was through the double glazing, if the tv had been on we wouldnt have heard it at all.

Maybe because if you did read the thread and read it properly you would see that many many many posters are saying it is not just about cats and dogs. It is about human beings not just being a little upset but absolutely terrified.

Do you think it ok that wildlife will be injured or even killed? Is it ok that horses may be injured? I know of several horses that have been badly injured either through being burnt or trying to jump a fence/hedge/wall in fear. Badly injured enough to have to be put to sleep. Did you read what I said about a horse jumping onto a barbed wire fence she was terrified? She had a miscarriage. Is that ok in your opinion?

Is it ok that fireworks are thrown at people, at vehicles, at police, firefighters, paramedics? Is it ok that lit fireworks are put through people's letterboxes?

If you think that all those are ok then I would say you are definitely ignorant and stupid

Ghoulette · 05/11/2021 21:29

@wanttomarryamillionaire

Your child with ASD will react totally differently to another persons child with ASD and you will cope with it differently too.

There are more people out there suffering negatively tonight and for the last few weeks than just your child, too.

itsnotmeitsu · 05/11/2021 21:30

What I've noticed this year (and probably last year) is that fireworks have been much lesser through the weeks running up to 5 November. But the less fireworks the better, as far as I'm concerned. Probably things have been affected by supply lines due to covid-19 and Brexit. I have had dogs for a long time and they are terrified during this season. Listening to constant loud bangs is not nice.

However, what also dawned on me tonight; is that the fireworks thing seems so boring now. A load of loud bangs with some sparkling coloured flashes can't match up to the technology we have now. So what's the point of a night devoted to doing this?

I do appreciate the Guy Fawkes connection as I often have a drink in the building where he was born, but not the fireworks thing anymore.

wanttomarryamillionaire · 05/11/2021 21:30

@Whinge yes it does, a lovely freezing day at legoland and then a two hour queue in the car to get out of the park along with thousands of other people

Ghoulette · 05/11/2021 21:30

Well done. Have a medal Biscuit

Many other people in the uk have children who aren't asleep and many others have kids who have major sensory issues.

You realise that not all areas of the UK are like that, right?
BeaucoupFish · 05/11/2021 21:32

@MrsKeats
