I was in the charity shop today and found these I absolutely love them think they are super cute. I know some might find them awful but are they that bad?

They are vintage St Micheals (is that marks and Spencer) and made in England. Haven't got a clue how old they are but they are unworn and we're a bargain.

@LauraSaidIShouldBeNicer

They were £1...... I have just turned 30 so suppose they aren't as vintage as I imagined but hey I thought they were shoes haha!.... Well they are now
They were a quid for a reason 🤭
Ingles2 · 29/10/2021 19:53

haha! no! they're old lady slipper from M&S... vintage tapestry shoes is a definite stretch of the imagination. Sorry..

FindingMeno · 29/10/2021 19:56

Do it,and do it with conviction.

Pontypandytaxpayer · 29/10/2021 19:57

I had same style in the early 80s but in a darker colour with a black background. I loved them and I wore them into the ground. They are definitely shoes not slippers as they have a proper sole not a fabric one.
They were very fashionable at the time in the “new romantic” style - think tiered skirts, velvet knee breeches, flouncy white shirts, lots of eyeliner ...

Mrsmadevans · 29/10/2021 19:59

Love them

NannyOggsWhiskyStash · 29/10/2021 20:01

They are 80s old lady slippers, but if you can pull them off with panache, go for it. I always fancied a pair of those brown suede booties that oldies wore in the 80s. Bet they look great with black tights

Redcrayons · 29/10/2021 20:03

I saw some young girl out out in a pair of crocs!

Anything goes these days. wear them with pride.

Alwayscheerful · 29/10/2021 20:03

My granny used to wear some like that.
M & S slippers. But with a rubber heel and sole.

Craftycorvid · 29/10/2021 20:07

Well, yes, they are slippers, but what about all those bloody sliders with fluffy bits on that make the wearer look as though they’ve turned out in 1970s ‘mules’ more usually accessorised with a nylon baby doll nightie? Said mad-looking sliders are on trend so why not a pair of authentic 80s tapestry slippers?

For the record, I have a pair of Dr Martens in very similar print, oh and a velvet pair, too. Grin

ItsDinah · 29/10/2021 20:08

They are slippers. They will be good quality and robust enough to stand up to a little bit of outside wear ( hanging the washing out). I would not use them for driving as they would be unsafe. They slip off your feet too easily. The heel is because wearing absolutely flat shoes can be really bad for your feet and joints. A low broad heel of the sort on the slippers is better.

DontKeepTheFaith · 29/10/2021 20:09

They are quite hideous and I love fugly footwear. They are in another league though😉

Wear your slippers with pride if you like them. Maybe not in the rain though🤣

daisychain01 · 29/10/2021 20:10

They are definitely slippers, you can tell by the binding round the top, theyre not waterproof. Your feet will be soaking wet in no time.

You won't be able to walk very far in them. No support and they'll stretch after a while and go all floppy.

Cuntness · 29/10/2021 20:11

@Thesearmsofmine

From the style of them they look like fancy slippers. I have a lovely pair of tapestry shoes but mine are heeled and definitely shoes.
Are these Irregular Choice? I bloody love them.
knittingaddict · 29/10/2021 20:12

Sorry op Grin, I'm old enough to remember people wearing slippers like this. Wear them however you like though. It's no ones business but yours.

SuperbFoolish · 29/10/2021 20:15

Gorgeous! But I do think they are slippers..

TertiusLydgate · 29/10/2021 20:17

They are so bad.

They belong on an 85-year-old with oedema. And they're slippers.

Echobelly · 29/10/2021 20:17

Not my cup of tea, but if you were to wear them to London Fashion Week you could probably make them into a hipster trend. Grin

ginforever · 29/10/2021 20:17

Lol sorry
They look perfect for a 100 years old lady leaving the Bingo at 2pm.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 29/10/2021 20:20

@Mercurial123

I had a suitcase made from that material in the late 80's.
I also had a tapestry case, matching vanity case AND a weekend bag!

More like the shoes that @Thesearmsofmine posted though.

HOWEVER ...and i am really sad that I cannot remember what I did with it....I do ( or did) have a tapestry satchel that would match the OP's slippers shoes perfectly, we just moved and I know I kept it safe for the first four or five rounds of Charity/Keep/Bin but then the reality of downsizing to a one bed without a loft hit me and rounds six and seven of the Decluttering went very badly for a lot of things I wanted to keep.

But if I find it, I'll post a pic for @LauraSaidIShouldBeNicer in case a matching bag is her Heart's Desire.

it'll be by the end of November....I am not paying for any more storage after that!

HomeSliceKnowsBest · 29/10/2021 20:20

They are very Nana, but Nanas rule!

I was about to say the same — they’re way less hideous than those fluffy sliders, which make me stare in incredulous horror at people’s feet.

Go on, OP, enjoy channelling 80s tapestry suitcase! Grin
