Aibu to find 17c too cold at home?

Apparently I'm crazy for finding 17c too cold.

I'm currently wearing a top, a hoodie and a big blanket/hoodie thing and I still have a cold nose.

Please tell me I'm not crazy and 17c is bloody cold to have it at home. What temp is your perfect temp at home in the evening?

My house does my head in.
It's constantly at 17 degrees no matter how much I heat it.
I've just stuck the heating on for 2 hours at 35 degrees, and it's still 17 degrees inside.
The radiators get hot (well maybe half of them) but the heat just disappears somewhere.
So frustrating.

Post menopause here and I am happy with 18 max. Source of argument between me and DH, who thinks 22 is OK. For me 22 is hell.

Wilma55 · 02/11/2021 19:09

WHO recommends minimum of 18 or 21 for babies and elderly.

Genuinely never seen the thermostat temperature register more than 18 degrees.

@NannyR

17-18 is just right for me, my thermostat is showing 14 at the home and I'm not uncomfortably cold, just wearing normal clothes. Everyone has different tolerance levels of temperature - I get very uncomfortable if it's too hot (>23), and really don't enjoy heatwaves.
Even the government says under 16 is too cold for an office.
DeathMetalMum · 02/11/2021 19:10

I find more thinner layers better. I generally wear a vest, thin t-shirt (sometimes long sleeve), jumper and zip hoodie. With a fleecy blanket over my legs if I'm sitting. I do feel the cold but would be OK at 17 with that.

BogRollBOGOF · 02/11/2021 19:11

I can handle 18⁰C in the day if I'm in and out and moving around. It's too cold for relaxing.

There comes a point of coldness where my nose is cold and drippy and no amount of layering up makes a difference. I've bought a heated throw and that's great for warming up without having to turn the heating on.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 02/11/2021 19:12

I hate the feeling of forced heat in a house.

We keep our house on the chilly side if this thread is to be believed-no heating on yet although we do have an open fire in the evening which is very cozy.

Bedroom window still wide open-love to be cold when I sleep with a big pile of duvets.
DH and I do have separate duvets in the interest of marital harmony...

Santastuckincustoms · 02/11/2021 19:12

We don't have heating on yet, we are south east though and the DC are having hot water bottles in their beds.

onceandneveragain · 02/11/2021 19:12

my thermostat currently says 17.4 and I'm not cold at all even sitting still. Don't understand how people can be cold at 21degrees plus - that's warmer than most of the summer in the UK - surely you don't wander around with hoodies on on a sunny day in July/August?

I do sometimes have what you've mentioned and get a cold nose even though the rest of me is ok though!

Shadowboy · 02/11/2021 19:13

I like 20-21 but our house currently has no heating upstairs (working on it!) so it’s warm downstairs about about 17 upstairs which feels cold!

TheUndeadLovelinessOfDemons · 02/11/2021 19:13

30 and under the duvet fully clothed including jumper.

It was 4c here in the n.e. this morning. Consider me envious.
SpookyScarySkeletons · 02/11/2021 19:14

Nope YADNBU! 17 is cooooooold for a living room!

I like it around 20-21 to be comfortable.

(DH is a tight Yorkshireman though and insists I use optimum cardigans and blankets before I go near the thermostat)

I found 15⁰C comfortable when I had 8lb of another human in me due to be born soonish. Just as well as I was snowed in (-8⁰C outside) and too pregnant to fit in things like maternity leggings any more Grin
Avarua · 02/11/2021 19:16

I work in a tropical country. If we put it lower than 24 Celcius people complain.

Avarua · 02/11/2021 19:17

I like it set to 21 when I'm in UK / NZ / Aus

Charlieandlola · 02/11/2021 19:17

17 is too cold for me - my heating is set at 18.5 , it’s a modem but exposed house which only gets cold when the wind whips from the east - and then I put the Hive up to 20.

NeverTrustaRabbit · 02/11/2021 19:17

17° seems a tad cold 🥶 I'd be totally miserable. As you're not at home so have no control over the heating could you buy a hot water bottle or one of those microwave pads......at least they'll keep you warm.

I'd hate it, at that temp the bed will be so cold, it will almost feel damp and the bathroom will be horrible.....I like a warmish bedroom (around 19-20°) and definitely like a warm bathroom.

Hope it gets warmer soon for you!

Cheerbear23 · 02/11/2021 19:18

I’ve just put mine upto 23.5. It was 19 and still had a cold nose, fingers and toes, despite wearing jumper socks and slippers.

FlamingoDust · 02/11/2021 19:18

20.5

SatsumaPumpkinFace · 02/11/2021 19:19

I like it around 15, haven't put the heating on yet. I can't stand being too hot 🥵

GTAlogic · 02/11/2021 19:20

Ours is currently about 19°C and it feels nice. As it gets colder we can't afford to turn the heating up so we'll have to be cold. Some tricks that help us:

Curtains closed before dark

Internal doors closed

Leave oven open after use so heat dissipates into the room

Draught excluders under doors

Thermals under clothes tucked into each other to avoid bare skin showing

LyraVega · 02/11/2021 19:20

@TheCanyon

My heating currently says it's 22.5, it's lies. I'm freezing! 17, I think I'd cry.
Ours is like this! Says its one temperature when there's no way its as warm as it says it is!

We have ours set to 22 and feel the difference when it drops to 21 or below.

I would be shivering at 17

cupatay · 02/11/2021 19:21

Heating hasn't gone on yet (Midlands), so couldn't tell you! When I can see my breath.
