Arguing with a male friend who feels men are just as vulnerable as women when it comes to date rape and the new injection of drugs.

I am so annoyed I have walked away. Hes a twat but I need a decent argument as most men are stupid. Not all men but most.

Yabu he's right men are as vulnerable as women.

YANBU kick him in the nuts.

OP posts:

Men are not as vulnerable as women

They are when drugged by a rapist.

And that is the argument the OP had with the guy. It wasn't about whether women are far more likely to be drugged and raped.

It must be worrying for anyone who goes out clubbing right now.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 31/10/2021 00:59

*HailAdrian
Regardless of who is most vulnerable, it's pretty much always MEN who are doing the raping. 🙄

You clearly don’t understand the law on rape Shock

But they're not. Women are 5 times as likely to be victims of sexual violence than men. Most men are heterosexual

What Worra said.

Hertsgirl10 · 31/10/2021 01:09

Of course they are why would you think that they’re not? Doesn’t it enter anyones head that when a group of mates & females are out together, the person doing the spiking, they drug the boys first to get rid of them.

My daughter went out in a group of 7, mixed genders. 6 of them were spiked. All ended up in a&e and treated like young drunk idiots, till the last one that was helping outta the 7 got bright in, by which time the rest had been kicked out. They only blood tested her as they realised something didn’t add up, hers come back from its ghb.

Didn’t test any of the boys cos a bit couldn’t possibly be a victim of this 💆🏼‍♀️💆🏼‍♀️ Probably they just walk off when someone suggested it in a conversation. It’s weird that people don’t see this is a very serious issue and is definitely not just a girl problem, males are made to look like stupid twats that can’t handle their drink and then don’t report cos of the reception they had from the people that are supposed to care for them.

kittenkipping · 31/10/2021 01:11

Yanbu op. It's men who are a risk. It's women who are being targeted (ALL reports I've found are if women being targeted) of course if men are targeted they will be vulnerable. But their muscle mass and the unlikelihood of their being targeted makes them safer. Also, when it happens to them (outside of penuary) they get justice. Women don't. Our justice depends upon what we wore, if we slept with others, if the rapist has a "rep" to uphold etc.

OhWhyNot · 31/10/2021 01:11

No they are not

Not all victims are out of it or come round during being assaulted

A man who is confused may still be able to fight a women may still be able to fight - we know who is more likely to get away

A man could feel he has a chance to get away a women will be well aware she will be overpowered so their reactions are likely to be different

HailAdrian · 31/10/2021 01:14

You clearly don’t understand the law on rape

Oh yawn. What the fuck are you talking about?

Heyiam · 31/10/2021 01:15

Legally men can’t be ‘raped’ by a female in the UK.

Some of these comments would be seen an sexist if they were to be said about a female. You can’t have it both ways.

HailAdrian · 31/10/2021 01:15

Ok, it's pretty much always MEN doing the sexual assaulting. 🙄

OhWhyNot · 31/10/2021 01:17

Oh yeah men are so scared right now Hmm

Except they are not some men just don’t want to accept that it’s men their sex that are The perpetrators

Any decent man would be listening to women’s fears, thinking how they can make a difference and speaking out against women being harassed or worse when they see this happening

Heyiam · 31/10/2021 01:19

@OhWhyNot in the same respect any decent woman should be protesting against dv that men are subject to from women? Do you advocate this? If not I believe it’s a hypocritical view.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 31/10/2021 01:20

Oh yawn. What the fuck are you talking about?

The fucking fact you don’t know the difference between sexual assault and rape!!’

Stop minimising violence of men, one doesn’t override the other just because ones statistically higher than the other!!!!!

Heyiam · 31/10/2021 01:21

Do you advocate this? Should have been the last sentence sorry. English isn’t my first language

Hertsgirl10 · 31/10/2021 01:23

There has been a lot of talk about this injection thing, not a lot of proof though. There’s been so much about people being injected with the date rape & HIV. I don’t know it seems like things keep getting added on to the stories. I don’t believe the injections but I don’t know that drugging has become so causal in most clubs that if someone’s been spiked it seems the younger generation are just like mehh it’s what happens. No one apart from my daughter reported what happened to them to the police.

I think it’s happening within friendship groups and with people they trust. I’m not talking about rape, maybe it’s on a the minds of some but the way it’s so casual I’m finding it difficult to believe the intensions are always to rape. When I say casual, ask any 18-28 year old if they know anyone that’s been spiked, they will say yes, or what this week.

HailAdrian · 31/10/2021 01:24

Stop minimising violence of men, one doesn’t override the other just because ones statistically higher than the other!!!!!

Oh shush.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 31/10/2021 01:24

Any decent man would be listening to women’s fears, thinking how they can make a difference and speaking out against women being harassed or worse when they see this happening

The vast majority of men do, it’s a minority of men raping and assaulting women, not the majority,

I believe some perspective is required on here at times when discussion sexual violence.

OhWhyNot · 31/10/2021 01:26

I don’t feel I need to protest no or to raise awareness. I have worked in dv women had to and continue to have to fight for female victims to have safe spaces (and there is a fight now for keeping these just for females)

I can listen and empathise

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 31/10/2021 01:29

Oh shush

As Smart As Bait!!!

OhWhyNot · 31/10/2021 01:30

I haven’t seen men take to the street to demand changes to laws to protect women, I don’t see men standing up and saying maybe it’s us who should be curfewed, men didn’t fight for women to have safe spaces

I have only once had a man defend men when I have been harassed by another in public and that has happened on a number of occasions

The vast majority of men just turn a blind eye or are quick to tell you not all men are like this Hmm

Heyiam · 31/10/2021 01:32

@OhWhyNot coolio, your one of those those that believes In womens rights, as opposed to EQUAL rights.
Genuinely pleased that you can help and support 50% of society (women). Shame about the other 50% (which I believe is actually higher as iirc current more males born than females).

Heyiam · 31/10/2021 01:33

You’re*

OhWhyNot · 31/10/2021 01:37

Actually my work I support men

But carry on with your nonsense

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 31/10/2021 01:39

OhWhyNot I’m sorry you’ve experience this however that is not my experience and your experience does not generalise men, as mine also does not.

Perspective is very much needed when discussing highly emotive topics

NiceGerbil · 31/10/2021 01:48
  1. Most common substance for spiking is booze. Doubles/ trebles instead of singles. Bottle was only a quid more than a glass. Yay I've got a tray of shots! Go on just one more etc.
Using alcohol to reduce inhibitions is kind of accepted though. And if enough to not know what's going on then victim blaming kicks in.
  1. Men who are interested in attacking men surely target gay clubs/ bars, or areas with gay venues. Or men walking home etc. Clubs frequented by straight men (usually in groups) would be way more difficult so why do that?
  1. I have reservations about this whole needles thing for a variety of reasons. My gut feel is not happening/ one man (med student?) in one area. Could be wrong obv but at mo just seems incredibly unlikely to me.

Sadly it is happening and arrests are now happening across certain areas however I don’t believe they are happening to the scale they are being reported at by the media.

moanymyrtle · 31/10/2021 01:07

spiking drinks is now done randomly so lots of drinks will get spiked in one club and they then watch and see who doesn’t have a group to look after them and choose the victim. So it’s inevitable with this tactic men and women will get spiked even if the girls are the target. In my 20’s we were told it would be someone targeting us specifically eg chatting us up, asking to buy us a drink so the tactics and scale has changed
