So sick of the constant stupid fireworks

When will they hurry up and ban fireworks for private sale?
Have 2 dogs shivering under the sofa. Huge bangs outside. What if you have a baby in bed?
Anti social behaviour if you ask me.
Take your kids to a proper display.

The world doesn’t stop for your pets. Or anyone else’s. Get a life.

NameChangeADHD · 05/11/2021 21:04

It’s awful here like the video @NotMyCat posted but I think the bangs are louder!
I can hear the child next door wailing in terror every time and I wish I could help :( but I don’t have any ear defenders or anything practical. My pets are all okay thankfully, I can hear them munching away on their dinner.

I wish they were for organised displays only. My boyfriend’s nana (hundreds of miles away) is terrified too. She has dementia.

It’s not fun for lots of people :(

mydogisthebest · 05/11/2021 21:04

I wrote to my MP a couple of years ago when I lived in an area where the firework noise was horrendous and went on for hours night after night for weeks.

She replied saying I should be grateful to live somewhere that people can buy fireworks as she grew up in Northern Ireland where they can't be bought!! Stupid cow

They shouldn't be available to the general public, organised displays only should be enough.

WonderfulYou · 05/11/2021 21:06

My pets are fine but i SJ home with them. I always worry about wildlife and farm animals.
I can’t even imagine what someone with PTSD must feel.

I believe Italy have silent fireworks which are a good idea.
Or as a compromise have them only during organised events and definitely not sold to members of the public where accidents happen so easily.

wanttomarryamillionaire · 05/11/2021 21:06

Yawn!!!!!! Please bore off with your moaning! You may not enjoy them but others do! Stop expecting everyone to live by your standards!

Bloody hell READ THE THREAD.
It's not just about pets.

Why is it that those who don't understand why others don't like fireworks tend to resort to name calling and general rudeness? Says a lot about their attitude in general...

ams1210 · 05/11/2021 21:09

@mydogisthebest

Hope you enjoy the fireworks 🎆

wanttomarryamillionaire · 05/11/2021 21:09

@mydogisthebest I think the selfish idiots are those who want to ban an old tradition because it annoys them! The whole world doesn't revolve around you and your wants and likes!

MrsKeats · 05/11/2021 21:10

Because they are wrong nordica and can't form a decent argument.

Exteacher19 · 05/11/2021 21:10

I wish they were banned. My kids sleep pretty well through noise but they've even woken tonight.
I do feel for the animals 😔

BurntTheFuckOut · 05/11/2021 21:11

@wanttomarryamillionaire there are other old traditions that should be banned too. Just because something has always been done, doesn’t mean it should continue to be.

MrsKeats · 05/11/2021 21:11

Lots of people have said organised displays aren't too bad as they are short and less dangerous.
Obviously this won't always be possible in a pandemic but that won't be forever.

No one wants it banned for fucks sake. All people are asking is for it to be restricted to proper public displays instead of allowing anyone with cash to buy explosives to set off at any location of their choosing.

wanttomarryamillionaire · 05/11/2021 21:12

There have been threads on here by ex service personnel who have stated that fireworks don't trigger their PTSD and they were accused of lying about their own condition and triggers 🙄---- because it didn't suit the firework haters agenda!

MsDidoTwite · 05/11/2021 21:13

I heard a heartbreaking story from a teacher friend who works in a very multicultural school. They organised a donation of noise cancelling headphones to hand out to some of their children who’d come from war zones and are understandably terrified by fireworks.
Given firework’s massive increase in size, noise levels and extended periods of use over recent years, and all the disruption they cause I think it’s time to limit their use. Perhaps the solution is to limit what and when they can be sold to the public, and stop allowing people to buy arena size fireworks to use in their back gardens.

MrsKeats · 05/11/2021 21:13

I was waiting for the 'old traditions' argument.
Yes all old traditions were fantastic; like slavery, for example.

@wanttomarryamillionaire PTSD/CPTSD sufferers aren’t an homologous group Hmm

Christ. You win the Most Gammon Comments of this thread.

Yep, it's really not an unreasonable request. The fact that Joe Public can buy them and set them off wherever and whenever they want is madness.

They aren't reading posts properly by the sounds of it. Thinking it's about likes and dislikes instead of young children and pets being terrified, people with PTSD being affected, etc.
wanttomarryamillionaire · 05/11/2021 21:14

@PinkWaferBiscuit so because you say so I shouldn't be able to have fireworks in my garden with my kids? Ok thenHmm

Ghoulette · 05/11/2021 21:15

@Maverickess

Just about to start a night shift on a dementia unit, I'm so looking forward to trying to coax the 90 year old I look after out from under his bed, or more likely laying there with him until we hope the majority have stopped only to have him dive under there again when another lot starts, spent 2 hours down there last night. Think my colleague is particularly looking forward to trying to keep the rest calm as they jump and get upset, scared and confused by the noises that are continuing on. We've had this at some level for the last 2 weeks, with increasing frequency until tonight.

Oh well, enjoy your fun though, no thought for others required 👍

Yep, can't be spoiling everyone's fun so they can hear their precious bangs and see flashes Hmm

I worked on a dementia unit for years and it's awful at night at the best of times. I hope you and your patients make it through and are ok come morning Thanks
