Are my vintage tapestry shoes that bad?

I was in the charity shop today and found these I absolutely love them think they are super cute. I know some might find them awful but are they that bad?

They are vintage St Micheals (is that marks and Spencer) and made in England. Haven't got a clue how old they are but they are unworn and we're a bargain.

I actually think they look really nice! I would definitely have bought them if I had came across them. Think they look lovely in the photos you posted and they will go great with a denim dress.

I have also been told that I have "different" tastes but you're the one wearing them so wear them with pride! A lot of things that I see some others wearing that are supposedly the in thing is just a big nope from me!

Also really like the other pair with the higher heel that someone posted few pages ago too.

Yours honestly do look like ballet shoes to me and not slippers at all... just pretty shoes.

EOLQ · 29/10/2021 23:00

I think they're quite cute. If you like them then go for it! Be cute with skinny jeans.

My Nan's slippers always had a heel. But also her dressing gowns/House coats were quilted and button up.

I want one now I'm thinking of it. Be great for working from home!

GoodVibesHere · 29/10/2021 23:01

Vile

LightDrizzle · 29/10/2021 23:07

Heinous.

justasking111 · 29/10/2021 23:10

My MIL had these back in the day. Never thought to see them again

MintMatchmaker · 29/10/2021 23:28

Hideous slippers. We used to buy my Nan this sort of thing for birthdays or Christmas. Fair chance she owned this exact pattern at some point. We always bought them at M&S as they had a good returns policy!

ODFOgrinch · 29/10/2021 23:30

You could make these into Mary Janes by adding a strap in the same colour as the heel and little buckle for next to nothing.
Or a big bow tie type bow.
So much potential!

XenoBitch · 29/10/2021 23:32

OP, do you like them? That is the only opinion that has any weight here. If you like them, enjoy them.

Cherrysoup · 29/10/2021 23:32

I have the equivalent Dr Martens and I don’t gaf if people don’t like them! They aren’t practical, given I go from work to the yard, but hey, they’re pretty fabulous!

Cam2020 · 29/10/2021 23:34

Definitely slippers! My nan had these in the 80s.

That's not to say you can't wear them as you wish though.

category12 · 29/10/2021 23:34

I don't believe Doc Martens do an equivalent of those.

3luckystars · 29/10/2021 23:35

Ugly as sin.

BiLuminous · 29/10/2021 23:36

@Mrstamborineman

Apologies for the delay in responding, I had to sit down, they are truly the ugliest shoes, slippers, footwear, I seen in a long time.
Grin
Cherryana · 29/10/2021 23:38

How old are you op?
Because they are fine if you are in your eighties. They look like something my grandmother would wear.

Notimeforaname · 29/10/2021 23:38

Sorry no. They look like horrific carpet we had in the 80s.

Notimeforaname · 29/10/2021 23:39

Sorry but they really are ugly. They look filthy tooBlush🤣

torquewench · 29/10/2021 23:41

😱🙈My eyes! My eyes! 🤮

Someone has given those monstrosities away for a reason .

MorrisZapp · 29/10/2021 23:53

@LauraSaidIShouldBeNicer

I really have bought fucking slippers haven't I Grin
Don't be embarrassed! My mum volunteers in a charity shop and a man wanted to buy the small microwave oven which he thought would be ideal for a cup of tea.

My mum had to explain that it was a toy microwave. It was candy pink and made of plastic.

BetsyBigNose · 30/10/2021 00:04

My DGM, who was around 70 at the time, had a pair of those when I was a child in the early 80's - she called them her 'House Shoes' (nothing as infra dig as slippers for her!)

Hoesbeforebroes · 30/10/2021 00:14

I love that you love them and are going to wear them anyway despite knowing that they're slippers and fucking hideous Grin

Good on you OP, with that attitude I bet you'll rock them.

PinkSyCo · 30/10/2021 00:16

Oh OP they are horrible. Like really really awful. You sound lovely though, and they were only a quid and make you happy so that’s all that matters. Smile

LettertoHermoine · 30/10/2021 00:17

4 words…. The Sound Of Music.

MrFlippersPancake · 30/10/2021 00:32

I quite like them Blush

jamandmarmalade · 30/10/2021 00:34

Nora Batty would have rocked these slippers in her day Wink

chesirecat99 · 30/10/2021 01:14

Definitely house shoes/slippers from the 1980s, my late grandmother had them too. She would be 111 now... Grin

You need a quilted nylon housecoat now to match! Those dressing gownish things that were for wearing over clothes, not wearing to bed.
