So sick of the constant stupid fireworks

When will they hurry up and ban fireworks for private sale?
Have 2 dogs shivering under the sofa. Huge bangs outside. What if you have a baby in bed?
Anti social behaviour if you ask me.
Take your kids to a proper display.

@MissyB1

My dog is crying and pacing around the house, she’s panting very fast. It’s heartbreaking. And before anyone tells me it’s because I haven’t “trained her” or prepared for this - just don’t bother! I’ve done everything my vet advised.
My poor rescue dog is the same. He’s absolutely petrified. We’ve done the fireworks prep with him and he’s medicated for anxiety but he’s so frightened it’s upsetting to see him.
BurntTheFuckOut · 05/11/2021 21:15

Because they are explosives that shouldn’t be used by laypeople.

Is that clear enough for you?

wanttomarryamillionaire · 05/11/2021 21:15

@BurntTheFuckOut get a grip and stop trying to hard to be clever

mydogisthebest · 05/11/2021 21:15
@mydogisthebest I think the selfish idiots are those who want to ban an old tradition because it annoys them! The whole world doesn't revolve around you and your wants and likes!
It's not about my wants or likes. It's about the animals, including wildlife, that are terrified. It's about the wildlife that suffer injuries or even death because of their terror.

It's about the elderly who have lived through the war and people with dementia that are terrified.

It's about people who have lived in war torn countries.

It's about babies and young children who, for whatever, reason are scared of the noise.

I don't really have a problem with pretty fireworks. I just don't understand what morons find the ones that sound like bombs fun. How is it fun to listen to what sounds like a bomb or to have your windows rattle? They get louder and louder every year.

When I was a child we had proper fireworks. Catherine wheels, rockets and other pretty ones. We didn't have to have ones that make a horrendous noise.

I don't for one second think the world revolves around me but the firework lovers pathetically defending the awful noise do seem to think they are in the right and their wants and likes are more important
@PinkWaferBiscuit so because you say so I shouldn't be able to have fireworks in my garden with my kids? Ok thenHmm
Why do you have to set explosives off in your garden? Why can't your children go to an organised display?

BurntTheFuckOut · 05/11/2021 21:16

@wanttomarryamillionaire *too

No I don't think anyone including yourself should have them in your garden. Most gardens in this country are not big enough to allow proper distance between the firework and those watching it. What's wrong with taking your child to a public display?

traka · 05/11/2021 21:17

I'd like them to be made silent

The noise is unnecessary. Fireworks are a visual thing. Can't imagine many ppl enjoying listening to a mortar going off

Mrstamborineman · 05/11/2021 21:17

I would be fed up to see and hear stupid fireworks too. Luckily they are mostly really good ones round here. The grumpster medal goes to you.

FourTeaFallOut · 05/11/2021 21:17

Surely no one with a free range cat is playing the wildlife card?

My another really adult sensible poster - NOT
@wanttomarryamillionaire PTSD/CPTSD sufferers aren’t an homologous group Hmm

Christ. You win the Most Gammon Comments of this thread.
No one is saying they are, but many PTSD and CPTSD sufferers are triggered by literal explosions going on immediately outside their homes.

I don't get the point you are making.

sbhydrogen · 05/11/2021 21:18

I love fireworks, but right now my almost 2 year old keeps waking up from all the bangs. I wish people were considerate enough to have them earlier on in the evening!

user1471538283 · 05/11/2021 21:18

I'm so sick of them. This is our second night and they've been going for 6 long hours. Wildlife and pets are terrified. People get hurt. Emergency services must hate this time of year. They are also so expensive. Who has the money to buy them that last for hours?

Where I grew up we only had organised displays one night. Here it is going to be at least a week. Massive display fireworks in tiny city gardens.

@MrsKeats says you’re practically a slave owner for doing this.

I love a nice, calm MN debate.

specialsauce · 05/11/2021 21:18

@mydogisthebest @Ghoulette why do you need to resort to calling people ignorant and stupid and saying they are like children? And constantly shrieking 'read the thread".

Its very rude and childish of you both.

Just because a few of us are comparing the antisocial and environmental elements of both firework and pets, doesnt make us firework loving, peoplemwithPTSDhating ba**ards.

Get a grip.

wanttomarryamillionaire · 05/11/2021 21:18

@Whinge because a family ticket to the display by me works out at £70 plus another £30-40 on drinks, rides etc. A box of fireworks and some sparklers costs £40

mydogisthebest · 05/11/2021 21:19
@mydogisthebest

How old are you?

MrsColon · 05/11/2021 21:20

I think people with pets ought to do a bit of research before lashing out against fireworks.

wagwalking.com/training/accept-fireworks

Desensitisation training is recommended for all dogs and cats. If you haven't done this till now then read it and do it in time for next year.

BurntTheFuckOut · 05/11/2021 21:20

@Ghoulette - the PP I was responding to said that ex service personnel have posted on here in the past saying that fireworks don’t trigger their PTSD and were called liars because it doesn’t fit our “ban fireworks because XYZ” narrative. I was just point out that of course not everyone with PTSD will be. But I’d wager the vast majority of us are.

FourTeaFallOut · 05/11/2021 21:21

It's not just about the sound though. Fireworks on bonfire night also cause an abundance of short time air pollution. Nothing that compares with vehicle emissions or the shite that comes out of log burning stoves in the long term but enough to see a significant increase in respiratory distress the following day.

Ghoulette · 05/11/2021 21:21

@sst1234

The world doesn’t stop for your pets. Or anyone else’s. Get a life.
Or the ptsd sufferers, dementia patients, kids and adults with sensory issues etc etc

They can just suffer away apparently though because people like you focus on it being solely about pets, no matter how many people on here share their horrific experiences.

wanttomarryamillionaire · 05/11/2021 21:21

I have four dogs, all socialised properly and desensitised to fireworks! All happily laying on the sofas while we have had fireworks and so have the majority of the neighbours.
DoctorSnortles · 05/11/2021 21:22

I don’t mind it at this time of year, but then I live in the countryside so it’s generally pretty quiet. The New Years Eve firework arseholes get me going, though. Bonfire Night fireworks round here are popping off early evening time, NYE start around 11pm and keep going until about 2am. It’s just twattish.
